took the brooder apart.. lucked out; was just a wire broke right at a connector.. new wire nut and we are back in business... didn't even get to play Mr Potato Head.. LOL
It is holding a steady 80F

Have a load of cedar 2X lumber on a trailer way behind the garage.. was going to pull it around front and plane some of it..Naturally one of the tires is flat.. didn't feel like hauling a compressor way back there, so I will find something else to do.
A nap comes to mind..

Afternoon all!
It was a glorious day today! The sun was out and the birds they were a chirpin'! I got a new American flag today to replace the old one I have. I got it all hung and it sure does look spectacular if I do say so myself. I will take the old flag to our American Legion flag box in town. It's an old mail box converted into a used flag drop box. The American Legion then disposes of the flags in the correct manner! I have to remember to take the really tattered one that the previous home owners left in the garage....

Dh and I went to Sears last night and got a chest freezer for a really good deal. On sale- $100 bucks off- it's black but that is ok. As long as it does it's job and keeps our meat frozen I can live with black.

I got some strawberries planted in a pot and I planted s blackberry in a big pot as well. I have a raspberry in a pot and it's doing great! I trimmed the canes at the beginning of spring and it's really taking off! My lettuce seeds are sprouting bit the garden is not.*sigh* I think I will try another variety of corn. But the peppers I started and transplanted are doing really great, the tomatoes not so much but it's been cold at night. I ordered some white tomato seeds and also 4 little white cherry tomato plants. I cant wait to see how they turn out.
I also ordered my peach trees as well as my American Hazelnut tree and I got two silver maples for free with my order. I think I need to order a new cherry tree. I think one of mine had died...

FT- I "think" horses do come in lavender! hehe! Years ago I knew a girl who had a witch of a mare that was a blue roan. When Katie body clipped her mare, the mare always looked purple for a few weeks!! Kinda lavendery! lol! The mare was beautiful but her attitude was terrible.

Well, I've gotta feed the dogs and get something to eat. I have more to say, but the dogs...they be a barkin'! Cheers!

Happy Fish Fry Friday...hope everyone has a great long weekend! Yep, we always remember the Veterans here! Both mom and dad are Vets.
Suzie got the lawn mowed today. What a waste of gas. I bagged up 3 large feed bags of dried grass for winter use in the coop. It was such a great treat for the hens last winter. I decided it was worth the effort. Just be sure it is bone dry before baggging.

TO, I have a question for you. Was the pink brandywine tomato you bought the potato leaf variety?
My red brandywine variety are. Amazing how the leaf looks like a potato and not a tomato. Just wonderin....I know don't wonder.

MLH congrats on the new freezer. Buying stuff on sale is good stuff!

FT, the egg swap sounds great. I have Buckeyes if anyone wants some.
I really don't need anything....anyone have Black Javas?

Man you guys! Too much again! Had to laugh at the lavender horse. Thought this morning about Bec's dapple. My one leg is dappled from wading through tree tops. Didn't bother to look at the other.
lol.png
MLH thanks for the proper disposal! Chest freezer Hmmm. Personally will never own another one. Too much diggin and too many surprises at the bottom. But if it works for you. AND black OMG what will the neighbors say?

Hope your garden gets some warmth soon. I see a few of the plants got nipped last night but not bad. Jim at least you don't have to wear a stupid Mr. Potato head costume. I'm starting to reconsider my relationship with TO. I USED to really like her. Glad it was a simple fix with the bator. Gotta love those! Bunny tents, wonder how much of a market there is for those? CD at least your headed in the right direction for the weekend. Hope you have a good trip! FT silkie!

I can see where this is headed a can of spray paint and there you have it a lavendar silkie.

Buster is chasing a hen and Peatwo is chasing him. The worm has turned. It's good for Peatwo with him taking over the helm soon. Dornes That's sucks! Hope you can get the nasties dead! Nothing worse than not knowing why! Glad to hear the chicks are doing good! TO the trick to being inconspicous is to be obvious. That's such a cute pic of it napping! So now, do I still have to wear that stupid HOT costume? I hope you realize that I'm gonna have bald chickens from all the feathers I'm gonna need! It won't be pretty! And I WILL tell them it's all your fault! So sleep on that!!!! 21 days on the parrot eggs? That would be cool, have no idea what a baby parrot even looks like. Having L's pizza tonight shortly
droolin.gif
The youngest DD's beau stopped over just as I got done stackin wood, told him he had great timing. But put Peatwo on my leg and was giving him usual attention. The beau was just amazed at how cool he was and was giggling the whole time in disbelief. Pizza's done! And so am I!

DrH-It so happens I like mystery meat!!

The freezer is going in the basement so hopefully the neighbors will NEVER know I have a BLACK freezer! This being a small town and all, all I need is for tongues to start wagging!! I actually wanted a upright freezer but the DH wanted a chest freezer. The price was very good on the chest one so he won! We actually got it for more freezer room when we process the chickens and rabbits, plus for "deer" my dh will shoot some day!
roll.png
So I'm all set...now I just need animal parts to freeze..

TO adorable sleeping peep pic! How anything can catch some z's in your chicken habitat is beyond me!! They look to be a very industrious lot!

