Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Sorry to hear that bigzio, our condolences to your family.

Well we are 24 hours into incuabtion of Terry O's 18 eggs in the homemade incuabtor and 6 days for Blue sitting on the nest of 11. Changed out the thermostat to the wafer and so far it is holding temp pretty close to 99.5* varies about 1/2* either direction. My kids are keeping a eye on the incubator once again and we're keeping our fingers crossed that we hatch out some for Terry O. My DH asked what we were going to do with all of the chicks and I promised that we were just "fostering" them and they would be returned once hatched-of course Blue might need to have a couple left behind to raise;)

Our 7 foster pups and their mom have been given the all clear by our vet so they can start going to their forever homes!! So far mom and 3 pups have forever homes! We have 2 boys and 2 girls that the rescue is working on getting adopted out! Once they are gone we are taking a break for a while..... have to work with all the chicks that we have currently or that are coming, including 8 day old turkeys, 4 bantam brown leghorns and 3 cuckoo Marans in March.

Sorry Bigz! even when you know it's coming it's not easy. Boy Tyler that's a tough one. It wouldn't be prudent to give any advice on that. BUT from what I've seen on here you are a smart, ambitious young man who has a bright future ahead him. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith but my advice is before you jump take a look at the bottom because your wings may fold. Confidence is the biggest attribute you can have but don't let it blind you. Don't let Mr. Ego take over or else the bottom will find you. Good Luck! Choose carefully grasshopper. I think you will. I've been through a lot, financially and otherwise and I'm still here. It's all about happiness. Everyone is hatching eggs! WAAAA!!!!! I should have the tractor plow parts done about the time the snow is gone. But will be able to use it to push blocks of wood into a pile for splitting. And maybe the bush over there. Oh and clear a road out back. Maybe the nieghbors need something done.....

Good Evening....
Thanks for all the kind words and gestures. You guys are the best!

It was a nice funeral, because she was never bitter about being sick, and never complained.
Everyone that knew her...loved her....any kindness directed toward her way was never taken for granted. May she rest in peace now.

Tyler, good luck with your decision. Maybe you can obtain quality daycare at a more reasonable cost? I know the education is priceless, and would be there to fall back on if the buisness should fail. It's best to go with your heart. Make the decision yours, and don't look back with any regrets.
I never have to look over my shoulder for anything. I wouldn't have it any other way!

DrH, My tractor is in the shed waiting for attention. I need to replace the front wheel bearings in the right front wheel. I have the parts. I just have to take the time to get er done. While I've never done it. Folks are telling me it's not to bad to replace them. I'd like to skid some firewood out while we still have snow. Sure is nice when it's working, though.

Better day tommorrow, I just know it. Have Fun....

Buck Creek Chickens, here's a couple pics of Honey. What did you think she was? And do you still think that's what she was? She laid almost pure white eggs and had the white ear lobes. I still miss her.

The first pic was the day I got her.

Well so far so good for Henny that has been returned to the coop!

Nobody picked on her when I brought her in yesterday morning, of course they were fighting over the scratch I had just thrown down as a distraction! She was standing under the lightbulb a bit today...poor thing; must be cold to go from the house to the coop! There is no increased swelling and her Twist- Tie legband stayed on so far...BCC is sending me a "real" one to put on her so I can tell her apart from the others molre easily. (THANKS!)
Tyler, you need to remember if you have a bunch of loans from school they come due and payable 6 months after you are out. At least that is how my daughter's are and she is having a heck on a time even living here for free! (please deliver me!) Do what you feel right as was suggested above. If one thing has to give to keep you sane, then give up the thing that makes you feel like "I just dont wanna...." THen you will have a load off of your shoulders! HTH!

Bigz it's very easy to do. Jack up one side at a time just enough to clear the ground. Support the axle well so that it doesn't fall while working. Pop off the grease cap with a screw driver, it's a light press fit and it's thin metal so don't get too carried away. Slip jaw pliers also work. Remove the cotter pin and take the castle nut off. Pull the tire, washer, outer bearing and hub off. Remove the inner bearing. Clean everything well pack the new inner bearing with fresh grease and put the hub/ tire back on fill the cavity with grease pack the outer bearing replace the washer and nut. Tighten the nut with slip jaw pliers then back it off to the next availible hole for the cotter pin. You don't want it too tight nor too loose it's a low speed application. If you find that the spindles are worn and the bearing fit is sloppy the spindles should be replaced. The bearings should just slide on the spindle. But that can be expensive. I've seen people use them in pretty bad shape by putting bearing buddies on them and and just keep pumping grease in there often. Piece of cake! To my horror I discovered that today is 80 days left to go. I thought it was 79

Back to the world in 80 days!

DrH--you sound very knowledgeable mechanically! I remember doing that very thing on my '72 Gran Torino back at MATC! Thanks for the greasy memory! If you ever need anything to do....our skid loader needs new bearings and a new hydraulic line--leaks like a sieve! (maybe in 80 days???) LOL!
OK I have been sitting on here WAY too long!!! I MUST get something done in this house....I hate that I work harder here than at work...Thursday is always hard because I am so darn tired! Terri O

Hello all! Light dusting my foot. The weathermen don't have a clue. We have 2 inches on the ground already and it's suppose to continue until 3. Anyone else getting the white stuff today?
So yesterday my 7 year old went into the coop to collect eggs for me and my oldest roo attacked her. He doesn't have spurs and she was all dressed for winter so she wasn't hurt but really mad. He's her favorite. So I went down there with her and told her that I wanted her to go in there without me to see what he would do. Well he flew at her again. I went in there and pushed him to the ground and held he there, then made her hold him there for a couple of minutes. I told her that, that means that she is telling him she's the boss. Then we stepped out and I told her to go in there again and see what he does and if he flys at her again to do what I showed her. Well he flew at her again and my tough little girl grabbed that roo and slammed him to the ground and held him there. Then she picked him up and started to yell at him. I don't know who was more suprised me or him. He left her alone the rest of the time we were down there. I was very proud of her. I'm also really disappointed that he did go after her though, I was hoping that he wouldn't show aggresion as he is such a pretty roo. I just don't want him to go after my 3 year. If he does it again I might have to get rid of him.

Well have a good day everyone.
