Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning everyone.

The chicks are huge. They have almost finished their first big bag of dumor food. I have a smaller bag and then it will probably be time to get them off into purina start and grow until july and then switch to layena. I ordered a nylon net to go over their extended run. Thye were born about 4 weeks ago. Hopefully in 2 weeks they can go out

Haven't checked my PMs in a couple days, but I'm headed off to do that next!

I woke up to two insanely adorable new Call ducklings in the hatcher this morning. A matching set of a Blue Bibbed and a Black Bibbed with identical markings.

And my very first Stanbridge White duckling of the year hatched along with them. Only one, because that batch of eggs was set when I was still having fertility problems with that pen - but I have about a dozen more of them cooking away now.

Wet set about 3 dozen eggs in the new incubator last night. It does swing up and down about 3 degrees, but we stood there for about a half hour with my Brinsea Spot Check thermometer, and the fan/heat get it up to about 101.1, at which point the heat shuts off. The temp then drops to about 98.3 before the heat kicks back in again, and heats it back to about 101.1. It's all within a safe range for the eggs, and the average temp should end up being about 100.5. It was as close to perfect as we could get it, and once we had it within an acceptable range, we were scared to mess with it anymore!

Will's at an interview for a promotion right now - from Correctional Officer to Correctional Sergeant. He's pretty much guaranteed the position as they're ridiculously short on Sergeants right now (because Scott Walker forced a bunch of them into retirement) and have been making the officers do the Sergeants work, but I'm sitting here like this

anyways!

Shanti, got a good chuckle out of your post. I too have been wondering how these folks have the energy for all they do! I get tired just reading about all they do. I'm amazed too at the number of eggs being hatched here, and can't even hope to keep up with what everyone is hatching, has hatched, will hatch!

SF

for the promotion too! Would be great to get the pay for doin the work!

gaitedgrl, welcome!

Dr H I'm sure if Peatwo had thumbs he would have helped. I've lost track, what exactly is Peatwo anyway?

Deb

fl.gif
for Will Sweetfolly! dk Peatwo is the son of Peaches, the roo I got from fm that was killed defending his girls by a Fisher. He's a red sex link roo with a great personality like his father who is my avatar. Right after he was killed I went a bought a bator with hopes of a progeny. I hatched out him and Btwo. She's a second generation sex link too. She's named after her obvious mother. Bit*h. As soon as she hatched she started complainin so Btwo it is! Was reading the news letter this morning and got another clue as to my bad hatch rate. I had the bator sitting on top of the built in dishwasher that doesn't have a countertop on it yet and it wasn't getting any air flow. The bottom holes were completely sealed off.

lau.gif
as far as the Zebu, IDK looks like 3 (mama, yearling (girl) and mama's prego) for over $1000!
th.gif
well that would be a fine start to the Zebu population here lol wouldn't be much milk, the guy said he never milks them
hu.gif
what to do what to do. We looked in on some frizzles cause DH never seen one and my DS5 found an egg laying on the floor right in the door, for some odd reason (as if WE don't get enough of our OWN eggs) he asked the guy if he could have it, the guy chuckled and said sure. DS held that egg close and excitedly said "I'm gonna hatch it!" the guy seen the proudness in his eyes or something and gave him some more eggs here and there. that little turd ended up walked away with 9 eggs to hatch. lol I don't think the guy thought that those eggs would make it home. lol but with my DS and eggs, he know what you can get out of them. lol this is going to be his baby to deal with. funny thing last year we didn't have the room to even dream of doing letting one of our kids get more eggs to hatch. what a diff. 1 year makes. which reminds me, We better get to finishing that coop!

DrH I missed your bday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! have L take that pic that TO was visualizing and email it to me, I'll make it into a shirt!

Holy Moses! huh?

TO you said
Since the bash is in the spring and all of us will have at least one broody...maybe the bubble should say, "Keep your hands away; these are MINE!"
ok now we need to decide again what should be in the bubble on the shirts. I love what you suggested, but need it shorter. something like "Paws off! These are MINE!" or Hatching, Hatching, Hatching.... or Go find your OWN eggs! or or or.... Now look what you started, TO. :sigh: lol gotta figure it out soon. wonder if I can do a poll? Hmmm?

