Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BL4) 2?!!?!! I had the kitchenaid mixer on my birthday, christmas, anniversary and every other thing list for 3 years before I got one!! I understand what you mean on the pasta machine. They do make plates for the meat grinder (I think it runs a little under $50) to do simple pasta. I'm Italian (as i'm sure I mentioned already) and have an obsession with making pasta. It's sick really. And, well, a rolling pin does not lead to good pasta. Pasta is so dang cheap, why I don't get over this obsession is beyond me. Ravioli is what I do love to make though, and with good reason. Have a safe trip!

DrH) Good to know about the meat grinder. We don't need anything crazy, seeing as we'd really just use it for deer (maybe chicken, as I do like chicken burgers and ground chicken is WAY overpriced). Unless DH because a master hunter and brings home 6 deer, (and seeing as he got 0 last season, I doubt this will happen) I think the attachment will suffice, if not we will upgrade! haha.

TO) I'm so sorry to hear your back is hurting you

Hopefully a few days rest will help heal you. Although it sounds like your up and going!!

Amyable) you need to beg and plead for one

There is a reason people have them for years and years and never seem to give them away!! And those peas sound wonderful, I may need to swap some seeds for those too! I was going to do regular sugar snap peas next year, but hey the bigger the better!! Me and my best friend is going to do that too. Set up our mixers at my house and make the dough for cookies! Freeze in my chest freezer in pucks so all we gotta do is bake em! Too bad we didn't get that idea last year!

I'm talking to a farmer up in Green Bay about some possible raw milk...I know it's "taboo" but it's for cheese and I really really want some!
sad.png
Boo WI and your raw milk laws!!

Ditto. That hasn't stopped us though

We've been getting raw milk for about 2.5 years from an organic dairy that grass-feeds their cows. There is nothing like fresh real milk. My MIL insisted I have some milk last time we visited, and we didn't bring any raw with us, and I just couldn't choke down that store junk. It tasted just horrible and plasticy. So I'm totally ruined now!

A Raw Milk bill did make its way through the state house and senate this spring, only to be vetoed by our good-for-nuthin' govna.

I was at the hearings in Eau Claire, that was quite the experience. Now we have to wait for the bill to be reintroduced, hopefully after Nov. IMO, the bill kinda stunk, but it was a first step in the right direction anyway.

Until then, I'm a raw milk outlaw!!!

I was just reading about some stuff and the processing of milk and what it does to the fat in it. The article says that if you HAVE to drink store milk to get the skim milk. (yuk) I dont drink any milk at all now except for the all you can drink stand at the fair...I guess because it is so cold! When I was milking for a neighbor he let us take all the milk we wanted right out of the bulk tank...YUM!!!!!!!!!!! That stuff made the best yogurt, cheese and was great to drink too! There is sombody not too far from me that somehow sells the raw stuff. I think it has to do with having a share of the cow or something. I can find out for you if you like--a lot closer than Green Bay for sure!

Tomorrow I am going on a road trip to Green Lake. My friend's son and his wife are expecting their first baby so I am going to the family shower to protect my friend from her in laws! It should be fun--hopefully we will get to take a boat ride too!

I counted in my coop and there are 8 moms sharing about 30 chicks! More seem to be hatching daily in there! I have some neat looking ones and of course all of them are cute! I just dont know what I am going to do with so many chickens...cant sell my eggs now! I think I have to start reining in this addiction!

Well--DH is yelling that the supper is done on the grill--I guess I better get those veggies cooking! Good night! Terri O

Terri) I would greatly appreciate that!! I can always buy your excess chicks, but...they'd have to stay at your house! lol!

Going up to Appleton tomorrow for a "family reunion". Have no clue where other than appleton lol.

Picked my first eggplant of the season. It's so beautiful, I almost don't want to eat it! My HUGE black Krim that I have been waiting to color up for weeks have finally started blushing on the bottom. Excitied to taste this one!!

Found a baby bunny is living in our wood pile which is RIGHT next to the volunteer tomato plants. So it goes out, has a nibble then retreats. I saw it and flew out of the kitchen weilding a fly swatter (of all things) and screaming and we couldn't get it out of the wood pile. DH shook and prodded the pile and I stood near by with a shovel. Hopefully that puts a fire under hubby's bum to fence in those toms!

Late Evening to all.... special thanks fordmommy for the nice chat with suzie. I really needed a sabbatical to figure things and get things done. I'm glad to read most things are good. Dr H I'm sorry to hear about your culprit in the coop. That's a tuff situation to deal with for sure....my worst nightmare waiting to happen. It's all the work makin simple friends that really do matter and understand you and then ....LOST...again sorry for that. I have extra young ones. I 'd gladdy share some with you. No cost for sure...friendship is all...that's free, eh!

Been busy like everyone. had a great harvest of spinach...glad that their isn't one single potato beetle this year. Healthy leaves and strong tops should be prime spuds waitin the spade.

