Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

thanks BCC. I know you'd probably know. Well that makes me feel better. Even though that has to hurt her. She is a very sweet girl and will call to me when I'm down there. She is one of my favorites so I guess I was extra worried. Thanks again. Well we candled her eggs last night and 6 out of the 7 have something.

I'm looking forward to this. It's day 11 today, hopefully the next 10 will go smoothly. Have a great rainy day everyone!

Good morning everyone...it is my 2nd morning today! I went to work at 6 and got home at 8:30 and went back to bed...such a nice day for a nap! Well, I got up and now am on my second cuppa, preparing to shovel out my house a bit. (thank God for the rain or I would be out playing in the garden again today!) I turned the furnace off yesterday and it is pretty chilly in here...too bad all the wood is wet!
Yesterday afternoon I had a bit of an altercation with my neighbor. He had a "friend" come and survey the land and says that the trees that were here when we moved in (21 years ago) are on his property and because he wants to plant corn in that field he is going to cut them down. The last time this cam up his brother said that since we were over on that side and he is over up on the pasture side he figured it is pretty even. DH says that I should tell them we will buy them a bushel of corn to take the place of the 2 rows he will miss due to the trees. Of course he is out of town all week so he doesnt have to talk to them! Good thing it is raining today---the trees will have another day...
I better get moving before I lose all my gumption to clean...if the house wasnt so bad I would let it go and go and watch the chickens! Terri O

WHew! I am exhausted! Got 4 rooms done...well, I havent finished the last counter in the kitchen and I have to mop floors yet...but that's pretty good I think! Thank Goodness there are leftovers in the fridge so I dont have to cook! I might make an Angel food cake or a pound cake though...I have some fresh strawberries that I want to have...

Becky--I have a hen that does that bedding thing all the time! She is so funny...comes out of the nest box and travels the whole floor of the coop picking up pieces of hay and stuff and putting them over her back. I was noticing it the other day and wished I had a video camera. It was very comical. She is not even broody so it must just be another of their queer behaviors. Amusing anyhow!

I can barely open the kennel cage that holds my chicks ...they eat so much and are always "starving" when they see me. I wish I didnt have to open such a big door; they pile out and I am so afraid that I will step on them! Sure wish it was a tad bit warmer...they would so be out in the coop! Speaking of that...I need to make another one. NOt sure where I am going to find the $$ or the time but it needs to happen. I think the foundation in my present coop is seriously undermined. I am afraid to clean out too much because the floor is so uneven and there might be big holes underneath! Guess I better start taking the truck to work on heavy pick up days hey?

Might see something useful that I can scrounge.
Have a great night everyone...Terri O

Evening All.... It's about time someone starts a coop building buisness. They could put me on the top of the list. I might talk to the neighbors and see if I can get some help. Suzie laughs at me when I tell her I know how

can't imagine why she would think it's funny?

Poured rain here today, and the hens went under the Spruce trees til it let up. They were smart enough to head back in the covered pen. I closed them up for the balance of the afternoon then.
We sure needed the moisture though.

Things really greened up today.

Have Fun... ~ bigzio

I'm working on it, Bigz. The guy who's helping me put together my coop I've been hounding about getting a little side business together. I've got great plans I bought for small, medium and large coops with runs. I'm working him hard, he's got great finishing skills and I can do the general cutting and whatnot. Who knows? Anything "green" nowadays is a super idea, and so many muncipalities down here are revisiting their poultry ordinances because of small, grass roots movements for micro-flocks.

Dang I'm tired! Started working on my coop this morning at 7:30 and finished up at 6 tonight. Nestboxes are done (they need to be painted but they rock!), the coop has been secured, the new chicken door is pretty close to being finished. I just need to get my roosts up, clean everything out, hang my new waterer and feeders, put down straw, and I'm cooking with gas.

The room is so large I am going to be splitting it up, so we started to frame out a small area for materials AND for integrating birds into the flock, separating birds, and whatnot. Pretty cool. Once we finish framing then it's just getting the chickenwire up. Blam.

I hope everyone is well, we've got thunderboomers moving into the area. Becky I see Iron Ridge is in the way of a good storm, I hope everyone and everything is tucked away tight. God Bless.

