Well it was a wonderful weekend off of work! Me? Off? on a weekend? Yes it happened...

It was really cool to stop by for some ice for my cookout and meet Fordmommy, F.M. I stopped back out about 6:45 But did'nt see ya, Heck your right down the road though! Glad you had such a good time, I love it there! I am usually always there as I'm jay's right hand man lol. Oh yeah whats going on in Wega? Is it just for rabbits?

Dr. Good memory and you tell er!!

So I have all my chickens on duramycin, bummer cause I'm getting eggs from my production reds and E.E.'s Urrg Can't eat my first eggs!
My frizzle that was sneezing has a runny nose as well
sad.png
She sneezes alot, I did'nt isolate her from the rest as they were already together when I noticed, and I figured the whole flock could use some antibiotic as a precaution? The brahma I got with the pecked eye, well it is swelling worse and closed all the way some seepage(I've learned my lesson check out chickens b4 you buy!!!) Hopefully she will get better with the duramycin as well..Both of these hens came from the same place. They said after I called back that they knew the brahma had a pecked eye from a roo but thought it would get better, wish they woulda said that when I was there! And they said they have no other sneezy chickens it was prolly from stress they said?? Funny thing is they all seem happy and normal even the sick one and hurt one!! My lil cochin bantam is the top hen and there is a lil pecking order happening.

I am looking for a white silkie hen!! Will pay top dollar!

Just like I thought I am loving having chickens and have spent alot of time sitting with them!

To the newbies, I'm new as well, It took me 2 weeks from build start to having chickens and eggs! The best advice I can give is buy your chickens slow maybe a couple a week and take time to check them out before buying! There is a wealth of info here take some time(hours and hours) to read!

Peace, everyone be safe! Mitch,,,, Yeah I caught the good Dr. calling me Mitch instead of W.C.

I have:

2. Prod. reds Laying an egg a day a piece
2 E.E.'s Laying an egg a day between the 2
1 bad eye brahma
1 sick frizzle pullet
1 bantam cochin sweet to me but not other hens
1 crazy polish
1 s.l. wydotte pullet
1 barred rock pullet

Sorry but I missed ya dude! Was making cin/raisin bread this morning and jumped back on here just to send out an SOS to ya. Low and behold your on here. So glad you got the job you wanted/needed! Can't even begin to think of a night job and the toll it takes on ones life. Sounds like your treating your girls right and their reciprocating. I got 4 out of 6 today for the first time in a long one. So many changes and upsets. Now if the wyandottes would start laying

I've been called many many things but I think you are the first to call me inimitable. I thank you sir! I like being an individual, truth be told I don't have a choice. Glad to have you back!!!! WC/Mitch WOW you certainly have taken to this chicken thing quickly and obviously well. Won't be long and you'll be thinking why did I make the coop so small?

Glad most of your birds are working out now comes the fun part... Watching them watch you watching them.

It'a life enriching process! Glad you got to meet fm isn't she cool!!! You now have a very very good neighbor. I like to tease her on occasion as I do most but some don't appreciate my wit. So like I've said so many times before if I ever offend you or hurt your feelings just lay into me trust me you won't be the first or the last. I never mean anything by it but I can be insensitive at times. Can't help it I'm stupid with a big mouth. They go hand in hand you know. You've been warned.

Hello everyone! So I managed to meet up with a lady that was getting chicks in Ohio and she picked up 2 female Ameraucana chicks for me. Has anyone ever gotten chicks from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio? Also they say on the site that their Ameraucanas lay different colored eggs but I thought they only are suppose to lay blue eggs. Urgh so confusing. Also I am hoping to begin doing some egg hatching myself soon. I just need to buy a nice incubator and I want to hatch some "olive eggers" and some black copper marans someday. I plan to keep a few myself and then I have family that will take the rest. Also I am starting my basement renovations to turn it into a giant animal area and the big side room is going to be turned into an indoor chicken coop. Wish me luck!

GC Pretty soon you'll get a break on your taxes and insurance. No house just barn.

I ordered from Meyer last spring and couldn't be happier! They shipped really well and all the birds are doing great. Except for the dead ones. But that wasn't their fault, varmint! Be prepared for sticker shock $7 a piece for 8 chicks.