Well, here are some pics of Buzzy and the Buzzettes. They are from a week or so ago and I will take more pics tomorrow since Buzzy has developed a lot more feathers since these were taken.

This is Buzzy, Cornie, Tallulah, Dotty, and Barbi. Buzzy is the pheasant in the front (brown spotted one!), Tallulah is the Barred Rock on left (black chick) Cornie is in the corner on the top right, and Dotty and Barbi are in the middle-Dots in the back and Barbi is facing the camera.

Good Evening all,

Just got in about half hour ago. Planted some Dahlia bulbs in some 5 gallon pails. Put some lilac twigs, burning bush and Hydrangia twigs (and I mean these are twigs) that I got at Aldis for $.50 in some pots as well. We were going to plant the 30 blue spruce trees in some pots as well that I got thru the National Arbor Day Foundation but it said they needed to soak in water for 3-6 hours first so we didn't get that done today. The roots looked like they were drying up so we are soaking them overnight. Hope that won't hurt them.

Hopefully we can get them planted in the afternoon after we get home from the Swap in Rhinelander and another trip to Menards.

What do all you experts think. Should I plant them in pots for a few years or in the ground. We were going to put them in the garden.

Hopefully we can get some nice tomato plants at the swap tomorrow. Don't need any chickens, goats or ??????

Oh and JVLS you are not alone as far as you Guineas hatching early. I went to put them in lockdown today, they are due to hatch on Monday the 30th. Well I found a few with cracks and thought how the heck did that happen. Well once I saw 4 out of the 18 with cracks I realized they have started to pip. They don't pip like a normal chicken does. This looks more like a straight line or a V shape. Think one is going to hatch very soon. I'm sad, they are all going to the neighbor. So I will have to not get to attached.

Anybody else going to the Rhinelander swap tomorrow. I would think not, it is way "UP North" . LOL

Hope you all have a nice Holiday Weekend and drive safely and keep an eye out for the other guy !!!

Wow, you all were right, way too much to keep up on! I really like the openness of this forum. I have been on many a forum where people just plan flat out suck and are big meanies! lol, nice to know you are all so so welcoming and warm.

As far as the dapple horse goes. My mother has one and it has gotten lighter and lighter each and every spring when it sheds out. Started out very very dark and dappled and as of late it has turned whiter and whiter each spring. Amazing how that works... but he did look kind of purple when he was still dark. Tom the horse.

It sure was a wonderful day. I love dahilas... they are so pretty. Glad to hear you got them all planted. Sucks that some of your gardens aren't growing very well though. I want a garden badly, but weeding is not a fun task, and I hate worms! Maybe someday.

Well, I am fully converted into a chick mamma... two of my Buffs have kind of a pasty butt. Can't really tell if it was pasty butt or just poo stuck in their feathers, they were pooping okay, but the build up had me worried. I took them just now when I was cleaning the cage and washed their hinders. My hubby looked at me like I was crazy and was asking what I was doing. "Oh just washing their butts..."
lol.png
the look he gave me was priceless!

Worked more on the coop today, gave up on the roof that wasn't going together and just ended up with a single roof high on the front side and low on the back.. can't remember what that is called. Brain's mush. I got the roof all on, and put another window in. Busy busy day! Spent it all outside working on that coop! I told my husband that from now on when he is in the dog-house he can just sleep in the coop. It's gonna be almost as nice as our house! Insulated and all, very fancy! Can't wait until it is done and I can get some paint on it. Gonna go red with white trim. I always wanted a red barn, our barn is white... so now, my coop is gonna be red
smile.png
Anyone know where I can buy barn red paint on sale?

Well, have a great evening all, and have a great day tomorrow. Off to photograph a wedding, work time! Gonna miss my chikkies though when I am not home tomorrow. Their little peeps!

They are some cuties !! Are you going to eat those after you've named them?????

The pheasant was only one of two who survived. When she hatched, dh and I were thinking about what to do with her. We decided to either release her or process her. That was before we found out that she has quite the personality and attitude! So no, I wont process her. She will live out her life with the chickens. I'm thinking about showing her along with the chickens.

Cornelius (or Cornelia) was one of 50 Cornish Cross broilers, along with some other breeds, that I was brooding for a seminar. He was the smallest of them all and not doing well so I made a hospital tank (aka Buzzy's brooder) for him and a little Barred Rock (Daphne) that was not doing well either. Of course, you just can't have "1" of any breed of chicken so the Bardie got a friend (Tallulah). Cornelius however did not since he was going to be on the menu if he made it through his punkieness. Then my dh said that we should keep some white egg layers, so hence following the "Rule of Two's" I kept Barbi and Dotty, two California White's. But poor Cornie is just one pudgy broiler living a spoiled life. I named him even though he was on the to be processed list since I thought he needed a name out of respect and love. So he got a name but I won't process him unless I really need to. He is a happy little fat thing and he loves Dotty.

Dornes-I saw red barn paint at Menards right next to the white fence paint. It was 12 bucks a gallon. I had to laugh at your hubby's reaction to your pasty butt washing! I'm wondering how long it will be until he is gets the whole chicken ownership love fest thing. Also, don't worry about worms, chickens

them!! Plus if you get some geese like say the Cotton Patch Goose, they can weed for you! So, now, you can have your garden!!!!
