Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Things come back to me slowly sometimes. I HATE the word thing! You type it and look back and it doesn't look right then retype and retype. By the end you were right the first time and can't believe it's actually spelled like that. From then on it sticks with you and you ? every time! Stupit english language! WCc good job on sittin the niece! neice nycie.... And good score I guess! raim think that came from an old cartoon. Will E an army buddy that lives in IN. that's from there. I've been in that station a few times myself. Hope the water goes away, know the feeling. TO congrats on the baby finches have seen them before their so tiny! I think it was WCc or maybe ODrH that actually put knobs on theirs. Mine are just drawn on but seem to work just fine. Everything is ready to go waterer, feeder, tv. I keep staring at the eggs waiting for one to move, sometimes I think I do......

Has anyone given day old chicks Poly vi Sol w/o iron? Have 2 chicks that hatched out with spraddle legs and someone recommended using this. How much per quart of water?

Home today holding down the couch, DS(6) was sick at the begining of the week and now I am- have the chills and running a temp too! DH decided to come home early to help me out.

Think he didn't want to finish cleaning the open unit by himself

For our older chicks, we use a roaster pan and they hop in but don't kick the food out.

Tried to introduce our 1 Andalusian baby(1 week old) to the 1 day old Marans chicks so that my friend can decied what she wants to do with her 7 white leghorns and New Hampshire Red chicks that her neighbor gave her.(the neighbor is a teacher and hatched them out a school). The Andalusian chick wanted nothing to do with the Marans babies-not mean or anything to them-just wanted out- so we put it back with the other group!

Carol hope your niece feels better!

Hi again--I am home for a little bit in between jobs and should be making dinner or doing laundry or some other job that I dont want to do...instead I am on BYC!

I figure I need a break. Guess I oughta wear some cement shoes to take that dog for a walk today--man, the wind is just whipping around my house! I dont like wind much...it makes me feel nervous.
So guys why dont you just activate the spell check feature on your computer and then when you misspell it has squiggly red lines under the word and you can right click, look and redo it? Way easier than working your brain so hard I tell ya!
I hope you feel better soon H&R. That is really great of your DH to come home early...have him make supper too!

I am going to put my head down for 15 minutes and nap...my eyes are cloooooosing.....Terri O

I have one built into my internet browser - I don't think Internet Explorer has a spell check, but Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome (which is what I use - I LOVE my Google Chrome browser!) have it built in.

Good Afternoon All!
I went to the Mid West (Mid state?) Horse Fair today. Good gravey was it croweded! All I wanted to get were some really special horse treats to send to my horse back in Cali, but I could not find any. I have to be honest though it was like total sensory overload so I did not look overly hard. I did however take a break from halls backed with people and took a spin around the Breeds Barn. I've decided my next horse will be a Norweign Fjord. They are quite spiffy.

I was very proud of myself for not spending a dime there. I know in my horse riding days I would have spent oodles of cash on stuff I did not need. Now, not so much. BUT I was thinking that if this was the Mid West Chicken fair, I'd have been broke!!!

I filled up my truck to get there and spent $98.21.

I need my Fjord horse...it'd be cheaper to ride then drive my truck!

The chicks are are comfy with their little brooder lamps on and the quail have a heat lamp too. Those are sure spoiled quails....quail-i? They so could careless when people are around and they sure know what the feed scoop looks like. They sure are odd little creatures....I need to take a pic of them to show them to y'all.

Well, I'd best be off...the dogs are hungry and glaring at the computer!!

Cheers!

got bator #2 all settled down except the humidity is still at 43%. I have all the vents open. I wanted to run this one at about 35%. I might have to make a plate to cover over part of the pan ..

27 mixed eggs set. 2 goose, 8 guinea, 7 barred rock, and 10 turkey.

Annie found a duck on a nest in the garage.. might as well let her be..she is the white headed one that I did not want eggs from anyhow.. this way she will not be laying any eggs for awhile.. a goose on a nest behind the garage, and a chicken in one of the nests in the coop..

Must have had a hell of a rooster fight in the bachelor pad last night,, one of the wyandottes was dead this morning..

a second guinea hatched this afternoon. another white one.. one guinea egg left to go.. I can't see the date on it through the glass..

Extra Windy Afternoon All... Thanks for the congrats on the sucessful hunt. That's funny about hunting barnyard turkeys TO!

In regards to the wry neck raimnel The chicken health handbook states it's a genetic defect caused by a recessive gene that shows up when 2 birds that carry the gene are bred. Wry neck, resulting from curvature of the spine occurs as the bird grows, and is particularly common among brown leghorns. It usually happens to a related group of birds and does not affect their ability to drink. These should never be used for breeders.

We were down your way today....through shiocton to pick up a used swing set for out at camp. Yep the water is high this year.
We saw some pretty roo's on 76 north of shiocton on the way back. Really windy pulling a loaded trailer.

Nice picks of the peeps....hope the hatches go well for all. Don't forget to enjoy Fish Fry Friday!

Later... ~ bigzio

so Dr Ha ha, Are you going to stay up all night to monitor the chicks?
It feels like winter this evening, further north, they are supposed to get snow, Ick

Well I typed a nice long reply and *poof* it disappeared! Man, I hate that...Jim I use Firefox but when I used IE I thought I had a spell check on their too. It has been a while. I guess Google it and you will find your answer!

My daughter thinks I am going to die from a blood clot, guess I better start taking aspirin hey? I only had pain one night while sleeping...just the sheet rubbing on my legs hurt them!
I havent taken care of the chickens yet tonight--it is blowing really hard out there and I DONT want to go out at all. I was really glad that I wore my Carhart coat, mittens and hat to walk the lab today. We got caught in the rain/sleet/hail right around 3pm. I was so cold and wet by the time I got her back home...she wasnt too happy either! I think she is afraid of thunder and rain. (maybe all labs are?) We had one at the shelter that took out brick block and chain link to escape during one storm...someone had to take him home at night after that if we were expecting a storm.
My incubator has been holding a steady 99.4! About time hey? I hope I didnt kill the eggs by incubating at 100 (or more) for the first half! The thermometer that came with the bator is 4 degrees low according to the three other ones I put in there! I will have to raise the humidity in the next week...hatch day is one week from tomorrow! Sure I hope I do better than the last time!

I hope everyone is snug in their houses tonight! Sweet dreams--Terri O

(PS) Try to get some sleep DrH!