Hoping everyone is happy and safe... ~ bigzio

Good morning all! Bigz I know the offer comes from the heart. Thanks man! I have seven eggs right now and am hoping for 2 more today. Will start the bator this evening and hopefully in 21 days to be the proud papa.
fl.gif
Your all stuck with me as a friend! Was wondering about the water in the bator it's a little giant does it use up all the water in one day @ 99.5*? Measured it and the rings will hold 1 1/2 cups when dry. Will use a dipstick to check it, it will be hard to see under the turner. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about the prospect of hatching my own babies. Glad to hear your gardens are doing goodly Bigz and the lack of tater bugs this year noticed only a couple myself, way down from past years. Do know that with wet years the taters are more susceptable to hollow heart. Don't like next weeks forecast rain almost every day. I need some wind and sun to empty the water out of my squito hatching ditch next to the house. Still sending positive vibes for employment improvements for BBCB and Raiquee/DH. And of course for the return of Monty and Stuart. Have to go get the tree I dropped yesterday finished up then off to the wedding. Enjoy the day!

Good morning...welcome back Bigz! Nice to hear your voice again. Be careful with that tree drH! Dont want to miss a wedding!
I noticed strange swellings on the faces of some of my turkeys...going to check them out quick this morning before I leave for the baby shower. How come those things always happen on the most beautiful days? Iknow the answer to my own question...THEY dont have animals gardens and farms to deal with! Wish it was at night! So amyway...these swellings are between the eye and the corner of the mouth. On the one dark one it is very large on one side. I posted on the turkey board too--any body here have any ideas?

Well--my bath is done so I guess I better get out and get the chores done too! Have a great day! Terri O

I watched Food Inc. last night..... and now I don't want to eat!!!!

GET ME OUT OF TOWN!!!!!!!!
barnie.gif

I will confess, the first Kitchenaid was a wedding present, the second was my great uncle's and I managed to get it when he moved to assisted living...... but I still stand firm that every kitchen should have one!!!

I love our milk too! I do not get mine from an organic farmer, but the guy I do purchase from has a nice place and he runs a clean shop. The yogurt cannot be beat!!!!

Stupid Governor; I bet if that boob was running for office again he would have signed that bill.......

Well, another day in the land of Lincoln. Later!

Good, glorious morning to you all! What a morning!

The Weather Channel says it's to be a high of 89* for us today. Guess where we'll be. Anyone wanta play in our pool with us????
wink.png

I put an add on craigslist to sell 8-10 chickens. Mostly pullets. But I have a cockeral or two that could go too if anyone needs any. If any of you are in need, PM me.

Enjoy the day and enjoy life!

Dr H) Thank you for the wishes on finding employment. Or even if our unemployment gets reinstated I would be thrilled!! It's better than the big fat nothing we are bringing home.
sad.png
Then we could apply for a job that our skills are meant for, rather than frantically applying for anything that moves.

TO) Hope your turkeys are okay!! I know nothing about turkeys
smile.png

BL4) I love Food Inc. I believe it leads you on a whole new prospective. Even shedding light on the "organic" companies. I went out and bought Stonyfield Yogurt after that movie
smile.png
We had stopped at McDonalds and I only ate half my sandwich and gave the other half to Hubby. I was like, I can't eat this! And I was the one raised on fast food for 4 years!! I also knew about Monsanto before Food Inc due to the "Monsanto patents the pig" video, and was even more enraged when watching Food Inc!

I have to say I hate living by Milwaukee. Yes, me and DH are younger (24) and it is nice to go to the clubs and have a good time once in awhile, but not often enough to live so close! No dairy farm around here would dare sell raw milk. Also, our farmers markets are going down hill. I went to the farmers stand that serviced Big Bend for years, and had great sweet corn. I walked up there and they had sooo many products! I pick up a bag of grapes and boldly across the front it said "Product of Mexico", so did the blueberries. I asked the lady, just to be sure they weren't reusing packaging and she said "no, we don't grow those". I nearly fell on the floor and promptly told Hubby about it. He just shook his head and said "What happened to them!?" I got a 1/2 dozen ears of sweet corn and it was 2.25, and NONE of them were ready, and half of them were short!!!
somad.gif
She didn't let me pick them either, she just bagged them.

We now support a farm a little out of the way, but you buy from their farm and they just have a table with a money box. They grow a garden essentially, just large scale! Cukes, Zukes, green beans, broccoli, dill, corn, radishs, cabbage, kolhrabi, greens....everything! I saw corn there, for $2 a dozen, and you got to pick them, and they were beautiful and big! There is also a corn cart buy us too that just has corn and a box that says "Pay what you can". I usually put in an extra buck, if we have it just to show we really support them.

Sorry, I talk a lot.

I sat up and knitted for awhile ( I knit preemie hats for the babies in the NICU) another thing I had to self train myself on. Thank god for Youtube!!

Going up to Appleton around 12:30. My dad wants to "sight see". I don't know what there is to sight see, but i'd love to see the country. But we won't cause my dad wants to see the "city"
