Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have used the Cascade already.. I made a batch that tasted like Grolsch.. quite by accident.. I do not keep real good notes.. probably will never duplicate that recipe again..

Hey all!

TO) Actually it's the VILLAGE of Farmington, which is over by the lake...but I know there is a Farmington out by you too! But that wouldn't make my commute to Sheboygan any shorter

BL4) Oh yeah, if we want to continue with the house, we would be making VARIOUS phone calls, not only for that, but also to the village & county to make sure we can have chickens and other livestock. I know a lot of people have moved into places saying horses are welcome, but they can't have other livestock. WTH is that? So we would be really careful. Plus, we would want to know whats in that river behind the house (as far as fish), whats in the lake across the street (as far as fish), if it -is- swamp, just how swampy it gets after rain/winter. Even if possible, filling in 6 acres sounds like a lot of extra $. I mean and two of those acres we want to plant. We can't plant in swamp! We might just keep looking!! But, it doesn't hurt to go out and see what it's about, seeing as Ed just looked at the google map, who knows what that land is like!

Jim) I'm so sorry

I hope everything works out for you, maybe those chickies will be just fine. Let's hope!!

Just got back taking Hunter to the doctor, he is lookin' good and gaining a lot of weight the dr says! Yay! Damien is in daycare today, which he is super excitied about. Gets to play with the horses and chickens today since it's so waaaarm! I don't know if I can even call it daycare, really I should call it "Auntie Heidi's house!" Shes super eager to get Hunter, and keeps asking me to drop him off so I can have some "me" time, but I figure she'll have Hunter more than me when I go back to work. It's my time to hang with him!

I have 100 strawberry plants sitting in the garage waiting for me to put them in the ground. I guess I better get moving. I'm a little worried about my copra onions, as I let them dry out in the box on accident before planting. Oh well, they aren't dead yet, just not growing! My home depot onions are growing good...this will be an interesting experiment to see what does better

My pressure canner should arrive today. I will probably place it on the stove and then be mad my garden isn't pulling out veggies yet. I also got a food scale (a cheapo one) to monitor what I bring out of the garden. At the end of the year I'd love to tally it up and see how much I grew. I also have to remember that I am going to be working...so we will see what time allows!

Good Afternoon All... Happy Birthday Doc...hope your wish comes true when you blow out those candles with the first try. I know there are lots of them....but you can do it

Good to hear the hatch will prolly happen yet Jim. I saw all the damage up your way on the news. We had the wind, but nothing like what you guys had.

Heirloom seeds can be had at www.sandhillpreservation.com I've had good luck with their seeds.

Sorry about the Iowa Blues Hurley. I hope your hubby is still alive...prolly a little hard of hearing for sure!

Later.... ~ bigzio

Hippo Birdie to DrH!! If you like, I will send you a fleece hen apron; they are cheap and oh so simple, just a piece of fleece fabric with holes strategically placed. PM me your address.

Terri, you have an outhouse?! We have 3.

DH brought them home last summer. One is a garden shed, one a pond shed, the last a all-around tool shed. I'm gonna landscape around 'em to cuten, cutin, cute-en them up.

Thanks Jim for all the nestbox pics.

Raiquee, sometimes it pays to ask, other times forgiveness is easier in terms of the DNR. When we bought our place 2 years ago, we called them to ask a question about putting a little bridge over the creek that cuts our property in half. The guy says 'no you can't, it's navigable.' Uh-huh, the 1 foot deep, 3 foot wide trickle that went bone dry in '09?? Yeah, we built it anyway.

Happy Birthday, Dr H!

I've got to ask you all something. Are all you Cheeseheads superheroes or something? I can't imagine being able to keep up with all I read you're doing! Incubating, hatching, cleaning, bailing, mourning (so sorry about those lost chicks), having babies, taking care of home and family. Wow!!!! Heck, I'm lucky to get to work, take care of the animals and run the DD.

Or does it have something to do with the fact I've never owned a single chicken?

What a great group! Cheers!

(I hope you can forgive my chicken-less condition. Ducks really are a nice second-choice.)

Happy Birthday Dr. H!

Terri, yes, my little guy is crowing up a squeaky storm, too. I've got 3 pullets and a male. Those are lavender bantam Ameraucanas. Darn cute.

Off to home to hit the records mines to finish up this never-ending stack of paperwork. (But at least I get to leave work with the sun sort of still in the sky.)

Thanks for the sympathies, not many people would get how much I actually put into those chicks from the research to locating sources to waiting out availability, hatching/shipping, etc. etc. to watch perfectly healthy robust chicks drop and my project crippled for the year. Sigh. DH does still have his ear drums, I don't yell when I'm mad typically, pretty much the opposite. Just such a stupid thing to lose a project to.

Ah well, gotta get home. Evening all.

just time for a quick note.. the barred rocks are hatching like there is no tomorrow (7).. and the americaunas have started hatching like crazy , too (17).. the custom eggs are still pretty quiet.. they are due on the 10th, but I set them late at night, so the 11th might be more like it. plus the 8 hours set back from the power outage yesterday....
