Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Dr Ha Ha, I posted that ad on Craigslist a few days ago for some SLW and a few other breeds. Don't know why you didn't get those.?.?.?.?.

Well- that leaves me with some free time. I think I just might head to the Wolf River and try some fishing. My parents only live about 5 miles or so from there. Maybe we'll be eating fresh fish tonight! Won't DH be surpriced!

My thoughts exactly! The problem is that Mom is smarter than me, usually. She hasn't caught the chicken bug yet, but the girls sure have. They'd LOVE another dozen birds. I mean SLWs and this guy swears he's got Ameraucauanas, not just EErs....so I'm going to stroll up there later today with a box just to have a gander....

So this new coop is big...25 X 40, and I can make a huge run with it, so wouldn't just 12 birds feel AWFULLY lonely in there without more company????

The floor is all concrete, so I've got to put straw down, which I can get without any problems around here. I let the farmer across the street put his soybeans in my older barn in the winter, and he'll give me all the straw I need. Is this a good ground cover for the coop with pine shavings for the nesting boxes?

Fordmommy, you sound like the ultimate wife: chicken keeper, fisherwoman, the whole nine yards!

Happy fishing, what a great day for it...

Oh man...I sure wish I was goin' fishin'! I did have 2 clients cancel today so I was home by 9:30

I went out to do chores and GUESS WHAT??? I have 6 new peeps! I thought those eggs had gotten chilled and I kept tossing the liquidy ones but there she was in the bottom box with 5 chicks! I found a little black one and a dead one in the box above and added the black one. I felt so bad for the other...so cute , a little chipmunk! SO she has 2 red/golden, 2 black (1 big and 1 little), a yellow and a lilac! I spent 2 hours out there this morning setting her up...then watching "chick TV" every time I went into the coop! Day 21 was Monday and I was so sure they were no good...I must be learning my lesson of patience though--I LEFT THEM ALONE this time! Yeah Me!

So the house Roos and the tortoise are out in the garden enjoying the weather...I do believe that I will go and do the same! TErri O

(PS) Fordmommy...you neet to get some Guineas. They do an awesome job with ticks!

BBCB...remember I will have SLW soon and I also am grouping Ameracaunas for chicks too...

OK! Here they are!

Click on the pic and it will get bigger--I tried it this time!
They are just the cutest little fuzzy butts! I tried the sexing by the wings thing and I think all are girls except for one of the black ones...we will just have to see how accurate I am on my first try! I need that girl to come over and SHOW me in PERSON. Then maybe I will get it! 5:1 ratio wouldnt be bad though....

Went to Menard's and got a temp. fix for the washing machine problem. DH says a pipe must be collapsed for the drain because he couldnt get the power auger through. the solution: Dig up the backyard of course! Do we know where the pipe is? Of course NOT!!!! NEws FLash: we have a graduation party here at the end of May--we will not be digging up anything at this time! My daughter is thanking me. Good grief we have enough to do without digging random holes too...
I also picked up some PVC and the fittings to make a nipple waterer. I had ordered the nipples and drip cups from Kullas a while ago...the one in the pitcher is NOT working...too drippy, so the chicks will go back to the fount. They will be going outside soon anyhow. I am going to make an 8' nipple waterer for outside. I got a toilet fill valve for a 5 gal bucket and I will hook that onto a garden hose. Will be interesting! I will deep you updated!
Well, I need to go and watch more chick TV--oh yeah...I have another pip in the other nest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wee.gif
:weee I am so excited! I for sure thought that nest was a goner...the eggs have been cold to the touch several times--who knows, maybe I will just get the one. This is WAY more nerve wracking than the incubator...you really have NO CONTROL over anything! Terri O--who is going to have chickens (never mind)

Evening to all...what a nice day here on the hill today. Moved some more trees, screwed my back and called the working part of the day done.

Terri O check out the porta potty guys for a price. Alot of folks do that here....or what works for the guys, is to hang a wire between two trees with a tarp creating a wall for the privacy needed just for, I 'll be back in a second....gotta take a whiz....

fordmommy I got the second one but not the first? I was talking to a truck driver that comes into the shop regularly and he has chickens . A LOT of chickens! I told him of my search and he said he has 20 SLW chicks 3 weeks old along with assorted other breeds for around a hundred total. Lives less than five miles from here. Freaked me out! Might be able to talk him out of a half doz. If I get them I'd get a roo from somewhere else and breed them. Also found out that the feed mill in Rudolph sells Layer feed for $9.50/100. Way cheaper than TSC. Future fixed income people have to think of these things.

BBCB I don't mind when people are smarter than me because it doesn't take much, it's the logic thing I hate. Bigz know the feeling! 16 days and it's killin me to get things movin around here. Tiller and good junk is home. TO nice lookin chicks, their purty! Hope your evening is filled with relaxation!

Whoo hoo! I have my closet up and drywall finished!!!
celebrate.gif
Went to Home Depot and picked up the door, so now we need to get the shelf, pole, and door on and paint it! While the closet was being constructed, I was busy hanging paintable wallpaper in the kitchen for my backsplash. What a mess, but totally worth it! One more step in completing the renovations to sell this joint!

In the next 2 weeks I hope to finish the floor in the extra room and then tackle the downstairs bath..... everything has been ordered already so we really have to move (good incentive to get things finished). I can't wait to take a nice long soak in my new tub!!!!

I've been in Hayward the last two days and couldn't believe my eyes!! No ice on any lakes!! We were getting bear baits ready for fall had a great time. Did see someone fishing on a lake out of a boat. Wow in March... man is it warm. We seen one deer and a group of wolves counted 12 but could of been more. I guess it was the Ghost lake pack one is a jet black. Second black wolf I have seen over the last few years. Don't know how common black is in wolves? Got home to a mess the kids were going to take care of the chicks aand they droped the water can in the brooder so they were a little moist to say the least.

Big badcrybaby check your pm box please my daughters boyfriend comes home on Thurs. around 1:00. If you want the little guy gone he can pick him up. Mike

Hey Cedar Post, check your pms. I'm going to hold onto him for another couple of weeks, I'm still not absolutely sure that it's a he. After seeing some SLWs tonight it really made me scratch my head. So if you can hang in there, it'd be much appreciated.

Speaking of SLW.....hmmm. I went over to Fredonia tonight with my daughter and a box. Came home with five SLW, and five EEs. The guy said they were Americaunas, but they were EEs. First time this guy has dealt with chickens, I think. He's got 75 roo chicks (they look like RIR) that he has no idea what to do with. When we got to his place, he wasn't around, so his fiance was there and let us into this little room in a barn that looked like it was wall-to-wall chicks, all about 2 weeks old. I'm too old chasing chicks around in this room, thank heavens I brought my little one to help me out. I almost squashed a couple.

So we got home and Mom is not pleased. She okayed "a couple"...but the guy was giving me 10 for $2 a crack, so what's a guy supposed to do? She's been glaring at me throughout the night, I can feel laser holes being bored into the back of my head. Oh well. Can't a guy just be a guy???? Ha! I love Mom and she puts up with me, so I guess I'm using up some serious brownie points I've earned since we moved in this old farmhouse.

I baited the raccoon traps tonight. Hopefully swimming lessons at the pond will be commencing in the morning.

I set up another brooder and all is well, and I'm starting work on my barn coop in the morning...I've got to get the place cleaned and set up so I can get these chicks out of the house in the next few weeks, or I'll be sleeping in the barn. I'm jacked about all the space I have now, and it's very doable.
