Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

FM, the DNR has the classes listed on their web site, but if you go to the link to the fairgrounds I posted earlier you can get the contact info there.

I did not know your kids were old enough, I thought they had to be 12 or almost 12 to take the course.

UGH--back from work and I am tired! I am having a cup of coffee right now and then I have to go out and water the critters. Let the chickens out when I got home and put all the dogs out too so I can have a bit ov peace in the house! THe kids cleaned up the dishes and stuff from their dinner and campfire last night so at least I didnt have to look at that mess when I got home. I have enough to do with cleaning in this house today...

Tonight I am making a beef roast with mashed potatoes and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. It is my favorite dinner. I need to make chili this week too...the kids didnt eat all the beans I made last night to go with the brats. Gotta get 'em used up so they dont end up going bed. I hate wasting food! (that's why I got chickens!)

Well, coffee's gone so I guess I better get outside! Have a great day! TErri O

(PS) Congrats on the win Cedar Post. My DH used to coach our 4H BBall team. The only problem we got into later was the most of the kids played on teams at school and with the WIAA rules they werent allowed to play in 4H too. I thought that was a dumb rule!

Wow, what a nice day today

well today was cleaning out the baby chick and turkey cages as well as moving into bigger areas. Blue and Mort joined the outside hens in the outside coop and after a bit of mild flying at each other everyone seems to have adjusted just fine! The older chicks took over the pen that Blue and Mort had and the turlys moved into the crate the older chicks were in

Quick question for those of you that use your chicken bedding on your garden-how long does it have to be composted for once your take it from your coop? I have to clean out the outside coop and was wondering if I can just spread it over the garden area or if it needs to sit on a pile and heat up and breakdown further.

Hey Terri, would you consider adopting me? It sounds like you are always whipping up some great grub!

Beautiful, sunny day here, too bad I've got to get back to work.

Outside of medicated chick feed, what else should I be doing for the chicks to make sure they're a-ok?

For our chicks we make sure that their water is always clean, that they are warm enough, have plenty of food to eat and that they have no pasty butts(for that we clean with a warm paper towel). How the chicks are acting is a pretty good indicator of how they are doing.

if you keep a clean brooder you do not need to use medicated feed, I haven't used med. feed for more than 4-5 years. what the chick get that the med.feed help but doesn't fully prevent is cocci and that come for the babies eating to much poop

I'm going to start trapping raccoons tonight, last night right ater dark I saw three meandering near my storage shed adjacent to the house...right where I'm going to be putting the coop. These are some bigguns, and they've been around for a few months now. So I borrowed a trap from the farm across the road and I'll be taking them over to my pond for swimming lessons when I catch them.

I think the GLW that I got last week is a roo...just a feeling. If it is, does someone want a young GLW roo? He's a good looking bird, supposed to be SQ. I just don't think I can keep a roo around with the subdivision right to the west of me.
