Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

(last night) Just built a temp house out of bales of hay, always thought to but never tried, looks like it will work

the best part is we ran in to a couple who buys eggs from me, he had 25 bales of hay he wanted to get rid of. so for 3 doz of eggs and a chicken I found some hay.

I just got lucky, I was supposed to drive a bus load of wrestlers to Brillion today, they canceled, that's a first, sports generally go's no matter what.

keep warm, and snuggy. here comes the SNOW

Good morning! It is not bad out there today...so far!

I am sure it will get worse...or they are wrong and we will get NONE! Hey, it's happened before......I dont like to believe those weather forecasters until the event is actually happening.
That bread idea sounds good DrH! I might have to do that myself...maybe I can scare up a chuck roast out of the freezer and make some stew or soup to go with it. MMMM--maybe a plan? I also want to get those cookies thawed out and baked up too...might have some Christmas visitors that could get a few before DH eats them all up! Trying a new one this year; Cardamom Triangles. We will see.
BL4 I always find it amazing too that people who live here all year can forget how to drive in snow. That first one is always the most dangerous it seems. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE GUYS!

The puppies are barking in the downstairs room...I have 4 right now. No idea what they are, probably a lab cross. One is so cute though--all white with a black spot and black ears and nose. She is adorable when she looks up at you! (they will be up for adoption in 2 weeks...

BCC--how big is the hay structure that you built? Did you use plywood for the top, and are there roosts too? Do you think they will eat the hay and it will become a pile of rubble? My chickens LOVE hay! Good deal for the eggs and chicken BTW! I am looking for some straw to put around an outside enclosure that I have. Right now I have storm windows standing up around it and they seem to be warm enough...but straw would be better I think!

Well I guess I will see what else is happening around BYC...there sure is a bunch to read! Have a fantastic (and safe) day! Terri O

not real big, 2 high (on the side), 1 1/2 wide, 3? long. a 4x8 sheet a ply wood is the roof. when its free you don't get picky that's why the hay, I would have preferred straw. no roosts but a lg layer of hay on the floor. Oh the back is against the old milk house, for a wind break.

BCC that should work no wind, hay bottom and nice and cozy I would imagine. I went out and pulled the turkeys out of the tree this morn and put them in a coop. Drove my daughter to work and am fleshing a bear hide out this afternoon. It's not snowing here at the moment but they say it's comin

The Hay House sounds awesome!!! Sounds like you could just stretch some 2x2's or even bigger branches in it for roosts. That is a good idea for meat birds this summer. I had never thought of using hay bales. Thanks BCC!!

On another note, I am posting these boys Locally First. I have a young (5 months) Buff O Rooster and a Blue (gray) white crested polish Roo same age. Both are free or trade to anyone locally who wants them. Let me know. I have 4 Roos and these are the 2 DW and I have decided to go. If no takers they will both end up in freezer camp rather soon.

Get the fire going, keep some warm coffee or hot coco on, and enjoy the snow. Be good to each other!!!!!!

Looks like some of you guys already have snow this morning!

We don't have any yet, but they were saying later? Like 7ish? They said freezing rain before that but I don't see any. DH gets to work again tonight. Yay for snow!! BL4, I know how you feel on driving in the stuff. It's terrible! I like it much better when it's neatly piled on the SIDES of the road! People who have 4 wheel drive LOVE cutting me off and slamming on their breaks. HELLO! Just cause you can stop in a split second, doesn't mean I can! So I usually end up going fishtailing to the shoulder and cursing my mouth off!

Making venison stroganoff and venison soup today! Both in the slow cooker. Hope to break down that silverskin you can never seem to get off. I hope it's done in time for hubby to take a nice hot thermos of it with him! Plan to freeze it off in portions (the soup) and use for lunch next week. And that way if it snows again hubby can just plop it in is thermos and go! I've been slacking on making him things to eat when he goes out because i've been in clinicals. Actually, I haven't cooked a meal at all this week!

Hes been cooking, or we've just been throwing together things. When I get home at 5, and start falling alseep on the sofa by 7, I just don't want to spend those two precious hours tied up in the kitchen!

I should really run to to the grocery store but i'm just not feeling it. My soup needs carrots, and I'd much rather use fresh mushrooms than a nasty can of slimey canned mushrooms.

Raiquee both the strog and soup sound delish! You can fillet a lot of the "silverskin" off but you'll drive yourself nuts trying to get it all, slow cooker like your doing helps break it down. Take care of that man! He needs hot food and so do you. And sounds like you both need sleep. DA agree on the hay coop of BCC's design. Think I would lay down some plastic or something under the bales otherwise it's a B in the spring trying to get the frozen stuff up. cp I must have missed a post or forgot is it your bear? Cool Beans! Plenty of ice here and more on the way after the deep freeze coming. BFF said there was a guy driving on Lake Sherwood 2 days ago. What an idiot a lot of thin spots out there yet. Personally like 12"+ before taking that risk. Had 7" of white stuff out there when I went to visit the coop around 9 it had let up and now into round 2 betting there will be around 9-12" before it's done. Really itchin to fire up the lil mule! Might just do it yet but waiting on the rising bread.

It's about 40 degrees out right now and the snow is melting fast. Guess it's going to clear out in preparation for the snow and bitter cold to come. The chicklets are out pecking the exposed ground. Enjoy it while you can, girls. I've only gotten 1 egg in the last 4 days with the cold and them staying in, eating less, etc. So today I go to check and bonus, a big beautiful egg!....however....it was laid right up against the door, so splat. BOO. I think it's a conspiracy since I decided 4 days ago to collect some eggs to attempt to hatch. Hence, 1 egg and one omelet in 4 days. Harrumph.

DrHaHa ya it's my bear I'll be working on and my brother just called so off I go icky, and greasy. It's a pety nice one weighed over 300 lbs. But I am not a big pic taker so only got a few pics on a trailer.

cp that's a nice sized bear! Eatin size! Can almost smell a roast with fixins from here. After I posted remembered that you got one. Sorry your on your own! Always easier and more fun with help. Hurley just stuck a depthOmeter in the snow averages 8" at 27* still comin down and blowin pretty good. Begining to think winter is here to stay for a while.
