Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BL4, nope. Just ate them straight from the jar. Then choked for awhile.....
Please let us know when you're going to Bristol. FT & I love going there.
Enjoy the rest of your evening!

Well if you would be willing to part with them let me know. I have a roo (dang hamburg - the only one that survived is a flippen ROOSTER! Go figure...) Might as well replace him with two hens huh? Chicken math.... lol!

How would integrating larger hens into a group of smaller hens work? I would need a tad bit of advice on that - but would so be for having those frizzles! Do you have pics of them?

Well, after a full day of work on the big coop yesterday the drill died and I went to bed with it unfinished. As a result we suffered a fatality last night.

One of my Silkies was pulled over the run fence by a raccoon. I feel so so guilty. It was a huge shock to walk out to a feather covered run this morning.

I used the last of her eggs to make french toast for breakfast and the kids and I had a little chat about why we really liked that particular hen, then we moved on to coop building (me) and sprinkler playing (the kids).

At least the coop is done and everyone is now locked up for the night. Literally--after last night I made sure that every door on the coop and runs have keyed locks. Little coon fingers are too clever. Incidentally, that is the only purchase I made for the coop--every single other thing was repurposed (including the window that I have to mount on when the weather gets cold).

It's still waiting for it's green roof, but here's the result (sorry for the poor quality of the pic):

Good evening! I am pooped...seems that I work so much harder on a "day off!" I only had to walk two dogs today--no people, that is what makes me tired! Got the garden weeded and the tort enclosure fenced with higher wire. The trap is baited...no guineas in the tree tonight...the turkeys are still out but they are pretty big. I might mix up the GM and coke yet tonight. Put it out in the back pasture where they are probably coming from. It has got to be racoons--I dont think fox climb trees and those guineas are pretty big for an owl.
Screwed up Jim, cause I already told the woman that I have more birds...I have to talk to the other superintendent and see what she says...if I cant show-then I cant. Saves me time anyway!

I did find DrH--I thought that was a reflection or something...still cant really make out his face!

I heard peeping in the barn this morning and I found more for the family!

Now she has 15! She is a great broody...I can never set eggs with her though cause she goes off and does her own thing!

I think now that we "know" each other better there will be MORE chatter on here! I couldnt believe the amount I had to catch up on just for the day!
Horse people...any idea when you want to get together and take a ride? I vote for Palmyra Horseman's camp...

I think I gotta sleep...dont think I will get the pie or the rhubarb done for the fair tomorrow! Loooong day for me and entries have to be in by 7 PM. Oh well--sweet dreams all! Terri O

Awwwwww!!!!!!!! Look at all the baby fuzzy butts! I love that pic, TO. She is for sure a super-mommy with that group.
So sweet!

Kee, so sorry to hear about your silkie.

On a better note, your coop/run looks great. And great job on repurposing all the materials for it. Looks like the cat approves too!

TO and Kee....

about the losses.
TO... thanks for the peek at the new "Turk" baby!

Well, got the brooder box done and in! So far so good. Tomorrow I got to clean her nest and get the unhatched eggs out. I THINK I have 7 chicks.
jumpy.gif
Any advise on cleaning her nest without P!$$ing her off too much? I was worried that she wouldn't be a good mom. This is her first time at it and she seldom interacts with the other chickens so I didn't know how she would react to all those chicks. So far pretty good. Very protective and seems to chatter at them all the time.

I let the "young ones" (Easter week hatch) out with the ladies today. It went fairly well. They have allot to learn and only have a few weeks to do it. Got to ease them into the big coop so I can get the ones from the bash in the small coop where the young ones are now.

BTW...JIM... Remember I got the 2 "oddball" chicks in that carrier that had the Guineas and Ameraucanas. Well, I think I got a white guinea! After I got them home and in the brood pen I was watching them and thought "Gee that white one sure is shaped more like a guinea than a chicken."
hmm.png
If you want it back or xtra $ for it let me know.