That's because any Ameraucana from a hatchery is really an Easter Egger. EE's are mutts that are part Ameraucana or Araucana; only breeders have purebreds of these breeds. But the hatcheries still advertise them as Ameraucanas/Araucanas/Americanas. (Spelling it wrong is a dead give-away that they have EE's.) Since EE's are mutts, they can lay any color egg - blue, green, pink, brown, white. Pure Ameraucanas and Araucanas lay blue eggs in various shades. This is a good thread on the differences between these birds, I was just reading it yesterday. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=128806

Hey
Bigz, I got Jim's last Ameraucana at the meetup; turned out to be a boy, but he is growing up so pretty and soooo nice. He lets my 3-yr-old catch him and pick him up. Definitely a keeper roo

Dr HaHa- My husband makes jokes all the time that we should start charging people admission when they come over because it's basically a petting zoo. I figure since I can't find a house in the country we will be the country to our house. LOL!

amyable- It's so frusterating. I can't seem to find the chickens I want anywhere. URGH! My original goal was to have 2 blue egg laying hens, 2 chocolate egg laying hens, and 2 olive egg laying hens. I want to get the biggest egg color variety possible but finding the right chickens is impossible. The few place I found only had hatching eggs available or they had a 25 chick minimum, or they were sold out of what I needed.

Soooo if anyone within driving distance has any Black Copper Marans, truely blue egg laying breeds, or olive laying breeds available let me know!! Thanks!!

Brrrr it's so windy here that we have trees and branches falling all over the roads. Must mean winter is in the air! Does anyone have any ideas for my indoor basement chicken coop? So far I am planning to put down a giant tarp over the cement floor and then cover that with bedding. We also turned one of the windows into a giant fan so that we can keep the air and smell blowing outside. Then we are building nest boxes and have areas for perching. It will kind of look like one of those fancy bird cages at the zoo by the time we are finished. We also have a run and coop we are building for outside as well so that they can be outdoors when its nice out. The indoor coop is mainly there in case it gets to cold or if our neighbors cause problems.

I caught Up! YAY! now I'm outta time!

You want a good recipe?! who was it that made BBQ chicken?? we made BBQ chicken on the grill this weekend and with the left overs I made BBQ chicken pizza! OMWord! that is SOoooo good!! DrH you make all that bread, do you have a bread machine? I use the bread machine to make the pizza crust dough and then spread BBQ sauce over it and diced chicken and cheese and bake! it's heavenly! I didnt put enough BBQ sauce on it though and had to dunk it! oh well!
DrH I think I may be getting up before you now?!

ugh- sorry about the early rising with little ones.... knock on wood, I am only up early when my son has nightmares, my daughter sleeps pretty good once you get her down. Just nap when they do is the best advice I can give. I have 4 year old twins so it was a way of life when they were little.

Well after the coop tour in Madison, DH has agreed to do this coop thing ourselves...hoping all goes well> it is our fall project.
Then in the spring I will be looking for babies!! Already have my wish list so we will see what we can find somewhat local from that before heading to something like MPC. I know we are getting 6 or so and hoping for girls, although we are ok with a roo too. Just want my eggs!

So if anyone in the south central area is ordering or will have littles in the spring I will be hitting you up!!

Otherwise it is off to finish harvesting my romas. Make a final batch of spaghetti sauce. I am giving up on my cherry tomatoes.... just too many to keep up with and my kids are done eating them and I cant give them away anymore. The few that remain will just become beautiful compost with the bunny poo.
Otherwise I think we have a few pumpkins left and some cucs remaining. Decent harvest this year despite the woodchucks devouring so much of it before we got the fence up.

Gothchick exactly what Amyable said...There is an EXCELLENT purebred Ameraucana breeder named Wayne Meredith in Mukwanago if you're looking for true blue Ameraucanas. I've got three of his birds and 4 EEs and the EEs have olive/blue eggs...the more prominent the ameraucana is in the bird, the bluer the egg. The blue eggs from my purebreds are so cool. I'll post a pic tomorrow to show you along with some of the bird pics. I love both the EEs and the purebreds, the EEs are very gentle and sweet and don't mind coming up and sitting beside me when I'm in the coop.

Doc H thanks for the welcome back, my brother! It's good to be back on, and I'm glad to see you're doing terrific. Both my SLWs have started laying very light brown eggs, and they've been very consistent. I think I got mine a little while before yours, so you should have eggs shortly, I imagine.

With all the traffic from sweet corn sales people have been just going bananas over our flock. We've got a lot of variety, what with orpingtons, RIRs, ameraucanas, EEs, SLWs, GLWs and the like. People were snapping pics left and right and kids were clammering after the flock. They couldn't believe all the colors and the varieties. It's been alot of fun and plenty of questions from wannabee chicken farmers.
