Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Dr H - Yep, Calls were bred as decoy ducks. The small size allowed the hunters to put them right in their pockets instead of lugging cages through the marshes when they were duck hunting (yes, I'm serious!).

Domes Farm - Hi!

I'm not very familiar with Brahmas, but if they're show-quality, I expect they're fluffy, right? I know that Cochin breeders have a lot of problems because the show-quality Cochins are too darned fluffy to get the job done. Maybe a butt trim would help? Just an inch or so around the vents of the birds?

I don't even know if that's an issue with Brahmas - just a thought!

Hello to all that are new!

Well the concert was a bust. They are much better on the radio then in person. Could hardly understand the singer. Oh well you live and learn. Were up in Fondy today at the Fondy park. Did go-karts and mini-golf. Had a great time. My youngest loved the go-karts. Faster! she kept yelling. But I already had it to the floor. I'll have to look out for her as she gets older, no fear. Going up to Rhinelander for the 4th. My parents have a place up there. It's alot of fun. We basically play on the water for a couple of days, get burnt, and pooped out and then come home. One of those vacations you need a vacation from. I love the 4th! It's my most favorite holidays.
Well I got 4 eggs today so maybe locking the boys up is doing the trick. I was at one time getting 8 to 9, but I guess I have to be happy with what I get. Well got to go do chores! Take it easy everyone!

PS anyone hear from BBCB lately? Was just down in his neck of the woods a couple days ago and was wondering how his job hunt was going.

Annarie, now I am worried! I had geese before and they could get loud when they wanted to, but I NEVER thought these little calls would be THAT loud! Oh boy....... and now I have nine of them.......

Dr. H sorry yes I did get the crust recipe. I need to try it out soon but with the bathroom junk I just never have time for anything any more!

welcome-byc.gif

I better get cracking and seal that tile so we can get the toilet in and the washer and dryer!

Beautiful dry morning all!

Glad your bathroom is coming along bet you'll be glad when it's finished. Bec I've been worried about BBCB myself hope all is well with him, know he's working some weird hours plus trying to keep up with his chores. Too bad about the concert that sucks to shell out that kind of $ and not have a good time. annarie that's a neat piece of info. Is that a duck in your pocket or are you just glad to see me? Sorry not awake yet. More coffee then out to weed nice breeze should keep the squito's off. But first some cin/raisin bread!

Hey Domes!! Where in Southeastern, WI are you? I am in Big Bend/Muskego area! I've found a lot of people that are commenting like annarie, Dr. H, and some others are about 2-3 hours away from me!! Booo

Would be nice to know a BYCer closer to home!!

Hope everyone is doing well this morning! We finally had a night with no rain! I haven't watered my garden in over a week because of this constant rain!! I hope it starts taking off. It's been growing, but i'm getting impatient for veggies!

Hello to Raiquee and Domes Farm!!! Nice to add folks to the Cheesehead collection
smile.png

We lost power on Sat night, and it did something to the phone and internet; haven't been online for a few days. DH called phone company this morning, and whadaya know, everything kicks back in before noon, and before the tech gets here - ARRRGGGHHHHH!!! Ever since we moved, we've had problems every time it rains (this year sucks!), and at least a dozen service calls and the problem still comes back. We're about ready to demand an entire rewiring...

Julie and I took a little drive on Sat to get some started chicks from someone I found on Craigslist. We both came home over our limits, of course. Actually, it felt more like a rescue mission; the guys' pens were dirty and crowded
sad.png
But the birds we brought home will have great lives now. I got 3 Wyandottes (1 Columbian, 2 Silver Laced), a Delaware and a Barnevelder. Up to 37 birds now, sheesh. And I want more, LOL! It will be a coop-building summer next year for sure.

Annarie, Julie's still trying to connect with Amber for the D'Uccle; must be a busy gal. Becky, years ago my grandpa sold someone a GSD pup from his female's litter; when they picked up the pup they put a collar and leash on it and literally dragged it to their car. My grandpa almost called it off. But a couple years later they sent note saying what a great dog it was, and a pic of him sitting with the owners in their fishing boat, so we assumed it did go to a decent home. But I still woulnd't have sold chicks to that guy of yours, HA!

DrH, Sept 2 cannot come fast enough, especially with the humidity. I went through it with DS, too, he was born in early Oct. Didn't learn anything, I guess. Tease away, my dad even calls me the fat lady, I'm immune.

Looks to be a gorgeous week, no rain, weehawwww!!! Take advantage, before Noah comes back.