GOT to do garden work tomorrow! So many weeds can't find some of the plants!

Sure, now the heat comes!

My incredibly, mechanically inclined son, fixed the trailer! One of the cable guides broke and the cable twisted and threw the other cables off. He had to make a part for it, kinda' jury rigged it, but it works! At least now hey can use it over the 4th like they planned.

Hope everyone is recovering well!

Good Morning All! I was up at 4:30 had a cup and started reading off and on just finished.
roll.png
Have to be brief need to get 2 big trees done today. Then it will be fill in the last row with smaller stuff. That can be done the rest of the summer and fall. So I actually came very close to my deadline. I always like looking at a full wood shed

Fric and Frac want so bad to be out with the big kids. I've been bringing them out in that cage during the day and will introduce them to the full coop/run soon. Then in about a week I'll let them mingle to see how much of a beatin their going to get. Things seem to be picking up in the egg laying Dept. Got 5 yesterday. Hopefully it will continue! Gotta let the kids out and get the saws prepped. FT your such a liar!

Good morning all!

Had some stuff to reply to and I cant remember....Oh! yes I do!!

Keedokes-great job on the chicken coop and run! Very nice! I love their little cat guardian!?! lol. Sorry about the loss of your little Silkie.

TO good luck at the fair! Cute chicks! Hopefully Emma will hatch hers and we can compare!

I can go riding whenever.....except for Sept 10. Just give me a date, time, and location. Anywhere sounds good to me!

H&R-I'd love to get a refresher course in jamming/canning with you! I'll send you a PM incase you don't see this!

Well, not much to report here! Got the rabbit area cleaned out and I think I'm going to make little drop caged for them so the can have some "range free" time. I'll have to figure out how to make a barrier since they like to dig. Although hopefully they wont be in one place long enough to dig out, rabbits can be quite industrious diggers.
The chickens are doing great and Emma is still on her nest. Winston is being a butt head.

He likes to crow while your on the phone!
rant.gif
I have no idea what to do with him! He is such a naughty boy! But dang he is cute! His spurs are starting to bud and he is starting to grow his hackles. And yet he still fits in the palm of one hand. *sigh* Stupid Rooster.....grrrr.......

So, I'd better get gone. I have to make sure everyone has loads of water and then water the garden. Maybe pull some weeds and baby the peas and mators some more. My turnips were a total disipointment......disepointment......disapointment.....this year. They just bolted, they grew these little pathetic turnip bulbs. The radish did well but I waited too long to harvest them. They are hot hot hot!! The carrots are not coming up. I have I think three.... I pulled my container spinach. It finally bolted. I left a couple of plants to harvest some seeds though.

Ok off to water....

later gators.....

good morning,, had a few sprinkles but not enough to wet anything..

replies : my mind draws a blank..

Cind, don't worry about that white guinea.. just enjoy.. It was the one that ws a bit larger than the yellow ones, right? Annie jlust mentioned to me this morning how she likes the white guineas the best.. because when they get the wattles etc, it doesn't show up like it does on the darker guineas.. In her words, they are not so ugly..

TO,, an owl has no problem taking even a full grown guinea rooster.. they kill them and eat just the head and neck..

and I was wondering why you were increasing the height of the fence around the torts ?? just how high can they jump ?? LOL

I am going out right after I post this and till between the corn rows.. there are hardly any weeds.. but I had a dream last night that it was tight row to row weeds, and it spooked me so bad, I just have to get out there..

A couple of my Broccoli have bolted also.. this hot weather is good for that..

BL, there seemed to be a lot of "cherry" ice cream sundaes being consumed.. but they did not fool us for one minute.. And it was funny, there was no "juice" left in the bowl ater the cherries were gone. Hmmmm,,,,,,, that might explain "64" signatures out of 44 people , eh? maybe a little double vision going on ????

I better get outside before it gets too hot..

later /////////jiminwisc..........
