good morning all, the first guinea has hatched.. It is a white one..

we are in for some March weather for about a week, seems cold, but still better than minus 20F..

Dave is going to have to build a new coop for his chicks if everybody is going to move into the first one..

I sort of thought of cleaning out a breeder pen, but that cold wind might make me change my mind.. I was kind of waiting for warmer nights to put the delawares in there.. half of them are sleeping in there as it is.. their choice..

soon I will have to expand the brooder where I have the 3 and 4 week old chicks in.. they are quite well feathered out.. quite a few of them are barred rocks.. to me every one of the total of 38 look like roosters,,,,,, time will tell...

Good morning people! I just had a nice piece of leftover "oat/chocolate" thing I made for desert last night. Sure is nice to have a sweet with coffee once in a while. I think I have missed my occasional donut! MMMM, I really want another piece--maybe I will eat a banana.

Baby/inside birds are fed and watered and I have my timer going to tell me when it is time to get off of here and so the outside...otherwise I get out too late and cant get to work on time! Guess what? I have baby finches too! Last night when I was cleaning them I heard lots of ruckus in that cage and sure enough...saw little baby mouth sticking up in the air making the loudest "I'm HUNGRY!" noise! Very cute. I wish I could get my camera in there to take a pic for you guys. He has a little bald head with feathers sticking up all over it. (and the biggest mouth!)

Today I am cooking at Trinity and then doing a dog walk. Might go straight out there so I have some uninterrupted time here at home to get something accomplished. I have a hard time doing things in bits and pieces. I guess that is why I dont get anything done...that is all I have! Gotta get back to the babysteps--15 minutes at a time habit I think!

I have decided that I need to go and get a propper feeder for the chickens in the basement. They tip over any dish I put in there and when I use a pie plate they climb in and scratch it all out! I think that there is more food on the ground than shavings right now. THye are growing up so fast! The wheaten Ameracaunas from H&R are looking so pretty! They are getting amazing muffs on their cheeks. THe roo reminds me of a bald-faced horse...his face is all whitish/yellow with a dark body. I have been calling him Mr Baldie! (what a great name hey?)

Cant wait for the pics of your chick TV DrH! Did you ever put knobs on or was that somebody else? It is so hard to remember! OH--there goes my timer...guess that means it is time to go to work! Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

(PS) one more thing....when are you moving into David's coop Jim? I need to know so I get there a week ahead so I can pick the bigger half with the nicer views!

It seems unreal to me (sitting here in 80 deg plus) that it's still so cold up there! I grew up near Chicago so I know cold, but after spending 18 months here... not looking forward to long winters and cold, wet springs and chilly falls... guess DH's gonna have to honor his word to get me battery powered socks and them pricey long johns that he swears will keep even me warm! I'm not so sure they will however, heck I'm chilly if it's 70 and theres a breeze!

in a year from now, you will be just like the rest of us, one day in January when the temp climbs out of the minus readings , you will say, "what a nice warm day we had today".. .

jvls uh... don't hold your breath! Even as kid it was rare for me to venture out in the cold. MY toes and fingers don't thaw out until first part of June up north and by mid September I'm freezing again! But I like to think I'll toughen up a little bit.

I didn't read all, but DrH I like that name but THIS yigget is a GIRL, I can't name her that! lol really IDK lol TO, I know that easy way out of dealing with this chick

Shiocton is FLOODING! colwitz gas station is putting up sand bags! they haven't had to do that since they redid (redone?) the whole ditch thing right next to them. they got one driveway that is flooded. we got the stugeon viewing area (bamboo bend).... almost under, some of the walk way is under

later

Good afternoon all.
I am here at my niece's, she is home sick today. I had to go to the Midwest horse fair to get a saddle my client/friend wanted...
I then saw a cheapo wintec that needs some TLC, and a few other things that I know he needed like a grazing muzzle for his pony,
and a gallon of endure fly spray that you mix..
SCORE!!!

I am going tomorrow, but will be with a group.
My poor niece wants to go, but I know her mother will veto it due to her being or feeling sick today.
Any hoo.
off to watch Sponge bob.
Carol

Carol, watching Sponge Bob ?? on purpose??

I just got bator #2 going.. holding at 99F .. I took a little extra time and made another automatic humidifier pan. now I am waiting for the hum% to stabilize.. I have 25 assorted eggs waiting to go in..

I answered a craigs list ad last night for somebody wanting somebody to hatch some eggs for them.. typically,, no response from them.. why do people do that ??

thank you Dave, that ceramic heater saved the day.. the chicks in the brooder managed to break the heat bulb, but the ceramic I had for a back-up kept them warm enough all night..

TO, I use an old 8" cast iron kettle for feeding the brooder chicks .. It is heavy so they cannot tip it over,.. I fill it only 1/2 full so they do not scratch the feed out.. they have to climb inside to eat, but they would do that anyhow..

wow, hum% is 56%.. opened a vent.. might end up even opening another one..