Hey--I like that "hatching, hatching, hatching..." since that seems to be what we are all doing right now! Yeah you could do a poll...are you a GF member? I was thinking only they could run their own polls? Not sure if that was this site or not!

Brother did it rain here! My back pasture is pretty flooded. I was glad that it didnt start until I was 1/2 way through the dog walk. THen it started to hail right when I got back to the house. I pulled my car into their garage! THat was cool...the hail was about the size of quarters (but spherical of course) an I was just imagining the hood of my car...I think that is one thing I wouldnt mind...a garage hooked onto the house instead of 75 yards away! Maybe someday...
fl.gif

Looks like no riding lesson tonight...kinda glad because I have a Superintendent meeting to go to for the fair. Seems like it is so far away but it will be here before I know it!

Made a really boring herbed chicken and rice dish for the people today...I had almost an ice cream pailful left so I am making it into something better for dinner tonight! THat is the one good thing about this job--I dont have to cook too much when I get home! Oh yeah, that and I scrape the plates and bring the scrapings home for the chickens!
jumpy.gif
THey are always excited about that.
OK...off to cook AGAIN!

Later everyone! Terri O

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone!

Pictures of the two new baby Calls. They're so stinking cute, it almost makes up for the disgusting mess they're going to start making in a week or so when their poo gets bigger!

I suck at chicken math!
gig.gif
I seem to always multiply. DH would like me to subtract. I'd like to divide cept my dividing will be different that DH's (he wants to divide to get rid of some, I would like to divide them into breeds to hatch full breeds and not barnyard mixes lol told ya I suck at math.
gig.gif

cleaned out the incubator
sickbyc.gif
will be setting DS(5) eggs tomorrow maybe, wonder if DH will notice the extra eggs I add. (more math) lol
havn't told Amyable yet but I guess we're going to the swap in Seymour on Sat. (ya guess I told her now huh?) lol now I just gotta make sure she WILL be going.

Those Calls are soooo cute! I cant wait for mine

I was just outside after the storms and it is amazing how quickly my little woods has turned from brown to green! I swear you can watch the lilac flowers getting longer and longer by the minute! My double almond is flowering nicely...probably just int ime for wind tomorrow...that is usually what seems to happen.
The lettuce I planted is UP! I swear, I plant it on Friday and Sunday! What happened to 10-14 days germination? Incredible! I guess that plants make up for a late spring anyhow...only problem is that with the heat here it will probably bolt by Saturday! Well, we will have one good salad anyhow.
th.gif

THe new birds outside must be afraid of storms...they were all holed up in their coop. It is so funny watching the babies that were coop hatched with broodies; they are running all around in the rain and are only 2 weeks old or so! THey only really go by their mama at night for warmth...and I imagine she will be starting a new clutch pretty quickly now so they will be out of luck. They are just so much more self sufficient than the incubated ones.
Oh yeah...I am starting up the bator again...
he.gif
I won a "mystery egg" auction yesterday~prolly pop in some more button eggs....just in case ya know? It is such a challenge now to actually get them to hatch...I need to take some lessons from BCC on button hatching! Speaking of: We seem to have some "missing cheezers"! Anybody hear from BCC, FM, Purely poultry...who else am I missing? I talked with Cinlady and she hurt her shoulder so it is hard to type...I had to tell her that her roo Turk that I took last fall has babies! There is nothing cuter than half turken babies I tell ya!

Just came in from outside...looks like another bank of storms coming from the southwest...I walked out that way and found that my fiddlehead ferns are 12" tall already! On the weekend they were just starting to swell! Plant growth amazes me!

Gotta get dinner out...then off to my meeting! Later--Terri O

ETA: I kinda like the "chicken Math" thing too! Seems like we are all either really good at it or really bad...somehow I believe they mean the same thing!
