Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ok thanks! Sounds pretty neat. Sorry about all the silly questions everyone. I have had basically every animal but chickens so I'm a complete newbie when it comes to anything with them.

But when it comes to anything related to cats, dogs, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, reptiles, etc I'm your girl. LOL!

BCC--I sure hope your bites are feeling better! I use Mella-gel on mine but I have also heard an ice cube or just plain scrubbing kinda hard with soap and water. I dont get stung all that much though...I have had a nest of them in the corner of my freezer all summer and they just kind of fly around me and not sting. I must not be too appealing to them 'cause they chased my daughter! Good luck at the energy fair...promote us Cheeseheads!

Welcome GrandmaAnn! GLad you stopped by as you were relaxing from your hectic day! NINE g-kids at the zoo...imagine that! I hope a few are bigger to help you a little! Stop by whenever you can!

Our dinner was delish! (and quite quiet with only the 2 of us!) The steak was definitely not as good as home grown but...WHat can ya do right?
I am pretty tired and have aching knees--I need to take cats to Sun Prairie tomorrow to get fixed. I have caught two in the last 3 nights. The most recent is WILD! Really a nice looking cat though so I hope he sticks around after his "procedure!"

So good night everyone...talk tomorrow and as always...sweet dreams! Terri O

Ah ha, I beat ya DrH! But only because the little bundle has been wide awake since 4

I like that little brown pup best, what cuties.

BCC, my grandma put apple cider vinegar on bee stings. Hope you killed off that nest. LedgeView is not too far from me, maybe I'll come see ya. What day is it??

FM, that camp sounds great, glad you had fun. Very cool you met another cheesehead, bonus!

Welcome GrandmaAnn!

GrandmaAnn! Stop in as often as you can! fm I've often wondered about that camp ground and you must have missed a page WC told us he worked there when he first got on here. So sit up straight and pay attention!

TO that is a really nice pile O food and agree with GA, neat stove! Bigzio I was thinking your larder must number in the several hundreds. Yup used water bath on the relish still not sure on the sealing of the 2 pints. But thinking maybe the lids weren't hot enough or maybe not enough head space. Too good to make that mistake! Won't happen anymore. Removing the garden pump today won't be doing anymore watering till next year. Kinda sad. Heading out to the garage today to work on that boat motor and whatever else I can find. Going to close off the communal nest box so the wyandottes will go back on the roost. Got 3 eggs yesterday one after I let them out of prison.

Made a zippy BBQ sauce yesterday for some chick wings tonight. Must like it cause I was laying in bed last night trying to figure out what it was that I was craving. It was the sauce.

Well DrH...since you didnt say it..."happy breezy morning to ya!" Took the words right out of your mouth I bet; or maybe it isnt so breezy there. All night I listedned to the wind and it is still here this morning. Didnt catch any more feral cats last night--holding at 2. I cancelled my appt for today cause I just plain over-scheduled myself for the day!
Amyable--perhaps you can get a nap in today? Everyone always told me that too but I never did. With the last one we just brought her in bed with us...guess she was just cold! Winter babies are like that I guess...
Thanks for the thoughts on my produce...that stove is a beaut especially when all polished up! It is porcelain and nickel over cast iron so heavier than an elephant! Doesnt get done too often either cause it takes a whole day!

Off to work now...then to the retirement place to help serve lunch and then off to Madison to visit DD. FUll day so you wont have to read and more of my rambling for today!!! Have a great one!

Yes very windy here too TO! Just got back from a town run took the wind out of MY sails. Looks like most things got put on the back burner today. Lets call it practice for winter. But I know I'll find things to do.

Hello and Long Time No See!

Hi One and All, it's been over a month since I've checked in, forgive me for my absence. I finally, FINALLY, got the employment opportunity I've been looking for, so it's been a hectic end of summer. I'm now working fulltime day hours, so good bye night shift, hopefully for ever. Dang near wore my old butt completely out, working all those nights and trying to keep up with the farm and the family during the day.

I'm going to spend some time now getting caught up on the thread...I think there's 50 pages since I've last been here!!! What a prolific bunch this is. Good to see Terri, Becky, BL4, BCC, Fordmommy, the inimitable Doc H and all the rest...

A quick update on the flock...we're averaging about 8-10 eggs a day, and we've got quite an assortment! Greens, blues, light browns and dark browns, all shapes and sizes. Not bad for 13 hens. It's been fun for the girls going into the coop everyday to what's waiting for them. All the hens are laying in the egg boxes, they sure took to them. I carpeted the boxes because I was getting some cracked eggs and with the straw it works like a charm. I've got to get rid of Jerry Lee, he's been going at Mom and the girls in the morning and he's just one roo too many. I've got Elvis II, a beautiful purebred Ameraucana, and he's less aggressive and seems to be gentler with the hens.

Sweet corn season is now officially ended here on the farm as of yesterday, and the chickens and I are already going through withdrawal. That corn was so sweet, juicy and addictive that we call it "crack on the cob"...the chickens are really going to miss it, they've been eating well over a dozen ear a day. Whatever didn't get sold by the end of the day went to their stash, and now they'll be waiting til next year. Scratch just doesn't cut it when you've been eating sweet corn non-stop for 6 weeks.

Although my allergies are now in full swing, gosh I love this time of year. Thank goodness that sticky weather is gone...I could never live down south, I'd end up in a straight jacket.

Now to get reading!
