Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

TO; Southeners are fine to you if you visit, living there is a whole different ball game. Pretty much Yankee go home. I have heard enough from the people who transferred down there to run another plant of where my DH works. Not that everyone is like that but there are a lot who are.

Dr. H, going to make your pie crust today! Now that I have all this free time I can finally make it! Going to be a raspberry pie; I can't wait!

Tyler, the only issue I had with efowl was that I asked the calls to be shipped by such-in-such a date and they never replied with an kind of information that they would not be able to fill my order at that time. I did get the calls but it was a full 4 weeks after my specified order date. I wanted them to arrive roughly when the ones in my incubator hatched. An email giving me an estimated shipping date would have been nice. They are beautiful! I ended up with a bibbed one and I have no idea how that happened since they do not advertise them on their site!

Anyway, off to create more chaos. Later!

Just came in from the garage and it wasn't bad at all, only a couple of skeeters. But a nice breeze! Got my work done out there sort of and am now heading out to the garden for some fresh salads to go with tonights entree of piggy chops on the barbie. Of course a slice of bread lightly slathered in some heart stopping butter for the grains part. Life is good! I like it! Teamchaos Would think that being where you are you'd be canning by now, garden go in late? Don't worry as long as you pay attention canning is very easy but labor intensive at times. That makes it taste all the more better! You did it! Raimnel sorry for the confusion. It was in response to Beckyschicks laughing. And I was going to hose down the chickens because it was so nasty outside but the cold water would have put them in shock from the temp change. Don't worry I often say things that only I understand. It's fun and cheap entertainment. H&R are you behaving? You better! Tell the DH if I have to wait so does he. It sucks!

Terri O...yes I'm crabby as all getout! I worked thirds when I was in my early thirties and it was tough going then, now, at the big 5-0, it's like torture. Good news is that I'm working, and getting paid, and keeping the wolves from the door. Sometimes that's got to be good enough.

Terri, Doc, Bigz, BL4, FordMommy, Becky, H&R, BCC, Cedar Post and all the new folks, I hope everyone is having a terrific summer, and no one has drowned. The farm had serious flooding last week, we got almost 8 inches in 12 hours! I couldn't let the birds out, the culvert adjacent to the coop was a raging river. They were besides themselves, not being able to get out for almost 48 hours. But the water abated and then they feasted on all the goodies washed in by the creek. I'm down to 15 birds...lost 6 to a dog and then an SLW left for the prom one night and never came back. I'm considering reinforcements at some point, but I've been so busy and so many projects left unattended, it's hard to justify taking on any more work at this time. Perhaps next spring.

Our two silkies, Bonnie and Clyde, now have their own digs near the house, and are loving it. They are out of the cage most of the time, and are the sweetest things. They always stay close by us and everyone who stops by has a good laugh at how crazy they look.

Mom has really taken to the birds, though she'll never admit it! Since I work until 8 am she's out at the break of dawn letting the chickens out and making sure everyone has food and water. She is a big chicken TV watcher now and I can't help but stifle a smile when she goes on and on about what the chickens are up to...

Our fields are leased out to a farmer who grows sweet corn and so we've been eating more sweet corn than an army. MY God, is it good this year!!! I call it Crack on the Cob, I just can't get enough of it...though the girls are starting to say enough is enough. Everything around here is so lush, different from last summer which was cool and very dry.

I've got the State Fair weightlifting competition coming up, and I'm all excited because I'm in a new age bracket!!! I just turned 50, so I'll be Masters level (50-54) and the older you get, the less competition there is...ha! I've been training since end of June so I'm ready, and going for the World Record at the 242 lb weight class. I'll let you know what transpires, and I'm going to put in a youtube link...

Everyone enjoy and I'll try and stay up on my reading, but this is surely a prolific crowd! Everytime I turn around there's another five pages on our thread. Good on us!

Tyler, I may have to take on your wife at the Fair!

The colors I think I have are (bear with me, this is what I think I have based on coloring, I am sure there are more specific names for the color patterns but I do not know what they are):

1 Apricot Female(?) (they call them khaki on the site but the one I have is MUCH lighter)
1 Black bibbed Male(?) Very squeeky voice
1 Black (I think it is a Cayuga) Male(?)
1 Pastel or Snowy Female
2 Grey females

I have two blue bibbed magpie ducks, one from Alpineranch and one from Sundown waterfowl.

I was planning on getting rid of some of these ducks since we DO live in town, but my DH loves them! When I suggested we sell the Greys he looked so hurt, I guess we are keeping them.

I will try to get pictures up soon so the 'experts' can help me out.....

Dr. H the pie looks and smells wonderful. I can't wait to taste it and see if I butchered the crust.

BBCB-glad to hear things are going well for you-good luck at State Fair, I'm hoping that we can slow down just a bit for the rest of the summer! DD's sofball tourny is this weekend and then the kids are done with baseball/softball for the year. Of course I have at least 3 more rental units coming open at the end of this month besides the one I am currently working on-just about finished cleaning and then on to painting it. Now if we can just find some spare minutes to start planning and then building the new coop.

Boss just called needs me to send out a couple of emails so back to work

BL4 I think you should break off a piece of that nasty crust and hide it in your mouth just to be sure no one dies from that particular chunk. I can smell that sumB from here. fm's jelly is fading away at this rate. Don't worry fm I'll come up with something. I just realized that this is about the only time I sit down during the day. Thanks! BBCB I'm so glad that you could have the time to let us know whats been going on! Maybe in the near future I could help you with some replacement SLW's if wanted

50 ain't nuttin, your just starting to feel pain! But if your lifting like that bet you feel it! Good luck on that! Is that a dead lift? I feel I'm doing good just lifting my butt outta bed. I can just see your hidden grin while mom hides her affection for the kids. On the same line I couldn't believe it this morning when L went to work. Normally they just about jump in the car with her when she leaves or comes home. But this morning they wouldn't even look at her. They were PO'd that she put them to bed. That was WRONG! Daddy always does that. I asked her how many times she whacked them with a stick last night. God their funny! Speakin of corn an army buddy just told me that they just put up 20 dozen ears. That's 240 cobs! Told him to get used to seeing it every BM. On the lifting as Red Green says " just remember we're all pullin for ya". Just looked today and come a week from Sat. there should be some fluffy butts sleepin on L's side of the bed. But don't tell her it'll be a surprise. Shhh!

Good Afternoon to All...Life has been busy here on the hill. The flock is growing well with the javas being a really nice bird. Since most of the critical breeds need work, I definetly have a project with them as well as the buckeyes...if we are going to do these backyard flocks for critical breeds, then we might just as well improve them along the way, or why bother, eh? (that's my opinion) the standard of perfection is the best guideline to follow (I know you all know that) just sayin.

The gardens are producing well, the canning and freezing season is in full swing here.

Special Welcome to all the new folks....glad you found the madness..alot of kind folks here to help you.

Stay Safe, Have Fun As always.... ~ bigzio
