TO, thanks for posting pics they are sooooo cute. And thanks for the input on the Jungle Fowl. I hope she is a layer, guess only time will tell.

I am so very green on the whole chicken subject. Everyone here is so helpful. What would I do without all of you ??

Well just finished the last layer on the jello dish and part way through dying eggs with the kids, just waiting for the last group to finish cooking, then onto cleaning out the chick brooders since they are in the kitchen and will be there yet tomorrow....

Jim at what age can you determine if the turkey is a hen or a tom? Ours are the Bronze and White meat turkeys and will be 8 weeks old May 7th? Last year we had 2 hens and 6 toms. DH is wondering if this year it's the other way around!

H&R I have Royal Palm turkeys and we can not tell what sex they are until they are mature, I have never had any other kind.. not much help, I'm afraid..

last year was the year for males in all species.. let's hope this year is for females..

Sue'J' So far my Ukokkei are just like the rest of the chickens.. Mild towards each other and to us.. The rooster is actually tamer than he two Delaware roosters..

carol, that is nasty about the horse.. I see a lot of them for sale on craigs list with photos.. some of them look like they should be put down.. people do not realize that a horse is a full time job, not some animal that can fend for itself..

I found an exhausted pigeon in my driveway today. Its banded and from what I can tell from the codes on the band its from a club in Louisiana. I've tried calling (disconnected #) and I've emailed the club and haven't heard anything yet. I fed it and its resting. Do I just let it go in the morning or should I try harder to contact the owner? Its a very nice bird. My kids love it.

Terri-those chicks are toooooo cute! I love when they gobble up their food then proceed to pass out in the food dish! Your will power is alot stronger then mine! I would have had those chicks out of the bator way before you did! My will power sucks.

Dave-your chicks are sure adorable! They look girly to me! You can get poultry leg bands or those little colored zip ties to use as leg bands to help keep the chicks all sorted out. The zip ties and leg bands have to watched thought to make sure that as the chicks grow, the bands don't get to tight so they need to be changed when they are getting snug.

Well, the swap was fun and I got rid of all the quail!! YEAH!!!! *doing a happy dance* One young lady took all 22 of them. She breeds quail so they will go to a nice farm and reproduce. I'm thinking about hatching some more to sell again.

The left over Seminar Chicks all got sold together which was nice since they were all buds, and they got to go home with 4 of their Orloff buddies too.

I did come home with 10 Orloffs, but I took 26 or 28. I lost count! They drew quite a bit of looks and the guys especially seemed to really like the hawk like look they have. One young man actually knew what they were! He used to show them so we got to talk Orloff. It was fun seeing peoples reaction to a rare breed and one the especially is so distintive! They all went to homes that were adding different types of chickens to their exhisting flocks. I would not sell only one chick, so I lost a few sales, but I just wont sell "A" chick. To many years of enforcing a two chick minimum at our feed store.

So, that leaves me with 35 chicken bodies down from 65 ish. I have more to sell so that count should go down. I decided to keep my TSC chciks. The "Chickzilla's" as I call them are very sweet and they "helped" me pick sale chicks last night from the huge brooder pen they were all in. So know, I just have to decide on the ones I want to keep. It's so tough tring to decide how many to keep at this point but I want to keep it to a small flock.
So, now the chick TV is empty and I have one little brooder with the barnyard and banty peeps. I'll move them into the TV tomorrow. Then Dh can have his computer room back. Atleast unitl the pheasant's hatch. Yeah...pheasants.....*sigh*

Well, dh is hungry so off to dinner! If I dont make it babk tonight...Happy Easter everyone! Enjoy you day tomorrow!!!

BBP I would give the bird some more rest and time for the owner to contact you...being Easter some folks are gone for a day or two.

Hey Jim, I thought you traded a bunch of pullets for cockerals last year....what the heck? Maybe that was just a dream?

Good luck with the new hatches. I'm worried about more peeps than housing...hate to have some homeless ones.

Nice job ODH... some of you really have some nice building skills... I really wondered to if the youngen actually backed them all in proper? Pretty high top shelf... nice park job and a window to rib!

Yikes.....no turkey today for rick. Called in a nice tom that was a borderline shot...rick said it was to far for him to make the shot before they turned and left the area... tomorrow our other friend that lives next door to rick is gonna make the ride up and try and call one closer.

I'm up at 4 tomorrow to help cook breakfast for the congregation. I'm gonna be cracking 50 doz eggs and doing the scramble, then frying with ham. Once I said I would help years ago, it seems like for sure I'll be doing this til the end. Workers are few and far between....

Hey guys!!!

I did pop! Boy did I pop!! I wasn't due until 28th, but after several ultrasounds the doctor decided it was better to have baby out early as his tummy started measuring small! They told me he'd be about 5lbs 14 oz, but lo and behold he came out a 6lb 7ozer! I got to have the epideral this time, wow is all I can say! I slept through my contractions, woke up feeling nauseated, when they checked me he was there and 4 pushes later he was out! 5 hours of labor

Most of it slept.

Hunter is a wonderful little boy, all he does it sleep sleep sleep! In fact, me and DH have to wake him up otherwise he won't wake up to eat! He eats good when we wake him, but he'd totally sleep through the night if we didn't wake him.

In other news, I planted onions, and will be putting out radishes, carrots, spinach, red leaf lettuce, sugar snap peas and maybe a few other things today and tomorrow.

And DH got a job working in Sussex, so now we can really put the plans in motion on moving!
