Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I got my first egg today!!! I'm so happy and excited!! Here I was down watching chicken TV when my silkie/cochin mix Murry is running around, being loud, standing by the door of the coop. I was wondering "what is her problem?" She keep going to the nesting boxes and scratching around and moving hay acting like she was going to lay. I watched hoping she would do it while I was down there. It's gets dark here by 430 now and I assumed that I would not be getting eggs this year as she just turned 6months at the beginning of the month. Well she comes over to me at the door and is yelling at me and standing there waiting for me to open it. Fine, I let her out and into the barn she goes. I follow with curiosity. Sure enough there is a perfect golden egg in the middle of the goat pen were the horses and goats have been in and out of all day!! She goes right over and sits down on it. I felt guilty taking it from her. But I picked her up and took her back to the coop and gave her some scratch as a reward for doing what she does best! I had to share with everyone, for I know that BYC'ers are the only ones that truely understand the pride you have in your first egg! Have a wonderful day everyone!

Congrats! Isn't it cool? Sounds exactly like my first egg. Brownie was sooo proud and so was I, she did the same thing, making me come and look, she's still my fav. Now you'll be out there looking all the time until you get a pattern going. Did you take a pic? I think there's a law that says you have to. Liked the chicken TV may I borrow it? Their fun to watch and play with. Think we got more than 1/10th on an inch today. Murry should start a flurry with your other girls. Be sure and tell them what good girls they are and how pretty they are. Pick them up and stick your nose in their necks and talk to them. And pet them everyday and your attentions shall be rewarded. Enjoy!

Thanks! Actually when I went to lock up I found another one! 2 in one day! It's been a good day! The other girls are only 3months old so it will be awhile until they give me eggs. I did give her kisses and told her how great she is. I have never been so happy about eggs. All my hard work is rewarded. Here is a picture of her and her egg.

Our Piggly Wiggly has a great sale going on. It was last week too! Spend $25.00 and get a turkey for $.48 a lb. The meat dept manager said it should be every week for a while. My freezer will be stocked!

We love turkey and chicken. My DH bought me a rotiserrie last year for Christmas. That's handy dandy. We also picked up a freezer from a rummage sale last year that is almost brand new. The woman was moving into a small appartment from a huge house, with her 3 kids after a divource and had 2 freezers to sell. Awesome deal. So sad about the family though.

Rain, rain, go away! I'm sick of you already!

Becky, congrats on the first eggs.... Once you see how the yolks stand straight up,and the whites don't run when you crack them into the frying pan, you'll know for sure this is all worth while.

fordmommy, I'm really glad I don't have to shovel the present moisture we are having. Sorry you are feeling down. I'll have you in my thoughts and prayers. I wish i could help someway...

Thanks everyone! Still riding one cloud nine! Everyone in the house thinks I'm crazy.

They just don't understand. Question: Where else in the state can I sell some roo's, besides here and CL? I have 7 roos and 11 girls. Not a good ratio. I want to find them good homes and hopefully forever homes. If they do get eaten hopefully I'll never know. Thanks again!

fordmommy; Loved your near rhyme. You forgot the YOU SUCK part. Rapper you ain't. I see the weather is turning colder next week, get your sled warmed up! I've looked at those rotiserries and thought about it but don't really have the room for one. I've had rotiserrie chicken and it is most excellent! Maybe I'll get one for xmas someday but I'd prefer socks and underware. We too took the pig up on the annual deal. I'm making the bird, dressing, ham, fresh rolls from scratch, cornbread, and home made pickles for the get together at my folks on T'day. My 2 sisters and their fams live in the Fox valley and now so do my parents. So it's better for me to make the main dishes and haul them instead of everyone trying to make it over here. beckyschicks; Wish I could help ya with your roo's but thankfuly your too far away. I don't want to start taking in extra chickens, that would be a bad thing. But Murry is a very pretty girl. You can tell her I said so. Like Bigzio I need more buildings. I'm thinking that right now he's polishing up his shootin iron in antisipation of the morning light glinting off a nice set of unexpecting horns. Good luck to him and all who hunt. May your aim be true!

Deer Hunting Eve to all..... DrH I like your thoughts of inspiration on this prolly sleepless night, for more than one reason.

My Dear rooster bigzio was crowing by the back door to the garage where he and the girls get their afternoon treats of boss and whole corn. I was about to go out when all the hens took off for the trees. Their was biggy flopping on the cement with his last breaths.....must have been a stroke or heart attack....he didn't suffer and never new what hit him. My daughter will be heart broken when I tell her tomorrow. He was truly her pet as well as the rest of the family.

Talk later...hope you are all having a great day!

Oh Bigzio, I'm so sorry for the loss of your guy

The only consolation is that it was very quick and he was in a favorite place when he passed.
