good morning, nad A real nice garden type rain.. I got the peppers and califlour in at the right time.. I want to add more compost to the tomatoes and then mulch them.. Now with the big tiller kaput who knows when I will get around to replacing it.. It served me well,, I paid $725.oo in 1978.. Troybilt Horse.
And yes, it is a Tecumsah engine..

Annie want me to get a riding tractor with a tiller.. I think my rows are too close for that, I have already located another Troy Bilt on Craig's list..

I sold 13 guineas yesterday.. still have 43 in that brooder..

we locked mama duck and her last lone duckling in Sherry's pen.. (we even name our pens) sick? Houdini, the duckling, was out this morning.. the first bird ever to escape that pen.. How? no clue..

a Ukokkei hatched last night.. still not a good hatch rate with them..

Dr H, is the rain supposed to be coming back? I better get my cukes planted, pronto..

Grand daughter called and said she was coming on the bash weekend with her 3 year old.. I am still coming to the bash on Sat..

Good morning! No worries Celtic! I never thought that of you! I just would like to know what you use them for? Jam? Fresh eating? I am all for having stuff you can eat growing on the property. From what I have read you have to fight the wildlife for the berries!
I went and looked for Turk's baby with my camera along just after I said I would post a pic. Either he grew a lot more feathers around the neck or disappeared! I have so many babies running around here right now it isnt even funny (well to my DH it is REALLY NOT FUNNY AT ALL!)

He is starting the "gotta get rid of some birds again" mantra.

You got 10 more years out of your tiller than us...of course ours isnt quite dead yet (just a flesh wound)! Did you ever replace the tines on your tiller? I am thinking ours might be needing that soon too. We bought ours in 86 I think.
Dont go biting your tongue in half! That would certainly be too painful a punishment for educating "some" of the people on here!

I read some of the comments in that thread and laughed at the one that asked if they would get more bad points if they said "oh oh--just earned myself 35 points for that one!"

Well--looks like it's time again to go to work...and it's sunny out! Had the day off yesterday (mostly) rainy...what gives? Looks like I am going to have another dog walk to do too...pretty soon maybe I wont have to take care of anybody? I think I might be getting burned out.

TO, I actually want a hackberry to feed my birds. My wild birds. Maybe then they'll leave all my berry trees & bushes alone? LOL
All the trees & bushes I have either feed us or the wild birds & critters. It helps keep the cost of bird seed to a minimum. And I just love watching the birds too, so a tree that will attract them is right up my alley.

I am cleaning my house now for our visitors to come tomorrow. MIght get in some berry picking tomorrow morning and maybe visit Carol! My kids love her and the animals.
Just thought I would mentioned that Farm and Fleet down here has gone to 25% off their trees and shrubs and in 2 weeks they will be 50% they mentioned. Need to get some more blueberry bushes to put in. Want my fruit handy for my family and my birds.
Any foods your chickens didnt like from the garden?

I meant, I will say hi and goodbye to the grand daughter and go to the bash.. knowing her, she might not show up at the last minute anyhow.. If you knew Seb, the Tasmanian Monster, you would go anywhere to get away, too.. LOL

CC. seems to me if you put up trees and bushes to attract birds,they will come.. I don't think they will know to eat off the one tree and leave everything else alone.. You have no choice.
You have to make some signs for them.. EAT THIS and DO NOT EAT THIS.. LOL

TO. I have gone through 3 sets of tines.. this present set should have been replaced a couple of years ago.. If I can find a connecting rod and a piston, I might get this tiller going again.. I have a call in to a guy in Spencer, wisc.. good small engine mech.. He might have some parts laying around..

I can do the labor myself.. but maybe I might just go ahead and let him do it.. see what he will charge, first..

i sold all 10 of the ducklings,all 3 goslings and 5 guinea keets this morning.. the man kept sking, are these geese good to eat? what do guineas taste like? I felt like telling his wife to take the poor guy to McDonalds, he must be hungry.. LOL

What the heck???? Nobody posted ALL DAY? And here I thought I would have a bunch to read...me and Captain (LOL) Just got back from work and I am pooped! Yet again...I think I want to retire! I really just want to putter around here and enjoy the farm and my chickens and ducks and geese and guineas and horses and sheep and goats and dogs and cats and parrots and finches and snakes (soon), and quail and wait, I think I am done! Oh yeah---great news! I am getting 2 tortoises! I am so happy that I will have them again...that garden is all planted with "good for torts" plants so I hate to have to dig up the whole thing and start over! They are coming from New York!!!!

THey will arrive the Tuesday after the bash so I will have a whole week to "bond" before the county fair. I didnt want to get them before that bash cause I think Carol will have enough to take care of...what do you think?

I am pretty keyed about it anyhow!

DD25 brought back the Muskovys that she had at the day care place she works. They are in the basement with the medium chickens...anybody want some REALLY tame ducks? No idea on the sexes of them yet. Hey BL4...these dont make any noise! I talked to Jim the hay guy and he has rabbits for me to bring up too--I sure hope I dont have to bring any home this time! Hint hint!

I am going to start another thread in the bash place I think...it will be the list that DrH says I have! Then everyone can add to it and we can know how much $$ to bring and how many carriers...OK and if you will have to rent a U-haul to get it all home! Sound good? I still havent heard anything about the banner...but it does have a week to get here! It better arrive is all I'm sayin'. I dont want to have to ship it off if we didnt even get to use it! I wonder if the whole group will fit in the pic this time? Man, I just cannot wait!

OK off to set up that list now...Jim I got the tiller and paid for it. Just under $200 for an engine rebuild. DH told me under $300 so I guess I was pleasantly surprised. This guy has quite the junkyard of parts too. His wife was soooo nice--he was gone delivering a fixed machine--she offered me goldfish/koi for my pond...can you believe it, I said NO!

(only because I have a turtle that would eat them in there!)

So I set up another nest for the second broody duck to sit on. Those two would sit and scream at each other until the one on the nest would relinquish it to the other duck!

evening all, Just catching up on reading
update on the girls. They finally are using the perches, 2 like to sit on the garbage can with their food on it but the rest are on the perches and the poo containers underneath are catching the poo. The girls are also coming in the coop at night on their own, which is good, because they hate to be picked up and carried to the coop. It looks like I defineately have 2 roo's they are the silver laced wyandottes. They are such pretty birds, I wish I could keep them

well have fun at the meeting. If anyone has slw hens for sale let me know. I don't think I can make it, It is my dads birthday on Saturday and Sunday the boys have a surrpise planned.
