Yea. I really wish Ideal had the breeds I wanted available. I could easily meet the $25 minimum but they don't have what I want.

I think I might try talking to the country store in town and see if she is putting in any orders and if she can add a few for me. The problem is a lot of places that have all the breeds I want need me to order 5 of each kind I want and I only want 1 of each if they are sexed chicks or 2 if I have to get straight run.

GothChick I think there is a place that will send less than 25 chicks if you pay extra for shipping for them to include a heat pad with the birds. But I cant remember the name of the hatchery. I think it my have been mypetchicken.com I think the minimum order was 3 if i remember right......

Here is a link for mypetchicken.com to find out what the minimum order for your zipcode is. My minimum order of large breeds is 6. bantams 8.

Also, Cackle has a minumum of 15 if that gets you a little closer to the right number.

Yea I've looked at MPC but shipping was CRAZY. I would be better off ordering 25 and giving away the rest. It would be cheaper also MPC doesn't have all he breeds. I wish I could find someone with hatching eggs with the breeds I want but the ones I want are too expensive. I am trying to find at least one female Coronation Sussex, Blue Laced Red Wynadotte, Speckled Sussex, Black Copper Marans, Araucana, Ameraucana, (but a few more EEs will work too) and possibly a few others. I think a Turken would be fun to have too.

Have you looked at Strombergs?

Also, this one is out of Hudson, WI which is close to Minneapolis. He is on BYC too. Maybe you can work something out with them for Marans and Coronation sussex?

I have gotten eggs from Nate at Shamrock Farm, very nice guy to work with, we ordered Welsummer eggs and we're very happy with the chicks we hatched out- they are now old enough and just started laying eggs.

Thanks for the tips! I also remembered that Bargain has all the breeds I think. I plan to contact her and see what she has available and prices. I had bad luck with my last BCMs from her. 0 out of 14 hatched and most didn't even start developing, but I am always willing to try something at least twice before passing judgement. So maybe

she will have what I am looking for and it won't cost me an arm and a leg. I don't really NEEEEED more chickens but I would love to have a few more. My darn chickens I currently have STILL aren't laying anything. Dang freeloaders.

I'm planning to order Easter Egg hens, Speckled Sussex, Black Australorp and Columbian Wyandottes for us. One of my co-orderers want Barred Rocks, and I recently found out that you CAN tell them apart from the Black Australorp chicks (they have a spot on their heads), so we will get those too.

Since I live in town, I really can't deal with straight run chicks. . .

cottage grove?? my oldest sister lives just North of the interstate..

Dr HAHA, email me at ( [email protected] ) and I will get the instructions right off to you..

I plowed snow today.. I really didn't have to, but it was so nice outside I didn't want to go inside.. You know winter is too long when +20F feels "nice" LOL

somebody asked how those jungle fowl do in the cold? My hens and rooster are the first out of the coop and the last to go in.

I get a kick out of them in the summer time.. unlike a normal chicken, they do not walk around a large puddle of water.. they will walk theigh deep right through it.. I will try to get a photo of it. Mine are called Ukokei.. which translates to Uko Kei..LOL

Hey guys...been "everywhere"n the internet lately except here! I have just been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and am reading all I can to try and alleviate the symptoms. The more I read the more I say, "Aha!" The biggest problem I am up against is that my favorite beverage now seems to be off limits. At least my chosen brand anyway! DANG!

BCC--you still havent said how much the birds are worth for sale. The same as a "normal" chicken? (about 6 bucks?)
Or does this depend on where you are located? I can usually get 5-6 dollars for old hens and small birds. THe other day I got $8 for prime young roos that were BIG. I am just wondering if it is worth my while to get some youngstock or eggs from you to raise...

I think my quail hatch has been severely compromised! My incubator was at 97 today when I got home from work!!! I have no idea why--I keep turning it up and it cant get that warm. I am emailing you next Jim to get the particulars on what you have done! Also I was going to mention those foam coolers that stuff is shipped in when you did DrH. I saw some at St Vinnie's today for a buck. Nice and big too...I was thinking about picking it up for a brooder...IF I ever am successful at hatching any eggs!

OK--I need to go and tend to my split pea soup...MMM sure smells GOOD! Terri O
