Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning Everyone! Looks like we're in for a wet stretch. Really don't want it! The crawl space is still sounding like a bathtub being filled. cd "tarp the yard'? or did you mean the chicken run? BL4 could believe that, if you knew Tim you wouldn't be surprised. BFF and I were talking about the attack on him and speculating on what to believe. He was attacked obviously but was it provoked? TO that's a beautiful dog! Hope she works out! I looked around yesterday and discovered that I had ALL the outside stuff done for winter. Don't think I've ever been this ready before. But still have wood to make would love to have less snow this year so as to get in the woods more. Bec that's so cool about the DD3 bet it's fun to watch! Get a pic I want to see too! Looks like today I'll get caught up on some Emails and and some snail mail letters. Need to get that letter to the editor done too. Better get to it.

My thought was, what the heck are the police doing? The guy was attacked and so of course he would be suspicious of anybody else who approached him the same way. I would have done the same thing he did. Nobody was hurt.

Anybody ready for Thanksgiving???? Hunting?????

And since I forgot;

Still wish I knew what you thought about the javas?
Welcome to the new folks . Glad you stopped by, and hope you visit often.
Good to see all the pics you people take the time to share. It's fun seeing everyones flocks.
I've been busy with makin wood and our annual church broasted chicken dinner that I'm ticket chairman of. Had to sit and sell tickets, and count all the $'s after the event yesterday. We served almost 500 folks, and the church women donated 75 home made pies....we ran out of pie...

so it was a busy day, for sure. Moved a couple deer stands for the opener, and have a couple more left to move into place. Won't be raking anymore dry leaves with the rain and late fall weather...glad I did what i did though.

Would like to pick some brains on winter watering. I have a 5-gal plastic waterer in the coop. I've been researching the different ways people keep water from freezing; my goal is something safe and as inexpensive as possible. I'm considering putting the waterer in the run under a heatlamp. I'm going to make a lean-to out of straw bales and sheet metal on the lee side of the coop and leave the popdoor open so they can have a relatively snow-free area outside, and move the water there. Could this work?

Or do I need to drop the $ on a metal waterer and heated base?
I'll be home nearly 100% of the time so I could take them fresh water every day, but the times we're out of town is the trouble. I don't want them out of water if we're gone 3 days, ya know? What works for you guys?

you need to drop the $, the heat lamp is to dangerous, and the heat base is a pain, and expensive, I use the all in one waterer that Fleet farm is now carrying, its been up-dated, the problems it used to have are fixed $33. just plug it in, even has a thermostat

BCC, how many gallons is that waterer? I couldn't find it on their website...is it for poultry or livestock in general?

I was concerned about the possibility of fire, but the lamp is the same one I used in the brooder (red bulb in reflector.) Is it still ok to use that for future chicks?

Hey everyone,

I have quail eggs that are due to hatch on Monday. Hopefully all will go well. Also I was wondering if anyone near me has any fertile test eggs for me? I'm hoping to try hatching some eggs that haven't been shipped so I can compare the results I get. I don't need anything fancy. My uncle will take anything I don't want and he isn't picky at all. As long as it lays an egg or makes his dinner he's happy. LOL! So if anyone has any eggs let me know! Thanks!
