Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Doncha just LOVE summer?! Everyone is so busy outside...I am so glad I found you guys; my current friends are complaining about the heat, the sun, the bugs etc etc etc...I just want to be outside! Went to visit my parents yesterday--they are doing OK--we sat in the back yard under the maple trees...sooooo nice! What a great way to spend time! I must confess though, that I kept thinking of all the "work" I have to do here!

I have a great solution for the lawn thing...SHEEP! They do such a nice job of keeping the grass down and even do the trimming! I highly recommend cutting down lawn space and either getting something to graze it or letting it go wild! A prairie? There are great alternatives...who actually uses 4 acres of lawn anyhow? Mt brother just bought a new place in Muskego and he says he is "reclaiming the lawn." I told him he was nuts...."but that grass is waist high!" SO WHAT! I think he was just excited to get a new lawn tractor....MEN!

So sorry about your hen KAQ! Probably a raccoon...she would have come back in the night to eat the eggs. They are feeding babies right now and are HUNGRY! A few years back I got a huge female in a trap that ripped a goose open head to tail just before her nest was to hatch then came back the next night for the eggs (but I got her instead) I love all animals but they need to stay in the woods and out of my barn! I have some nice and cuddly rabbits for your kids....

Kinda going on the same premise as Annarie---hoping someone will fall in love with them! (I want runners again now!)

BBCB--you MUST come to the bash! We need to have a quota of men there so they can talk amongst themselves! DrH and Bigz will be so disappointed if you dont show....and so will a few others!
fl.gif
Here's to you getting there!

On my second cuppa now...starting to be able to move...I think I may bring shredded turkey for sandwiches too...have to see if I have time to do it--we are having another meeting for my 4H club to finish stall decos for the fair. With so much going on it will be here before I know it! I am kind of glad that my daughter will be out of it in a year...I am hoping that I will be able to turn over the reins of the club...hard to do after so many years of being the leader!

OK--off to look at what my Mom sent (and put most in the car for St Vinnies) Talk to you all tomorrow! Gas up the trucks and get to the bash! Dont forget your white elephants!!! Terri O

Hi All! I'm new here! I heard there is going to be some sort of shindig this Saturday. Can someone tell me the details? I've got nothing going on this weekend, so I'd like to stop by!

Dirty Blonde! I just sent you a PM on the Meet-n-Greet. Hope you can come.

I woke up to 2 new babies this morning.

I had the 2 pips last night and one quail egg pip. So I was kinda expecting it. I got a few more pips too. Babies are due Friday. So I hope everyone hatches early. Would be nice. Then I don't have to worry about them while we're camping.

Well-gotta start cooking and baking. And packing up the camper. I'll check in later!

I have another batch of Runner ducklings going into lock-down this weekend! I'm trying to fill an order for a really nice girl in 4-H who lost part of her Runner flock over the winter and is trying to build it back up - she wants two trios, so she's getting a trio that hatched this week, and hopefully I'll get another trio next week for her - she bought some ducklings at a swap earlier this year and ended up with 7 males and only 1 female, so I want to get some girls for her!

Went and picked up some straw for duck bedding today from a really nice old gentleman out in Wonewoc. He has a gorgeous place out on the bluffs and is growing everything organically - he wants me to try some of his grains later this fall for my chickens. A really, really nice person, and I'm so relieved to have finally found a good source of straw nearby - I've been looking for awhile, I finally ran out of my winter's supply last week, and the duck pens were starting to get pretty scary!

So...I guess I'm off to clean duck pens!

EDIT - I just saw this on Craigslist and wanted to share it with you guys - a Hova-Bator Incubator and auto-turner for $70! http://madison.craigslist.org/grd/1784798771.html

If
I didn't love my Brinsea incubators so much and have 5 Bantam Cochin pullets growing up to be broody gals for me next year, I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat!

Goodly Aft. to everyone! Annarie sounds like you found a new friend and a good one at that. Wonewoc is getting close to my favorite country. If you want to see what it's all about I recomend sitting on a steel covered porch with your feet up on the rail watching and listening to the rain come up the valley while watching the ducks and geese on the pond and all the rest of the animals waiting for a bath. Rain came down on tin roof... JP. Ah favorite memories! fm congrats on the new babies! And a Big THANKS again for all the work that you BL4, and TO have put into making Sat. possible and to anyone else who has helped out!!!!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!! Dirty Blonde boy you found us at just the right time.

It would be perfect if you and your fam would join us at the Bash! It's amazing how many people have since I got on here. A lot of good people! And if you show up you'll get to meet a lot of the sicko's. Went and got straw this AM along with some other things. Decided to make my mater cages after looking at the maters instead of weeding. Need to make one more the rain curtailed that project. Making pies in the AM then will make the beef bean bake on Sat. AM. Need to do the dishes as long as it's raining. Talk of possible hail with the storms moving in sure hope not.

We have had one cancellation (chickengramma) for the weekend. I Am NOT scared of a little rain. Well, I am not saying that is why she canceled but....we WILL have a great time even if it is cold and miserable. My DH has already called and said, "looks like a craptacular weekend..." I said "TOO BAD--I AM GOING!" He said, "OK, OK!" So I dont know if he will be along--but I will be there!

Thanks for that listing Annarie--I emailed them. I have lost too much this year already because of broodies giving up! I think I should have a 'bator, well, just because!

Never know if I will need it for PARROT eggs next year!

Speaking of eggs...I candles my first pigeon eggs and they were clear. I figured that because it has already been 2 weeks and that is as long as they take to hatch. This is their first clutch so I wasnt very disappointed...They better figure out what it is they need to do though...

We are leaving for the campground tomorrow after I get done working about noon or so. That is IF DH gets the camper out of the barn and ready to go. If not, I jump in my truck (that is already packed) and off I go!

I only have to get the food out of the freezer and I am ready!

OK--off to make some dinner...see you all REALLY SOON!
