What a great day! I had to put shorts on. Spent 4 hours in the Jeep this morning doing a quick run to Bradley to finally tarp the camper. Stopped at TSC on the way back to replentish the feed and cracked corn, and crossed off eveything on my fall list except for fixing the recoil on my ice auger. Plus many unlisted things. I get a

next to my name. I found out today that I'm not the only animal that likes beer. I was taking out the empty cans to crush them and dumping out the backwash as I walked and found a string of followers. The girls were sucking suds. Laura didn't believe me so I called her outside and dumped a little on the ground and Brownie went face down and tipped her head back several times. I said that's just great now I have to buy beer for the chickens too. Ain't happenin! Nemo your absolutley right about the hen pecked. Geez! A secretary at work whom I'm been giving eggs to "good people" asked me the other day if chickens were hard to take care of? I just started laughing! And told her to go on this site plus I HAD to relate my experiences. MMMAAAHAHA!!!

Nice day here on the hill....spent a couple hours talking with the neighbors...that's important ya know.. it's something being lost, I can see problems happening with the older generation passing away with all their passion for life and the ability to get along with neighbors.....I don't suppose anyone can relate.... it's just a love thy neighbor thing, that seems so hard, eh?

This could be the best weather for a November weekend I've ever seen. Perfect fall day. Got a lot done outside, need a half dozen more stones to finish up a rock border - I'll have to scrounge around the old barn remains across the road tomorrow.

Bigzio: I'm with you a 100%! I'm heading over to my favorite neighbors this morning to help move the steers and heifers into the barn for graining up before butchering in Feb. He can do it on his own but it goes faster with 2 people. Plus I get to meet a couple of new arrivals, a bull calf and a heifer. And my favorite of all feeder pigs. I'm glad the girls aren't allowed to use the puter to read this. Pigs are more fun to play with than chickens! There I've said it. We've done a lot for each other over the years. Anytime one of us needs help with something all we gotta do is call. Most of the time we stop in at each others place just to visit. As Frank Burns once said; It's nice to be nice to the nice.

The bad part is that since I started growing our own eggs we don't see as much of each other. He goes downtown after morning chores for coffee and to BS with others. Think after I retire I'll join him. I already have an invite. Everyone have a great one!

Anyone care to guess what the new offensive line coaches name is? The girls are really enjoyin the weather too. 10/10 for the last 4 days. Still can't believe I crossed off all of the fall list. Must have forgotten a lot of things.

This has been a glorious weekend..Lots of chores crossed off the list. Campfire, brats, friends, neighbors and beer last night. The chickens have worked over the yard with glee. Tired feels good today! Even the dogs (pups) are exhausted. I think I`m ready for work tomorrow.

Wow, I've learned about so much more than chickens reading through the length of this thread; you all sound like very nice people and it's fun to look at the date and think about how much we had in common (like being up to one's ears in apples or preparing for the first killing frost, for example). I'm in SW WI- halfway between Madison and La Crosse, and just getting into chickens. Well, into many aspects of farm living in hopes of becoming more self-sustained and maybe finding a way to keep the farm in the family for another generation!

p.s. maybe I missed the listing, but are there any people with Welsummers in my neck of the woods? Thanks!

Britt, I do not know, but what a waste of 3 hours on a gorgeous day. They better get all the issues sorted out quick before the unemployment rate increases.
