Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Very funny stories! It's nice to have a good laugh in the morning. Raimnel- sorry HE, for some reason I had she in my head when I wrote that. Good luck with the lessons. Terri- Hauling a trailer would have sucked today. My girls are rocks too, but when they can't smell anything and can't hear anything, they are dumb. Exspecially my one girl. She is a great trail horse and is a gem when it comes to my DD8. Will do anything for her, but she is not the most secure horse and doesnt like the wind. My other girl, we have named the big brown B*. She is a rock, and will do anything. She's the horse I take to teach others with, horse and human, but on the trail when it's windy, everything is going to eat her, but only when it's windy. She got her nickname because she doesn't tolerate anyone on the farm in her space and will run them off. I was going to ask you, is your boy that you would bring is a horse with a mission on the trail or a kinda stroller? The reason I ask is because, depending on what he is, will depend on who I bring. Also is he a confindent horse or a leaner. All the horses I have are great with others and behave approperatly. I just have one that's pokey and confident in her own skin and another that is always on a mission and not as confindent. I'm looking forward to going on our ride and wished today would have been better. I need another riding buddy as mine is prego and can't. WCc- where are you in relation to the wild goose trail? Maybe we could all go?
DH and I were talking about the wind last night and couldn't remember the last time it was this windy. But years ago it was always this windy. That's why we have wind mills, but this year has been calm, for the most part. Alright I guess I better go do something. Have a great day everyone!

Becky- Is it near Fond Du Lac? or Juneau ?? I am notn sure I found a Wild Goose state park/trail...

So they upped my dose of antibiotic.. so now its two syringes 2x a day, so the good part is I get it going, get my coffee going.. and sit and veg in front of the computer...
I have gotten it going and made dinner so not too inconvenient.
I reccommend baked chicken breast with garlic pepper on it and baked squash.. LOVE IT!! And last night was grilled cheese sandwiches, using co-jack or marbled cheddar w/ monteray jack.

Chris Deiss- I have a silkie hen I would part with IF you really want another one.
I got them ask 3 wk old chicks in April.
Dr. H- Pls go get your hand looked at!! You don't want to have something bad happen to it. Trust me.. I am now on antibiotics because I accidently jabbed a needle into a bursitis lump, after getting shoved by a horse...
FOR my shoulder...

Still windy here below madison, I am off to go let horses out to graze a bit and check on the chickies..

Thanks WCc for the advise but it's an old problem. I'm old. Both hands hurt from a lifetime of working with them. Fish oil really helps but the weather and recient projects are taking their toll. My right shoulder has been messed up since I was laying in the driveway yanking on a stuck belt on an old garden tractors snow blower and I got PO'd and tore a muscle in it. I can work the knot in my shoulder till the numbness goes away in my thumb and fore finger. They've been numb since I started scraping that floor. Had all kinds of usless tests by Drs. that wouldn't listen to me and the only thing that worked was a chiro. Course falling off the roof 2 years ago next Feb. breaking 4 ribs and the collar bone on that side probably didn't help matters. First time I looked at it in the mirror discovered that the collar bone now over laps instead of being straight. The up side to is that I can buy my shirts at a seconds store the right shoulder is a good inch shorter than the left.

Looks really dumb.

DrH-Thats funny! They say that fish oil has better anti-inflammatory qualities than most over the counter meds. I just did a paper on it. Also try acupuncture. DH did that for his back and it helped. I know having little needles stuck into you is not the most appealing things but it does help. And it doens't hurt. If you can find fish oil in liquid it works better too. I take that for my hands on days like this and it really helps. I have arthritisis (long story) and my hands kill on days like this. It's gross to drink, but worth it.
Oh and had to share as everyone seems to be having ailments. I think I broke my foot this morning.
barnie.gif
I was hauling wood to the burning for the morning fire and dropped a log on the side/top of my foot. I cant bend my toes down now.

I cant believe it. They are also cold and numb. Not a good thing, but as much as I scold everyone who doesn't go to the doc, I'm not going for my foot either. They wont do anything. I'll go if it gets worse. Just thought I would share my stupidity for the day. Ok going to make oatmeal cookies, don't they sound good on a day like today?
Oh and WCc- Juneau and not a state park. Just google wild goose park, it will pop up.

