I have a broody with eggs hatching today! I have the coop shut up for the day but the other chickens aren't going to put up with that for long. I hope she's smart enough to keep them inside and not in the snow.

Good hatching day to you all! I have a pip and a rocker so far! The hatch date is tonight at 8pm. I think I did OK! But I am NOT counting my chickens before they are hatched....

What about you ODrH? ANything in your bator yet? BBP--cool that you have a broody with new ones already...mine has been on for 6 days and is sitting tight. I did try my neighbor's method and shut her up in a box--it worked! She has stopped going into the nest where she wants to hatch and has adopted the eggs where I want her to hatch! You guys are lucky...no work for you today! But I guess not so lucky in the messy snow department. We have 32 here and rain--just a dusting on the ground from the night.
Well--everyone stay safe and warm--DrH--I sure wouldnt mind a couple of girls to go with my SLW roo. His hen disappeared last fall sometime...although maybe I should just concentrate on the ones I have now...WHY do chickens have to be so darn addictive? Have a fantastic day! Terri O

TO your on the list!!!! Send me a pic of your boy if you would, just want to see how he compares to Buster. BBP hope mama does well with her brood! Hope your hatch goes well too TO! Anyone have about 20 yards of crushed granite in their pocket? The driveway needed some fill but after plowing it's gonna need a lot more. Did the best I could to not scrape it off but you just can't help it sometimes. Made the mistake of trying to plow a pile off the packed driveway, had to get a board to put behind the front wheels to back up after nearly getting stuck. Nice ruts though if I do say so myself. Only about a foot deep.

Yup BCC had both here I see on the news lightning started a fire somewhere. Jim that sucks about the painless pain! Always liked the Dr. saying your gonna feel a little prick or this might sting a little. My A$$! Would love to turn the tables on them sometime. OK this is gonna hurt a little and don't move or you will surely die. Just hope that what you endured was worth it! Think I'll bate as many swl eggs as I get in a week just to get enough. I'm sooo eggcited!

I got thunder, lighting, and rain. We got a few spots of sleet but mostly rain with more rain, then wind with more thunder and lightening. No power outages here either, but I had towels all set to go to cover the incubators and chicks to keep the warmth in. The candles and lighters were all set up and ready as well.

Good hatching to those of you waiting the endless wait!!!

We had lots of thunder, lightning and snow too. Pretty Cool. Blew the first 6-8 off, waiting until about 8-9pm to hit it again. The grader hasn't come by yet, prolly won't till it's all done. Oh well, snow day=good day.

Moved the rabbits into the garage, they look much happier now. We feel much better as well. Everything is now cozy and happy again. Take care all.

good afternoon, still waiting for a lull in the snow to make my first pass with the tractor. my eye seems to be a bit light sensitve.. so it should be a real treat outside with the snow..LOL
at least the sun isn't shining..

I tossed 36 eggs that didn't hatch.. half of them were sloshers, I didn't crack any open.. I could smell a stinker, but I couldn't tell which one for sure..

I transferred 5 eggs to the hatcher.. 1 goose, 4 turkey..

DrH, does your tractor have a hydraulic bucket? Mine used to have a trip bucket but I built the full hydraulics except down pressure on the arms.. I would be stuck all winter if I could not push myself backwards with the bucket..

Eggs! Technically they aren't due until tomorrowish, but nope, nothing yet. No stinkers, anyway. Rock solid temp and humidity, come on eggies!

Jim, ouch, sounds like they got a bad block, would have thought they'd have numbed you up entirely. SHOULDN'T have felt a thing. :p

Nope Jim just a front blade that I designed and built. Made the arms from 3/8" walled square tubing pushing from the rear axle and the blade from 1/4" reinforced plate, plenty of weight there to get down to the surface, but too much for muck. I did drill holes for skid plates but never made them. Nearly made a bucket with down force but ran out of time before retiring. My ex- supervisor made the comment that that'll never work. Guess what it works great, that's why I left. Not a clue. Never had never will have. Just sad.

They are moving along (a very little) Another pip that is bigger than the first and the first is still the same size. THe rocking egg is still rocking....I think this whole thing goes right along with the saying, "a watched pot never boils!" I keep going beck with the little flashlight to look, again and again and again and again....yup--it's gonna be a looong day! Terri O

(PS)--my chickens were pretty startled when they all ran out this morning...it is miserable out there!
