Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanks all for the well wishes for Duke. DH couldn't get him in today and with the holiday and the vet's schedule, can't get him in 'till Wed.

He did talk to the assistant, and she thinks it may be another ear infection. He did have one before but didn't get as bad with it. He's whining allot. I feel bad for him but not much I can do. Aspirin and some herbs to help him relax and sleep. He was able to get up and slowly make it outside a couple of times, however he also threw up 4 times.

It's going to be a very long few days.

FT... Goats?
I love that wagon! And driving the team from the window really had me!!!
gig.gif
That cart BL4 found looks like it's just what you need! Years ago I learned to drive a wagon... got good with 1 horse and was just learning team... then things went crazy with the family and well.
hu.gif
And short people should NOT try to drive a saulkie cart!
lau.gif

shanti..... Did your son have insurance on that place? If so he should be able to start up again. If not... so sorry. Haying was always kind of cool. The rhythm of the baler and the smell of the hay! As long as I'm not the one stacking bales... I'm good!

Matt....

Dr.H.... Well, SHE looks like a hen to me, even w/the spur nubs, some of my hens have spur nubs. Saw the bald spot too. The waddle looks a bit big, but my leghorn has a big waddle. Hummm dose it lay eggs?
idunno.gif

MLH.... So sorry about your hen! Hope the others make it OK. I've had whole pages I was typing go Poof! too! I feel your pain!

Good Early Morning All! You guys are good yup it's spurs. Didn't know hens grew them think it's like a bearded hen turkey. All the production reds have big combs and waddles in my bunch. Yes she does lay. WELCOME MattLudt! Hope you enjoy our banter! Bigz wish you would have called yesterday when I was over your way. Give me a call as soon as you can this morning. Cind hope Duke is feeling better soon! Sucks to get old. FT I agree with CC YOU need a pair too! And a pitch fork. Wanted to tell everyone that if I don't address you I'm not ignoring you I just can't remember it all at once. Sorry! Jim there was something I was going to say to you but can't remember right now.

The kids all got fresh water and water melon when I got home. Most were panting I almost set up the sprinkler for them. You ought to see them in their little kini's course Buster has to wear his speedo. Gonna set up the volley ball net in prep for the 4th, they like volley ball. Don't know what I'll do today yet so much to choose from. Need to get some cilantro in the freezer maybe some broccoli too. And get some lettuce cleaned to go with the Iti beef L's gonna make today. Burgers and salad tomorrow on the barbie. And clean the shed, fill in the driveway, fix the camper....... Man I'm tired already.

Morning all,

hope you survived the storm last night, We lost a few big branches, The neighbors lost a few big trees. The chickens seem fine this morning. About another 3 weeks I am going to uncover their nest boxes and hope for the best. Jim thought by the end of the month they should be laying.

I got 4 of my grad classes done. A's on all of them.
big_smile.png
I think I am going to take 6 more credits. There are 2 more good classes that will help next year.
hope everyone has a good day

David

Hope everyone is staying cool, will be calling and checking in with my parents to make sure they are okay- they don't have A/C but the house is an old farm house and stays pretty cool. We offered to install some window units a few years ago that we had but they didn't want them

Putting together a Broccoli-cheddar casserole that uses 12 eggs and the kids love it! It's a good quick warm up meal and helps keep the egg supply down
big_smile.png

Had to fill out and answer the American Community Survey from the US Census Bureau last night so it can be mailed back
roll.png
apperantly by law you must fill it out!

Have to start getting our canning jars and supplies around for later this am.

good morning,, we had quite a downpour at 11;3o PM. It was good for the garden.. I was going to hill potatoes this morning, but it is too wet.. we needed the rain more than the hilling..

I can hear something pecking around in bator #1.. I can't see anything so it must be something pipping.. usually they don't rattle the egg as loud as this one is..

I am going to make breakfast and after that I have no plans..

Yes that is a beauti isn't it? I saw that. But, I am a beginner and am looking for something a little heavier & safer. Those meadowbrooks are not easy to bail out of if you need to. I'm looking for one of those red forecarts. There is one in the MI UP that I'm interested in. It comes with the draft size shafts, poles, eveners (single tree etc), BRAKES, and runners that you can put on for winter use. So that way I can drive my team of spotted drafts and drive each one single. I'd start out driving my Belgian and my Percheron/Morgan mare.