Hey all thanks for the offer WiWc but I think I have a great flock with the birds I have now. I just ordered 2 silkies when I got the rest because the kids really liked them and after the first 2 days that was over as usual . I don't know if they can't see as well as the rest of my chickens or what but they were both allways getting seperated from the rest and raising a fit until I actually shoed them over to the rest of the flock and the one wouldn't go into the coop at night and she eventually disapeared the other was doing pretty good until she went missing.
Think I'm gona try trenching some power out to the coop before the ground freezes up its gona be a bear goin acrost the driveway though!

Well talk to ya later

Windy Afternoon to all....Hope I don't make anyone mad on this subject cd, but cats get along fine with chickens and aren't a threat at all. In over 30 years of raising poultry, I've never lost a chook to a cat. We have 5 here on the hill and many ferals that stop by the outside waterers for a drink and leave. I think you have another culprit to blame for your loss. Besides it's against the law to shoot any cat in Wi, so I would keep that in mind also.....If you don't actually see a cat grab a chook, I would look to the sky instead. Ok I'm done.

Let's hope the wind gets tired and goes away... I need to go hunting!

Afternoon everyone, boy the wind is sure going. DH had to go do repairs at a unit whose service door was ripped off it's hinges because of the wind and then on top of it, the wind slammed it into the side of the apartment building and the side of the garage plus broke the inner pane of glass on a unit-the tenant was all freaked out when she called him to tell him this happened to her(her garage door and unit). Of course he had to go get a new door but has to wait for the wind to die down and call the glass company in to fix the window. Then on top of it I got home to see that some of the sofit and trim is peeling off the peak on our house so all we are doing is picking up the pieces as they come off-dogs are a bit freaked out by the banging.

Another one of our birds just started laying last night- a Welsummer so now we have 6 laying! We also lost one of the older Blue Andalusian girls to impacted crop- she pigged out on grass that she could reach and didn't visit the grit feeder enough-our friend tried to help her out but to no sucess. Will have to watch that from now on.

The stories were funny!

Hope the wind dies down soon-out to check the sofit pieces again.

BigZ we got cats too and they have yet to hurt a critter well as far as chickens and ducks go. mice, yes LOL! they watch them and the chickens watch the cats closely. and why is it that people think we country folk NEED more cats? We get them dropped off here too. talk about annoying. we tried live trapping them but only caught our own cats.
lau.gif
NOW I didn't want to know what our cats would do to our chicks so we kept them covered.
chris we have a silkie that we have to take to the coop every night now. only cause that stupid roo wont leave her alone. we got 6 roos to like 35 hens. I can't decide which one to ummmm eat. I'm kind of waiting for one to make to wrong move against me!
big_smile.png
then it will be freezer camp.

this is what it's gonna cost me. $95 a month = $25 cash out of our pocket, $25 cash out of I guess you can call them sponsers? pockets, 6 dz eggs ($12), 1 whole chicken (6lbs=$12), and 3 hours of my time doing things she wants me to ($21) figured me time was at least worth $7 an hour?! I was thinking of saying i'll work for her for 1 hour. $21 an hour? why not she's charging me $25!

BYC we need a smilie that actually rolls its eyes!!

Ok this maybe a silly question but it's been bothering me so I have to ask. Will my girls go broody in the winter? They are laying like crazy and I'm loving it. Since they took the whole summer off, I figure they owe me. So I have a light to make them lay. Because they are laying will they then go broody? Also what should I do with the quail eggs? I'm thinking of doing deviled eggs with them for a Halloween party or just boiling them and calling them eye balls. Gross I know but, just getting into the spirt of things. Well have a great night everyone!

Morning All!!
Dr. Ha Ha..& Becky- I have heard that pectin is great for joints I plan on starting it on the next pay check. Also Apple Cider vinagar is good for stuff, nasty to drink but good for you
in sooo many ways.
I have my niece for the day at about 11 am, I love the fact SHE likes online games and one on the computer. Cuz the nurse is coming by too.
I have to go blanket 1 horse for the next few days... bleh.. poor horse.
There is a person on the Madison CL selling pairs of silkies...

I have one question on that.. do silkies need 1 roo and 1 hen each?? I tried to keep two roos and 3 hens...all silkies, and 1 frizzle polish bantam together...
The roosters fought. SO I sold one...They all seem happier...