Early morning all! I dumped 8/10ths out when I got home. Nice rain. Been busy too. Trying organize stuff for the first trip north this weekend taking back all the things we bring back before the winter shut down. It'll be nice to see the place again. Know there will be snow up there yet, always is at this time. Hope to put a few meals of perch in the freezer. I cleaned up one of the 3 gal feeders I scored and replaced the 4 foot tray feeder with it and took out the water heater and pan and put the 3 gal waterer back in. It was weird not hauling water every morning. BBCB it sounds like your well on your way to having a nice set up. Agree that once you get your chicks moved out of the house mom will be happier. Bigz you must be having thoughts of opening day of your long beard season. Many scenerios playing over and over in your head. You know it'll all be different when the sky starts to lighten. Cool lookin roo H&R! Peaches tail feathers are really coming in nicely. Becoming quite the handsome young man. Retirement papers are in an envelope on the table. Will get them mailed today. Hard to think that I have only 8 more working days. Doubt that the eighth will be a full one. My supervisor saw a co-worker going through my tool box yesterday he did a second take but still don't think he has a clue as to whats about to happen. He is and will always be clueless. No attention for details that's why he's a lousy machinist. Gee one less thing to gripe about soon. I like the idea! Have a great day!

Good morning! I have a baby goat!!! I have been wondering if they were even bred...I usually have many more by this time. It is a little girl, just a single and a first time Mom--Man they are dumb int he beginning! I finally decided tot ie her in the shed like my neighbor does. Makes me nervous 'cause they might get wrapped up in the rope, but it is better than her leading the baby out in the rain all the time. I gave it a rinse when I got home from work. SIlly girl was out in the rain and it just poured! I was thinking of her as I drove home. Got her all dry and got her suckling now they just need to sort it out for themselves. I am betting on more by the end of the week. I just wish that one of the older ones had gone first!

Brought my tortoise back inside today--he has not been going out of his house since it got cold again...we will try it again next week. The door to his house warped too so it is hard to open and close. Guess I need to take it back to Dad!

I am going to make a big pot of soup for tonight. It seems to be a good day for it. I heard that there will be snow mixed with our rain for a few days this week. Figured we would have at least a little more! As long as my pear and apple blossoms dont freeze this year! 70s next week! Whoo Hoo!

Mail is here...guess I will get that and check on the ropes in the shed...praying for no tangles. Ya think I would just build some pens...Have fun up North DrH--I remember when you started your count down and it was near 100 days, man that went fast! (well, for the rest of us!) It will still be a bittersweet day on your last...but the possibilities!
Congrats on finishing your coop BBCB! Now you and your buddy need to take a trip down here and make me one! Those chicks are getting big!

Oh yea--does anyone know who it is that sells the hen aprons on BYC? I think i need to get a few! Thanks--Terri O

Sounds like you're in need of one! How big do you want it???

You're like St. Francis with all the animals...I mean, for gosh sakes, a tortoise?

And Dr H...the countdown is going quickly. By the time you get back from up north John Prine should be waiting for you...I've been listening as I've been burning CDs...makes me feel like the Biggest Baby in the World.

Well, raining hard this afternoon and tonight, snow???

Bummer. But only an inch they're saying now. Then 60s by the weekend if I'm reading the weather reports right. If so, and I've got the roosts done, the chickies will be in their new crib...at least half of them.

Congrats TO on the new kid on the block! BBCB that sounds great on the JP! Your right l'd do the same for you or anyone that wanted him. It's just too good not to share! Yes the time has gone fast looking back on it. But looking forward is like waiting to be old enough to get your drivers license. I'm in a moral dilema. My plan was to not tell them till the day before my last day. That's all they really deserve actually not even that. But have been thinking of telling them next Monday giving them a week to get someone else hired. The supervisor is always threatening that he has 15 guys that want to come in there. When they were hiring about that many turned them down when they saw the conditions and found out the pay rate. About $5-$6/hour below scale. But their in charge and know what their doing.

Tomorrow should have everything together to be able to come home and throw it in the Jeep and go on Friday. Goin away to the last resort in a week or two real soon.

Man--it is NASTY out there! Just got back--my 94 YO man couldnt find his eye drops so I had to drive 18 miles to find them for him. (and they were right where I told him they were!) I hate to complain because he is an old guy and deserves better, but c'mon...I am back there tomorrow at 7AM! I keep telling myself that there will be someone to find mu stuff for me when I get that old...well, I hope there will be anyway! So now I am thoroughly chilled and I had to turn my heat back on! My stew smells great and I just wish all of you werent so far away cause you all could come to supper! The pot I made could seriously feed 15! Man, I have to learn to scale down my cooking! I will have stew for this week and then some...
Anybody have any ideas for chicks that are shrink wrapped in the membrane? I have my third now and they are under hens! I thought that only happened in the incubator when the humidity was too low? I helped one out and he is fine but there was one dead and another is pipped now and I am not sure what to do.
Well, I think I am going to chill out with a glass of wine before dinner...good night all! Stay dry! Terri O
