Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Stormy morning! Welcome to all who are new!!!!! Nearly 30 posts since I was on yesterday. Too many for me to reply to. Busy boy ya know. Sounds like everyone is well and making great strides in putting up their winter larder. I got 3 pints of relish done plus some roma's froze for sauce. Oh Oh here comes the rain and wind chickens are freakin! WOW it's pouring! Now I remember that I was going to cover the chimney, too late now. Quite the light show too. Put out the rain gauge when I went and picked beans for L to take to work before the storm hit. Also picked cayenne and jalapenos for drying and am stinging them now. I had 95 yesterday also, hid in the house except for fresh water for the kids and getting the mail. This ought to make the garden grow!

Going to pick baby dills if they haven't turned into foot longers since 6:30 after it clears up along with cilantro and dill. Going to keep an eye out at rummage sales for a pressure canner can use the BFF's but it's a small one and it's a hassle running it back and forth. Going to need it for the carrots soon. Looks like the worst has passed but I'll bet there's over and inch in the gauge. H&R and BCC the B&B recipe is very close to both of yours so I'm hoping their good. Wow that relish brine is sticky hope that's a good sign. Think it is. Really looking forward to next weeks human weather! Now back to work. Hum Hum Hum! Just ran out and looked over an inch and a half in about 10 minutes.

That's a LOT of rain DrH! It was blue sky when I got up but now is gray and looks like we too could have some rain. Maybe it will cool it down a bit? (yeah right!) We went to the beach last night to chill down and I think I got a goose bump when I stretched my feet down to the slightly cooler water. Seriously the lake was not real refreshing! More like bath water...then when you got out BAM--instant mosquitoes all over your bod! Needless to say, we didnt stay long!
Funny I thought you meant the lakes Godsgrl! I guess I read Green Bay and that is what I thought. THere certainly are areas where the tap water smells. I am so fortunate that both my wells are not stinky! The barn well has the most amazing water....the places you have visited must be in a bad aquafir. OK my computer is being stupid again....I am going to reboot!

I agree with TO, the water up here is fantastic and has never smelled bad. I do know the area around Lake Geneva has gross water, or it did 15 years ago......

A way to eliminate the smell is to install a filter of some kind, it just depends on the level of H2S present in the water.

This rain is raining on my parade!!!!! I wanted to be lazy on the beach today!!!!!!

I guess I have to put it off for tomorrow.....

You are all nuts to be canning in this weather....... this is when you need an outdoor kitchen! I really need to get on the ball and start some pickles.

Anyway, have a good day everyone!

OK--trying again...there were a whole bunch of updates that were trying to install so maybe it will be "nice" now! We got a slight breeze here and I thought the rain might come but now it is hotter than ever! Yesterday mu cukes actually wilted in the sun...that is a new section of the garden so the soil is super porous still being mostly compost!

Very interesting links FM and BL4! Read every word. I always wondered why my Mom's water was so bad smelling too! Learn something new every day in this awesome place!
I went and had a look for my grandma's B&B pickle recipe and I cant find it! Now I am worried. I am not sure where it might be so I have to search my 500+ cookbooks for a card sticking out I guess! Good thing I can sit in front of the fan and do that! I know it is very similar to the one H&R posted but I think it used already made up pickling spices plus turmeric. THat I do remember! You can also make them with zucchini if you dont have pickles. She made another thing that she called "Slippery Jims" they were from watermelon rind. I have never made them and have not seen a recipe for them. Of course my Mom doesnt remember...
I did find one for zucchini relish from my husbands great aunt. It is fantastic if anyone would like the recipe. I make it every year with the year end stuff from the garden.

OK I am off to the canning board now to see what everyone else is making today...I am going to try some homemade tomato soup in the crockpot...got lots of maters to use up! Have a great day--Terri O

I remember camping as a kid in northern In. and the sulpher in the water made me puke when they MADE me take a shower. Like sticking your head in an incubator after it's been on for 2 years with the same eggs. Have hard water here and have to use a softener but it's not bad. The sky's are clearing need to go pick baby dills and want to fire up the other boat motor. BFF and fam are camping nearby next week and think it would make a good maiden voyage. A three hour tour, a three hour tour. Made a box of brownies and a homemade noodle salad except for the noodles to accompany home grown chicken for tonights feast. Just sat back for a good 10 minutes and was counting our blessings. Good clean meat in the freezers, good clean veggies canned and in the freezer, fresh eggs, a great life's companion, and the company of all you good people! Life is truely good! Drh Drh pick me pick me gotta go cuc's are a callin.

Made another pot of coffee...dh is home! That means it disappears QUICK. Somebody asked about those abbreviations yesterday, Dh is dear husband (or sometimes the D stands for something else!) DD18 is dear daughter who is 18. DS dear son etc.
OK--that rain has arrived here DrH--I smelled it (smells NOTHING like Fresh Rain candles or room spray!) but I think we only got 17 drops! Maybe more is on the way? I kinda hope so..."three hour tour"

you cracked me up! There is this boat on the island that looks just like that boat and I sing the song every time I drive past it each week! I will see if I can get a pic off my phone and show it to you! Deet dedalee deet deet da lee.......the skipper and marianne...see what you started!
BCC--those choc muskovies are fantastic! Any chance you need to get rid of a drake? I would love a mate for Frankie that was a "real" chocolate. Then maybe I would stop getting all these pied 'skovies! I really need a little boy quail too....
Still havent found g'ma's recipe for B&B pickles...might have to call SIL. Maybe I gave it to her once upon a time...or, I could just try a new one IF I ever get any cukes!
Think I will take a walk outside and see what's up with the critters. I am wearing my 'skeeter jacket even if it is 90! Terri O

(PS) Raiquee...do the ducklings love you yet? Frankie really gave me the stink-eye when I was feeding yesterday!

Going to door county today! Waiting for this line of storms to pass, otherwise we are driving up in it the whole way there!

I think the ducks still hate me. But oh well. lol. I will work with them a bit when I get back Sunday. Then they should be used to the place enough to be held at that point.

I go back to school on the 26th, booo.