Amyable, you look great! I had 3 kids in the summer; one 8 yrs ago today, one at the end of July and one two weeks into August! You will be just fine, swollen ankles mean you need to increase your protein levels...... I'll shut up now......
big_smile.png

Dr. H; yes I have a tool belt, cordless tools, all my own stuff since my DH has a fit if anybody touches his things. I thought this was a better way to avoid arguments about tools!
wink.png
Every woman should have their own power tools! They are WAY too much fun!
wink.png

Off to the UW to get some labs set up for the summer school kids.

Later!

Domes Farm I, too, am far away. I'm in Waupaca.

Amyable, glad to hear you are fairly nicely in this heat. I see you picked a name.
smile.png
How many chickens does Julie have now? Is she replacing all of the ones she lost?

And Becky'schicks, I was thinking the same thing about BBCB.
hmm.png
Hope all is well.

The 4th of July is just a round the corner. Looks like we might see Fireworks in Iola on Friday, Weyauwega in Saturday, and Waupaca on Sunday. I think that's right. I ~LOVE~ fireworks! Anyone else love them?

Well, it's not like they'll be carrying on all day long. Just at feeding time mostly. I have one crazy old Pekin who has this deep, booming quack that carries all the way into the house (the duck pens are out on the edge of the yard, sort of in the woods), and the neighbors who rent the other half of the duplex from us (the duplex we live in was built so my great-aunt could live independently with us, but she passed away a few years ago) think it's cute - they say it sounds like she's laughing at them.
smile.png

On the other hand, all of my extra Bantam Cochin Roosters (I have 7 of them old enough that they're crowing now, and another 3 young cockerels that will start up in a month or so) crowing all day long really irritates the neighbors. It's not that they're louder, it's just that they go ALL DAY LONG, whereas the duck's quacking fits are more sporadic. Too bad for them though - that's what they signed up for when they signed the lease!

I was just looking at my calender, and the last batch of Indian Runner duck eggs for the year go into lockdown at the end of the week! It's going to be really quiet in the house without the hum of the incubators running!

Just think how much the electric bill will go down Annarie! Oh yeah--you are just a "keid" so maybe you dont think about those things? (but maybe you have to contribute?) I told my dd18 today when she asked about a new halter and a bunch of other stuff for her horse that maybe she should start buying the stuff herself and then perhaps she would take better care of it? Sorry for the rant...
duc.gif
Pet peeve of mine I guess.

Set up a whole new cage for ALL my finches and the lone button quail...let me tell ya, she is a better layer than some of my hens!!!
duc.gif
Her eggs are so cool looking...really dark brown with speckles.

Welcome Domes! I am in Jefferson County so maybe near to you...our fair is next week and maybe you could come out and check out the poultry. There is a very extensive project and the kids are very willing to sell their birds at the end of the fair. That is where I got my Australorpe trio last year. The roo was best of show and one of the hens was second best. There must have been 500 birds there! You might find something worthwhile and I could grab it for you at the end of the fair...look me up in the cultural arts exhibit--I am the superintendent!

I sure hope BBCB is doing OK...maybe he got that job and is now working lots? Either that or he is sitting around listening to the CDs DrH made for him and cant bother with us anymore because he is so relaxed...

No word from Stuart or Monty for today. I just hope they found each other and are having the greatest adventure EVER! (for those that are new..they are my tortoises that have gone on walkabout!) I am still really upset about the situation but there is not anything I can do about things that just dont want to live here I guess...it still makes me pretty sad though.
hit.gif

I have a bunch of eggs hatching in the coop the last day or two! Finally one of those banties got a spot that worked! There are some of the cutest chicks ever under her! I will try to get some pics tonight--I am hoping the rest of the eggs will be hatched by then so I can move them out of there. Just in time to take them for a "farm day" where my daughter works in the summer program. I have no idea what else I could bring...maybe a few ducklings...most of my stuff is pretty wild because I would rather let the Mom's hatch it and take care of the babies! The guineas and the turkey babies are way to crazy to take anywhere!

Well, I am out to see what I can see in the yard...tortoises? Chicks? Toads? Baby goats? Never can really tell around here! Talk at you all later! Terri O

(PS) BL4--the offer is still open for you to do some tile here! I thought my DH was the only one that was so possessive of his stuff! I had to go out and get my own .22 because he wouldnt let me use his...but I tricked him to put the bucket on the skid loader...I am going out to push the extra water out of the barn NOW!

I have all my own tools too...in a LOCKED box!
