Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Sounds you have a nice hobby going on. Something you enjoy. That is key! Critters come back at all? (giggle)

My daughter is coming home this weekend, she lives/works in LaCrosse. We plan to go to the farmers market in Wausau and putz around the area. Hopefully it isn't a total wash out. I also have the meal worms stocked up- my daughter tends to over feed the ducks to try to get them to "cuddle" with her. She can usually catch one and cuddle it against their will. I do have Terrel in the freezer yet if she really wants to cuddle with a duck. :lau :idunno They are all molting so the yard looks like pillows blew up, they seem grumpy, very loud and look a bit rough. Sometimes I think when you live in the city for awhile you tend to forget the calm of the country. A lot of the times I find her just sitting outside enjoying the quiet and watching the ducks be ducks. Her fast paced life needs to slow down sometimes.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the nice weather. Keep those gardens growing!!!

ahhh your daughter could have drove just north to Holmen and right across festival foods a guy sits there selling sweet corn and could have taken some sweet corn north. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

We didn't grow a garden this year, so I was looking to find a decent deal on several dozen so I could freeze some. We stopped at a self-serve stand while over in MN today. At $9 per dozen, I'll just buy the name-brand frozen corn in the store for way less than that!

Im going to 8 bucks dozen next year. With all the animal damage and hassel. I figured I could go work at walmart 20 hours a week part time for 4 or 5 months and make as much selling sweet corn. No worry if its going to rain, or get 6 inches and wash out, tractor breaking down, fix the planter, work on electric fence at 730 pm after selling sweet corn, run to town get another 25 gallons of gas doing planting and tilling.

Yah 8 bucks except senoirs get 50 cents ear limited either 6 ears or 1 dozen a day. Many senoirs dont buy alot anyway. Some of them buy 2 ears with quarters. Like they digging in their piggy bank to buy it.

We bought two dozen corn on the cob that looked pretty fresh right in our grocery store today for $4 dozen. We tried it out first and it was good so cooked the rest all up and froze 6 bags. That worked out pretty well!

I just was so shocked to see $9 dozen at a farm stand. We got just as good of corn right in town for less than half that.

TOR sounds like you were having a bad day.
the place where we buy our corn is $1.OO/EAR
we buy 4 at a time because we go past there just about daily. can always stop and get fresh picked.
i went to pick up the borrowed box blade yesterday. went to her tractor and discovered it had no battery in it. she made a few phone calls and found out that her sil took it to Fleet Farm to buy a new one. it was in his truck, 30 miles away. we left the trailer there so they can load it and they will call us.
i took the tractor and 3pt drag and went back and forth on the driveway. surprisingly the granite loosened up quite ealily . probably because of all the rain we had.
my oats is coming up nicely. won't be long before i can till them under.
too bad i won't have time to plant another round
i could buy some winter wheat, but it is field run and i am afraid of too many weeds in it.

Around here it is $4-$8 a dozen. I don't freeze it and make it as we get it. Ill pay whatever...goes to local people.

Fall weather is feeling good!!! I was ALL ready to put out my fall decor yesterday but the hubs shut it down. He asked I wait till at least Sept 1. LOL! I get it.

Spent Saturday at the Edgar Steam Show. They had beautiful weather for it-FINALLY. Wandered through the flea market-found a couple goodies. Ate the yummy food and had a beer when the polka band started. I am only 49 but it was fun to watch the elderly give 'er on the dance floor. I would stayed longer but I told the hubs if Roll Out the Barrel came on he would have to polka with me...he wanted OUT fast. LOL! What a dud! Watched some giant steam tractor hook up to a thresher with a big ol belt. Was interesting.

Ducks and Geese are doing good. They are LOVING the cooler weather. It does make them wander a bit more. I can hear (not see them) in the bean fields. I am fully ready to have to look for them at some point when they get lost eventually.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and continue to the week!!

Renee
