Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good (sunny) morning! Man I am glad to see that orb! Was thinking I was going to have to go and get some happy meds if it didnt come out soon. Five chicks out this morning! I have black, black with yellow chin and front, yellow and chipmunk!Cant tell if there are any pips anymore; they have rolled the eggs every which way. Next time I am trying in a carton to see if that is more "orderly." The dogs are very interested in the cheaping box covered with a blanket! My BC is sitting with her had cocked to one side and just willing it to fall off the table! Not gonna happen...unless the JRT decides to get up there and help it fall! These new chicks are way louder than the chicks from Jim! They seem perfectly happy where they are...I am wondering if I can integrate these new ones with those? How old did you say they were Jim? Are they 3 weeks now or only 2? I am not sure if I asked you or not. I think they are too little to go downstairs with the 2 month olds...I might have to rig something up.

It sure is chilly out there today! Looks like 21 or so. ODrH--it was you or me that made this happen with our removal of the heated buckets anad such! I am not looking forward to going out and putting them back in. The barn will be easy cause I just unplugged them all at the source; but outside I took the heaters out and put them into storage. Maybe I will just carry water for a day or two. Oh yeah, I might have to; I left my hose out too.

Working on shoveling out this house today...probably should grocery shop too, and the birds need cleaning AGAIN...never ends does it?
Have a fantastic day...I need another cup of coffee! Terri O

(PS) Jim and Carol's DH--I hope your respective aching parts feel better soon!
DrH--way to go on that bathroom stuff...what is the next project? I want to look forward to you doing it!

ODrH--I think you and I and Melissa should get together and then we can pick your brain about all things veterinary! We could drink lots of coffee and have a grand time!

That you get the best house and land DKV!
OK--that is all I remember that I wanted to say...over and out.

OMG! When it rains chicks it pours them!!!! Ideal Hatchery called this morning and told my order that I wanted to be notified on when the chicks were available was going to be ready to be shipped the 30th. This order was originally going to be shipped April 13th, then they called to have moved it up to the 6th. Yeah for me! Right?!? Welllllllllllll, Monday I'm picking up 25 chicks from Abendroth's for a seminar on backyard chickens my dh is giving. Then Ideals chicks get here either thurs or friday. Then Privetts chicks get here the 1st of April. 75 chicks in a span 5 days! Yikes! Man! I'm gonna need more brooders! I had it all spaced out and a plan in place to handle the munchkins, and now I'm going to be visiting Blain's this weekned for brooder fixin' supplies!
Was I really going through Fuzz Butt withdrawl only last week!?!

nice day everybody must be outside..

I just got an email from a guy looking to buy some quail. about 20 of them.. I am waiting for a reply as to what kind ?

anybody want to sell some? how much $$$ ??

Hey all...not only do I have chicks popping out of eggs I had a brand new baby lamb this morning! THen while I was getting a towel to pick him up and take him inside there came another one! So I have twins (boy and girl) and the mom is doing good too! Got them into a stall with my friend's help and they are happy. I think I still have to trim some wool off of her for "easy access" cause she has a big skirt that didnt shed this year.

For chicks I have 6 and one still zipping. I dont see any other pips right now...the button quail seem to be a bust...dontknow what I do wrong with them. I will let them incubate a little longer and see if I get anything.

Off to run a 4H meeting! Later...Terri O

Congrats! I once babysat a week old lamb who's mom rejected him and they were bottle feeding him. They wanted to go for a couple of hours on New Year's, so we took the little one for them over night... we all had a good time, but my goat fell head over heels, stood looking over the edge of her stall with a look of utter wonder on her face, making funny little noises at it!

the secret with those quail is to set way more than you think you need.. I used to get about 50% hatch with them.. That was when I was just starting out.. I think I could do better now.. My quails gave me a lot of clears..

I always enjoyed hatching them, though.. they come out of the egg almost at a dead run..LOL and they can hide under a postage stamp..

I am so happy the sun came out today and melted all the ice off the roads! This morning was once again rougher than a cob!!!!! Thankfully 41 was in much better shape than 10!

TO, I agree; I would love to sit and have java with you and ODrH.....

I hope everyone is getting decent hatch rates!!!

Nothing else to report here; just tired from stressful driving I guess.

Oy, *stretch*, just got out of a 2 hour emergency surgery here at the end of my appointment day. Dog with a septic abdomen, perforated his duodenum right at the pyloric sphincter (outflow from the stomach). Bad, bad, bad area to pick to perforate, often not fixable due to the essential fragile structures entering the intestine right there. We may have gotten lucky, was able to resect the damaged tissue and seal the defect ...hopefully for good, but it's a 50-50 shot at best right now. Long day, time to go round, pack up, and head home. Got to see how many chickies I need to pull from the incubator!
