Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Those are some beautiful eggs! My kids love "egg hunting" on our friends' farms. I don't know how I'd feel about eating our own chickens' eggs, though I'd imagine I'd get used to it pretty quickly considering how much I spend on eggs!

THey are the BEST! Once you start eating them though, breakfast out just isnt the same. I brought 2 doz for my friend that doesnt have chickens (yet) when we met for breakfast last week and I was tempted to order eggs and ask if they would use mine to make my breakfast! (I didnt though)
Thanks for the welcome everyone...a new board and more friends to keep me from what I should really be doing...I love it! Terri O (PS) The water wasnt even frozen in the coop tonight---HEAT WAVE!

LOL! Yeah, we have a couple of sources for "farm eggs" now since my kids know the difference and won't touch "store eggs" ... they also won't eat "store meat" or drink "store milk." The other day the light bulb blew out in the kitchen so I used that as an excuse to go to Denny's for breakfast and the kids asked if they had "farm eggs" or "fake eggs" and I was trying so hard not to laugh at the wait person's reaction I could barely talk. I ended up letting the kids order lunch for dinner. Once one of our potential "egg sources" gave us store eggs instead of farm eggs and we were very disappointed. The eggs were quite old and tasted very sulphur-y and the yolks weren't nice and golden. We didn't go back to her. We're looking forward to the day when we can have a good supply of chickens so we won't have to search out sources for fresh eggs. Sigh...

Oh, yes, it almost hit 20 today in MadTown. We were quite giddy and my 3yo wanted to go out in just a sweatshirt. How little it takes to please us after a few days of single digit temps!

I too have already been contemplating what to do next spring. Sometimes I think maybe a straight run and sometimes just pullets again. I would like to get a roo and try raising some chicks but am worried about the Golden Comets not being broody enough to raise their own chicks. Then it's maybe get a couple of a diffrent breed for that. Still have a few months to figure it out. Then I distract myself with all the new seed catalogs. Sorry Nemo for the misunderstanding on my part. My bad! But hope you are a new G'pa in the fluff ball sense! Zohbug sounds like your daughter is setting her sights on ruling the roost at your house. Watch your back she may be planning your demise.

A big welcome to Terri O! Sounds like you have quite the flock there. That would be a good one to bring your own eggs to B'fast out. Gotta get movin for work. 129 129 129

DrH, ah, the child knows that I am, and will always be, the Queen and she will be the Princess. No problems there.

Have fun at work! Off to feed the crazykins and teach...

We may need to chat! We came home from our milk pick up today with no eggs.

Seems most every hen's molting or slowing down so there's nothing to spare unless I head to our farmer in Logansville.

The sun is shining today! Such a glorious thing!

I know I was thinking that myself they have been sooo good at everything. But like Queen Zohbug I worry needlessly. Maybe I'll give it a try. I'll have to do a little research for a good roo match. Every time I tally my daily count I freak out. From Sept 7 and including today 1104 eggs. The chicks came out of Sunnyside in Beaver Dam. I have nothing but praise for them and their breeding program.

Good Evening to All!

Ah, DrH...the sunnyside prices are unbeatable, local and worth a close look, eh?
I have been considering ordering from them too.

I guess the hybred chickens they offer and the heirloom breeds that are pricey elsewhere, are the decision one needs to make, depending on the agendga one has in mind.

I love the heirloom breeds.

When a friend of mine, that owns a feed mill, asks me if I only have stewing hens (cause they are 5 years old)...I said yep!

If you need to ask, then you wouldn't understand!

They will suprise, exite, amuse, deliver eggs well beyond what's expected, and show you WHY they are still around.
