Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

All this sad stuff for September! We need something really HAPPY for October........wait for it......we would like to announce the 2nd (for this year) get together of the Cheeseheads of BYC! THis will just be a mini-meet so to speak. It would be nice to meet up with some of the newest members and there cant be a better way to do it than to have a Chickenstock! SO the meet up can be either on 10-23 (Saturday) or 10-24 (Sunday) Does anyone that is planning on traveling to the meet-up have any preference? My vote is for Saturday. This will be held at the Horsemen's campground just outside of Palmyra, WI. I dont even have to contact them to know that chickens are welcome, as are dogs, horses and even obnoxious little campers! The fee applies as it did at our June chickenstock, this is a state park. (if you want to learn a new hobby, I have a letterbox planted here and there are several others in the area! (google letterboxing))
I am excited! Everyone join in the discussion and let's PLAN!

Well, now I am just too excited and I cant even type...I do want to show you today's activities though first, Puppy exercise time!

And now...harvest for today:

The potatoes are some of the ones from the last pic when I dug them but everything else is from today! We are eating a whole bunch of it with our steaks for our Labor Day BBQ--thought I was going to have many people here...just me and DH--we have A LOT to eat!

Two kids went back to college and the other is working tonight...of course she and her BF want plates made so they "can eat together after work" AWWWWW--isnt that cute? So I will cook and save....again...

Ok--off to make all that food into something good to eat! I am scheming and thinking of what we might do for a gift exchange....since we all seem to be such good cooks we could do something with food...home canned goods? Home baked food.....wheels are turning! Terri O

Good Labor Day End To All....The gardens are still full of carrots, beets and wheel barrows of winter squash...thanks for the kind words Doc. We have over 1,000 canning jars in the mix, with the pantry and the relation....All MY Jars....it's the policy to bring your jars back or you ain't getten no more. Hope you used the hot water bath for the relish. The jars scream sealed with relish like really nothing other.
I'm puter stupid, but I'll share a pic of the pantry for canning jars that I built over 30 years ago.
I'll also have jennie scan the actual instructions for the same. It holds like 1,000 jars. Mine is almost full. I really feel blessed....Fordmommy, if you're happy, I'am too.

The fire pit was rockin with apple wood. Sure smells good. The rain came in, and we went in too.

Have a good week coming up.... ~ bigzio

Hellooooo...... Terri has PM'd me, so I thought I'd stop in just to post and introduce myself. As you can tell, I live in Wisconsin - on the western edge. I won't be posting very often, but I'll try to keep up on the thread. My time seems to fly away before I know it. Had a great day today taking all the grandkids to the zoo. We managed to not loose any of them!

Now, I'm resting up for tomorrow when I'll be babysitting 3 of them.

Terri - your produce looks beautiful, and I love that old stove. The puppies are adorable.

Oh BCC--you just have to come down to the Chickenfest in October at Palmyra! We can all bring some of our produce and it will be like you grew it yourself! Ya know we all like to share...
Supper is finally on--yeah! I have to go and get those Brussels in the steam...talk soon! Terri O

I'll be at the Food & Energy Fair at Ledge View Nature Center from 9 am to 3 pm, manning a booth with my chickens talking about having chickens in your backyard, if anyone is interested in pullet chicks I'll have 25 of them there for sale.

anyone know how to make yellow jacket bites feel better, I just went to close up and a mess of yellow jackets just got in my hair and bite me oowww

Just wondering how exactly the poultry swaps work. I am really trying hard to find some Black Copper Marans, some Easter Eggers, and some Olive Eggers. I'm really trying to get as many different colored eggs as possible. I am interested in going to some of the swaps in Wisconsin just listed but I'm not sure how they work or if I will be able to find any of the ones I am looking for. Is it worth the drive? I think most of them a pretty far from Manitowoc so I don't want to drive for nothing. Thanks!

with swaps you never really know what will be there, but going to the bigger ones will give you a better chance, Beaver Dam, Fon du Lac are 2 of the big ones. and what you do is get there early walk around and see what for sale
