Spring better hurry up! I'm sick of all of this snow and I want my girls to be able to run around outside. It's sad to see them all cramped up in the winter...

Are you only looking for hatchery chicks? If you aren't I have a bunch of chicks right now that are a few weeks old including Cuckoo Marans, an Easter Egger, and a bunch of others. I also have some older hens about to start laying that I don't want but don't have the heart to kill. I have bantam cochins, a brown leghorn, and others.
Well if anyone else needs any new birds. I am really trying to cut down my flock and only keep the ones I really want because it is costing too much time and money keeping birds I don't want. Since all my birds have to be kept indoors it takes A LOT of work to keep so many birds. I will be pretty much giving away a bunch of started chicks and point of lay pullets. So if anyone is interested just PM me.
Just sent you a PM
I'm just gonna jump in here and ask a question, goth, your chickens are in the house?, if someone buys them, will they not have to also keep them in the house? till spring at least? reason I ask is are they not used to the warmth and dont have the right "stuff" to keep them warm outside?!? right? probably dont matter cause some are still to young to go outside anyways.
dont forget to post in the bash thread, I know it's still early! later, I gotta catch up on the laundry!

Small world! These must be SunDevil Curlies!! I know Grace from the world of dog shows
She is one fantastic kid!
Good morning! Yes--they are SunDevils! It is a small world! I knew Jen way back when we were 4 years old...who would of thought we would still be friends nearly 5 decades later....man, that makes us really old!
Here is what I received from "management.":

So hopefully they will know where the banner is and can get it to me in time! It certainly looks like we need a new pic (with IDs) we have so many new people!!! I LOVE it! Raimnel, I will write up a thing about the White Elephant exchange so you can copy and paste to the message in the meet-up section. It would also be helpful for those of us that post in other places on the forum to put the URL of the meet in their signature line so others that havent found this wonderful board can pop in and join us. You can copy it right off mine if you like! Let's get a TON of people at this event so we have to use a wide angle lens for the pic! I am so excited! (can you tell?)
Well, DH filed for unemployment today so please keep your fingers crossed! I hear ya about this winter stuff getting done! The wind out there this morning is really something...the dogs have cabin fever too. I am sure they are getting tired of just lying around...we need to get to the dog park!
The last rescue pup is at the shelter ready to be adopted now so the Mom is ready to be spayed and start on heart worm treatment...then she will go up for adoption. I hope she does OK--she is a sweety!
My client canceled for this morning--too snowy and blowy for her to go out. I am glad, now I can clean my house. Dh says he is going to the activity center to work out on the eliptical machine...good--I can get plenty of exercise right here vacuuming! (and so could he)
Better get to it, I can see the horses from my window and they are looking longingly at the back door! Guess they are ready for breakfast!
Have a fantastic day! Terri O
(PS) Even I watched the games this weekend! DrH--hope you get your machine fixed!

yup,all birds from ,goth, will need to be either kept in the house till spring or a building heated to at least 50 degrees, they are not acclimated to the cold, the sudden change will kill them.
Well I am thinking that your chickens are "chicken"!
My girls go out in the snow, rain, wind...whatever! They dont seem to have a problem with the weather at all! They like to go in and out all day...out especially when I throw out scratch and treats!
I am glad that you posted the bit about chickens that are in the house have to stay in until it is at least 50* outside--good question Mags and good answer BCC. That is why I always hesitate to bring any in that are ailing...you gotta keep them in then! I have ended up with a "house roo" in the past this way...I am so thankful to him too (RIP Charlie) 'cause he is the reason I found BCC!
Now my being the "crazy chicken lady" no longer matters because I have company! I love you guys....
As for everyone that was asking about the chickens. I don't think moving them outside would be a problem unless they are obviously still too young. My uncle has taken about 10 birds from me so far and put them outside and they do great. I try to keep my chickens in the most "outside" type environment possible. They have a large room in my basement that they live in and it does not have any heat going to it. I'm not sure on the exact temperature in the room but I do know that it gets cold enough for the waterers to freeze. Also none of my birds are very old. The oldest I currently have are only about 22 weeks. So I am sure most are young enough to adapt. If anyone is interested in any of the chickens I would be willing to start transitioning those specific birds to the outside temp by moving them outside into my garage. I just hate to have to kill a bunch of pretty hens that haven't even started to lay yet. They are still too small to eat so they would be butchered just because they take up space and eat.

OK, I don't get it, if your birds are in the house, your basement, how can the water freeze? don't your pipes freeze? you need to have a basement at at least 50 degrees so no frozen pipes
I'm i missing something
22 weeks is point of lay, full feathered, pullets not chicks, if you put them out side suddenly, the trama is not going to be a good thing
Morning To All... Good Luck with the tractor Doc. Hope it was just locked up. Take it easy on that old girl....
Really cracked us up about the singing when properly lubricated. Yep really coming down here too!
That's really nice of you to offer the free birds Goth, to mags. Prolly a little early to expect chicks to be shipped without them arriving chilled or DOA. This is the time of year when all the hatcheries are blamed for dead chicks arriving, while the PO is usually the one who is at fault. Boxes of chicks left on unheated loading docks and placed in unheated trucks usually is to blame.
Thanks again for all the neat pics. Easy does it out there today. Be Safe... ~ bigzio
