Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Bigz I love to catch white bass on the Wisconsin River, during the late spring and early summer when they are in a feeding frenzy in the late afternoon and will hit anything tossed in the water. Eating, not so much. I'm with you, Dr H, I've never eaten one that was firm, except for a few smallies caught up on the east fork of the chip in the spring.

We are getting things together for the garden, which is small at 12 X 14, but we need to start with something we can manage...we have the space for a huge garden, but time is the issue...isn't that always the issue, after $$$?

Things are stable now that the pecking order is loosely established in the coop. I work a part time job on the weekends so I don't really catch up with them until early in the week, just go out there every day to make sure everyone has food and drink and are behaving themselves...and as long as I keep the troublemakers seperated, it's all good.

Another lovely day, I hope all of you are enjoying!

I always thought it was frogs too, until yesterday. Definitely toads, brown ones, green ones, tan ones. I do hear a couple spring peepers, they sound totally different, a peep-peep-peep vs. a monotonous trill of the toads. It's all great to listen to falling asleep at night

We will have a frog-filled pond later in the year and the toads will move to the garden and woods. It was fun to watch the toads, some where actually swimming across the pond (about 30 feet), I've never seen toads swim like that! Must be the hormones

DrH, I buy the packets of instant yeast, and keep them in the pantry. If there is extra left in the packet, I put it in the fridge. Seems to be lots of little tricks to figure out. Like my mom says, breadmaking is an art (and I'm no artist!)

BL4, good luck on the remaining eggs

Maybe in a year or two I'll join the bator club...

Boy everyone was busy this am-had to read back 2 -pages!
welcome-byc.gif
to the new chicks who joined the postings!

Well we ended up with 4 new chicks -2 BW/W Ameraucanas and 2 Welsummers- they now are in the brooder and the incubator is cleaned and readjusting so we can hatch out the 18 Andalusian eggs for our DD's 4-H project
fl.gif
hopefully we will have better luck with them-it would seem that her splash rooster is starting to go down hill-was fine yesterday and now today seems to be down on it's hocks
hit.gif
and to make matters worse her campine pullet must have flown into the pen panel hard enough and broke her neck Friday afternoon..... atleast our DD is willing to keep trying. From what we can figure out is genetic suseptiblity, hopfully the 2 nice blue hens make it

Our foster pup left today for her forever home in NJ, got up at 4 am to get her to the trucker giving her a ride out and she should be out there this evening.

we are now taking a break for probably the summer.

We can hear the frog and toads at night coming from the creek that runs our property-sounds cool!

BL4 congrats to your daughter and hope she likes the school-makes a big difference for the kids.

BL4 and BCC good luck with the duck eggs!

Dr H -the bread sounds wonderful-just never seem to have the time to try it, my sister-in-law will make home made rolls and they are excellant!

Cleaned out the chicken coop last night and spread it on our garden to be tilled under-we're waiting for my brother to bring the load of rabbit poop he got from a friend so that can go on too! After reading about all the different sized gardens everyone has we measured ours and figured out that we have a 75' x 50' area that we have planted for the last 3 years. We like to pickle pickles and beets and freeze the veggies too-it's alot of work but well worth it!

Noticed that the incubator has to be adjsuted a bit and then probably have to go unload the trailer of poop

enjoy the nice day!

Gonna have to look it up but always thought spring peepers were tree frogs. H&R sorry to hear about the bad eggs and the bad luck, glad to hear your DD understands that things happen. Yes it's another time thing for the bread. Amy thanks for the tips and I used to swim that far too until I got fixed. All better now. Next bread making day will be a run of white bread and rolls. BBCB just got out of the garden, had enough for today. I'll be seeing roots in my sleep. Have to put a tape on it but think it's now 20x 35. Just about doubled. Your right time is the issue. Think I joined the red neck club today. Went to get a beer just now and L says my elbows are red. Time bent over sittin on a pail. I loved every minute! L came out to visit and I said hey those aren't weeding slippers! She said we have an agreement the garden is yours to do and walked away. Then she said Joe, I looked she was out of view from the road and flashed me. I said ok it's a deal. I'm still easy. It's really nice not to have to swim so far anymore.

Deer Creek glad to hear you found your stuff bet your flock will be a lot happier! Gonna Q some pork ribs a little later and some steamed green beans from the garden. Nummy!

DrH, you're a hoot. Sounds like your lady knows how to get her way, lol. Never guess what I found on my rhubarb today, a tree frog! At least what I always assumed were tree frogs (not sure if peepers are different). The rhubarb patch sits in the middle of the yard, no trees anywhere close

He was about the size of a half-dollar, almost matching the leaves. Took more pics. Must be the year of the amphibians.

H&R, love to hear good adoption stories!! All our critters are rescues, it warms my heart. That's a lucky pup.

Getting to be go-time for the gardens, happy planting everyone!

Bigz just sayin I don't know how to cook it that's all. That's great that your great and the new babies are great and Suzie is Suzie, I think. Gonna be warm in bed tonight, in spots. Like tops of my ears, my elbows and worst of all my knees especially the right one. Your never too old to be stupid. Decided to give the other seeds a little more time for the soil to warm. Should be warmer tomorrow. Drag racing, beer and grillin comin up.
