Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh yes! Lets do a "Pirate White Elephant" exchange! THat's what you call it when you can steal the gifts! (and the gifts are low/no cost) Do we want to make it a Chicken themes exchange or a no limits one? Terri O

I say no real theme. That way maybe a man would want to give a small tool or a woman could give a kitchen utencile. Or whatever they would think someone else may like. Let's say $5 or less. Could even be something hanging out in your own home. What are everyone's opinions???

I also think that when it gets closer, we should do a head count on kids too. That way we could plan for prizes for them.

Okay all--the meet and greet (or whatever we decide to call it) is set for the second Saturday in June (12th) at Hartman Creek State Park. The details are still being ironed out and if you have any suggestions for activities please post or PM. I have 15 confirmed to attend members on my list so far. If you are planning on attending please send a PM to me!
If anyone would like to coordinate food, games, greeters etc please let that be known also! I thin we can have a great first Chickenstock if we all join it to help!
Thanks! Terri O

Oh boy - that's a 2 hour drive away from me (and it must be around 3 hours from you in Madison, Terri!). I want to attend so badly, but I'm going to have to check my calendar. I don't think my dogs can go that long without peeing.

I've had a couple of the grandchildren here for a few days. It's been a busy time with them!

Welcome to all the new posters. I hope you all roost for a long while, and make some new friends here!

I'm glad others are willing to help in anyway they can. It sounds like a ton of fun, and of course you can count on me!

"The First Annual Bigzio Bash" Would be quite a honor for the good 'ol boy, as well as me....I can still here him buc, buc, buc in his deep convincing voice. I really do miss him.
Dr Ha Ha that was dang thoughful of you. It's up to whatever you'all decide...
The cheeseheads are a awful nice bunch of folks!

My daughter is a machine operator where they make paper plates and napkins. I can provide all that's needed, plus some extra for folks to take home.
The white elephant gift is a great idea also!

I don't have any of the old Hamms signs either, but i did manage to acquire a shoulder patch and a bottle opener from a delivery guy back in the 70's....ah the memories....

My incubator is up and running with hatches tonight, next fri and the fri after, so what you looking for??

I'm looking for chickens with good temperments that do well with children, egg production and the cold temps. I'm starting to think I should be building an outside coop...I'm looking forward to seeing the birds and with the present setup, that won't be as easy to do.

It's great being here. BBCB

Well, old fashioned Rhode island reds would fit the bill, if you don't mind a cross I will have a maran cross, if you want blue-green eggs will have white amaurcanas

Bigzio I don't think fordmommy sleeps. At least terriO admits to it. She might go to bed at 9 oclock but I think she's up at 2. Glad you liked the idea. When I was reading your reply I actually got choked up. Must be old age setting in. Ya that's it. fordmommy that's a great idea and very generous of you to front the money. Your kinda goin out on a limb but we'll definitely pitch in more if this fizzles but it sure doesn't look that way. Thanks for all your doing! And you too terriO! Annarie First HELLO! Hope you can find a sitter for your setters and you can make it! We did a white elephant thing at our fam reunions for years it was for cash to pay for everything, chicken from the colonel and a pavillion. It was fun but it turned out we made more money bringing homemade items. Crafts, jellies, fresh vegies, breads, pies and many other things. So if we were to draw numbers for gifts, perishables like say I dunno a pie. That would work great. I'm not saying my pies are the best in the world but I've never had one go to waste. They seem to draw a lot of bidding at the reunions. And I was told as nicely as could be put that I might not be welcome back if I didn't bring them next year. I took fresh vegies last year. This year I'm really going to surprise them. I'm taking pies and egg noodles in a chicken broth in a stock pot. One of our more edlerly relatives used to do it but can't anymore. They were a big hit and very missed. So terriO when we get close you'll have to let me know the grand total of attendies including kidlets so I can plan ahead. A lot of good input coming in. It's not even Feb. and I'm all excited!

Things to do, first the coop then clean the wood stove one more time. It's come down to wet wood. I'll have to sort through it for burnable. My good neighbor Donny made wood for me after I fell off the roof last Feb. and some is pretty wet. Have a good one!

i realy don't know they will be one of the breeds that i will be hatching all the eggs I get, but any extra I have will be offered on the 'cheesehead' thread before anywhere else. the best hen I have of the MFC was stressed a month ago becouse my son accudently left the chick shed door open in the heated building, when it was below 0, all her chicks froze to death and she hasn't started to relay yet.
