Ok I like butter pecan ice cream. Also could I have the directions one more time, I don't know where I put them. Thanks. Also what do you guys want me to bring for food? I'm not listed as bringing anything, so I was thinking the veggie pizza or a salad of some sort. What is your guys thoughts?
Not feeling great tonight, I'm off to go to bed early.

Oh, Carol. I am so sorry to hear that.

I can completely understand your frustration. I'd be hoppin' mad too. And sad.
Hope the rest of the babies hatch without incident.

Shanti-you might have a few issues going on here weather being one of them. Another consideration is that our feed may not be balanced correctly with enough amino acids for ducks. This would definately cause egg issues. I'm not familiar with Natures Grown Organic. Do they make a duck feed? If not, you might try to give your girls a feed formulated for ducks for two to three weeks to see if this improves their egg shells.
I hope this helps you out and I hope your girls get back to laying soon.

Celtic-looking at these labels, I can see why your having some trouble. Du-Mor is co packed (milled) by Purina for TSC. However, looking at the label, IMO Du-Mor is the better choice just from the amino acid complex listed. Those are the Lysine and Methionine. There is a .15% loss in Lysine and a .10% loss in Methionine in the Layena. That is quite significant to me. This would explain to me why you have had problem since the switch. The weather has not help either. But those two amino acids are the building blocks to quality eggs and egg production.

I tried to find the g. analysis for Du Mor but could not. I used the term "meal" as an example for explaining the difference in the way grain sources are listed. Layena is a great expample of this. Grain-by-products, grain proteins and plant protein products are all vague. They can be any form of grain from corn to wheat to soy to rice and so on. Reading the Layena label, I would draw the conclusion that this is an open formula. So each newly milled batch will be different from the last but still will meet the label's listed levels of the g. analysis. Basically it's a different feed each time it's made.

I only have a tag from Nutrena's Nature Wise Chick Starter to compare terms to but it will work for this comparison. The tag lists Ground corn, dehulled soybean meal, canola meal, processed grain by products, cereal food fines then the other ingredients like the pre and pro biotics and vitamins and chelated minerals. When I read a label such as this since it is so specific, I read this as a closed formula. So each batch will have proteins from the specific grains that are listed so the variation is very slight. Basically, it's the same feed each time it's made.

I can dig out my bag of Nutrena Layer if you'd like to check the g. analysis if you'd like. It's no trouble but it won't be until tomorrow, but I'd be happy to compare it for you.
Hope this helps you out. I would imagine that if you switch back to Du-Mor, you will see a better egg and your egg production should increase and hopefully the girls should get back on tract. So long as the weather does it's job and gets better!!

ETA: I neglected to start off my post with "Your most welcome for the help!!"

I will be comming from the North so I won't be driving thru Clintonville. I'll stop in Antigo or someplace down the line for the ice cream. Called around and no one carries dry ice so I'll just get tons of regular ice.

Just had a scarey thought !!!! I sure hope none of us has internet and BYC withdrawals over the weekend !!!!

Making mental notes for things that need to get done tomorrow. The brakes are done on the truck now just waiting for the car brakes to get done. We went to pick it up tonight and he said they looked find (according to the son) We told him it made a terrible scrapping noise when we stopped and when we turned the corner and drove off it continued for quite some time like something was hung up. This was on the passenger side wheel. Sure hope it isn't a serious problem, then I wish it would have been the brakes !!!

Oh and on my list of things to bring are bug spray !!! Beer and beverages. Long sleeve shirt for the evening. (We're planning on sticking around for a while) I'll also pick up some bowls and spoons in case people don't want to eat their ice cream in a cone. I usually just eat it out of the pail but I'll be polite and use the dish this weekend !!!

Gonna go now and watch a new video I got in the mail from Giddyupflix.com on training donkeys. They seem to think it is the other way around so I need to set them all straight !!

Jim, I can't believe your motor didn't come with a dipstick !!!! That is way to weird, What the heck !!!! By the way, I saw your post on the WI swap . I knew John, Wishbone too. He was a nice guy. I met him at the feed store in Polar and would talk chickens with him. Never did make it to his place to see all of his chickens and stuff. The feedstore couple told me when he developed terminal lung cancer and not to long after that he passed. I didn't know him for very long but sure made me wish I would have.

Oh and there will be a campfire right? Well anyway, good night, at least for now !!

Now see if DH and I were coming up there, we would bring our mobile hot spot and any one could get on either through one of our laptops OR one of yours.. LOL
Yet another reason we will come next year.

I didn't mention that my Amercauna did the weirdest thing tonight... along the lines of shelless OR super soft shelled eggs...
She squatted with her wings at a odd angle.. and popped out a super soft shelled/shelless egg...
She is at point of lay so should be anytime now.. and if she is, she is laying boring brown eggs...