With the Pioneer Forecart I can pull things behind it as well. They aren't the prettiest thing (or as nice as the meadowbrook) but alot more universal. Of course if I wanted to show I"d need that meadowbrook !!!!! But that will be a while down the road !!!!

Can't believe the price on the new Forecarts. And they still want a fortune for the used ones !!! Geezzz
barnie.gif
They weigh about 600 lbs (so I'm told) so that ought to tell the Drafts that there is someting behind them. One guy I was talking to said that the reins are nothing more then two strings on those horses !!!!! You have to have a horse that cooperates !! Those reins really mean nothing with a horse that size !!! And of course the brakes won't stop them but give them more resistence.

I have a real nice wagon which would seat alot of people but don't have brakes on it. Need to get that done. I am on a hill so I would use the brakes to keep the wagon from putting to much force on the holdbacks. Wouldn't need to push them down the hill !!!
ep.gif

So I guess the main thing here is SAFETY FIRST !!! And hope the horses cooperate
bow.gif

Nope not goats. I promise I will go outside today !!! and get some pictures of my two new additions !!!

As far as the fire, wouldn't the building owners insurance have to cover the structural damage to the building? What about loss of use???? Just a thought.

Poor Duke, has to wait. Is there an emergency clinic in the area ? I know they can be pretty costly. Do you have any medicated ear wash that you can use until he can see the vet. We have two Great Pyrenese and one gets ear infections. He just shakes his head alot, never got dizzy etc. I had a toy poodle that had a real bad ear infection once. Poor little girl (4lbs) she couldn't even stand or walk. It was an inner ear infection. Don't know what you could do for that over the weekend. Hope the aspirn helps.

Broccoli---- Homegrown to me = worms !! YUK !!! I remember my brother had us all over for dinner the first year he had his garden. Broccoli was on the menu !!! Wormy broccoli !!! Guess he didn't know you had to soak it in salt water to get all of the worms out !!!! YUK !! I don't think I could ever eat homegrown Broccoli again !!! GIVE ME THE CHEMICAL treated kind !!!!
lau.gif

So you guys like that horse wagon to use for a chicken coop ???
lau.gif
You're right CC I'd have to leave a week early to get to the Bash on time. Maybe a bit earlier if they expect me to stop and pick up their doo doo !!

Wait til you see the coop we did bring home a few weeks ago, yes it has wheels !!! Maybe I'll put on Chucks bibs and have my picture taken with it !!!
lau.gif

DrH I saw the spurs, those are called he/she chickens !!!
Jim, those must be the chickens I got from you !!! I am only getting 1 egg now and then, either they are laying outside someplace or the stress of the move caused them to quit laying. Or maybe they are she/he's not he/she's !!
lau.gif

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has typed a whole page and then have it disappear on me !!! Thought it was something I did !!
hide.gif

TO Good thing it didn't do that to you or delete everything but what you said about taking off all of your close !!!

BTW, I've just become a Pullorum tester. Got my certifiate in the mail, the antigen, loop etc. Just need the testing box. Hopefully we can make one and save a few $$$. Maybe I can test at the Bash for people that need it.

I think the rain completely missed us last night. Could really use some. Sorry to hear of any damage. Hopefully everyone is ok.
It was overcast earlier, now the sun is blazing with not a cloud to be seen. It is going to be another scorcher, but worse since there is no breeze today. At least the girls don't look like it's bothering them. Yet. I put another fan out in the coop for them yesterday.
I've had whole pages go poof already too..... I can hear the sighs of relief already.
gig.gif

Shanti, don't overdo it today. I sure wish we had a hay baler attachment for our Farmall. We've got the old sickle bar, DrH.
big_smile.png

And how does being inquisitive clue us in to her having spurs anywho? All my production gals have large combs & wattles too. I have a few pics of them on my BYC page. DH & I got a chuckle out of picturing your gals in little chickie kinis. And sunglasses. Sipping iced tea.
lau.gif

H&R, my parents were just as stubborn on the A/C too, but I finally forced the issue. Good thing, too. Dad needed it with all his breathing issues the last few years of his life, At least he was comfortable for them. And now mom actually admits that she didn't know how she went so long without it. Hope your parents are ok & change their minds. That casserole sounds yummy! Wish my girls would start laying.

Cind, did you try to call around to some other vets to see if they could get him in sooner? There are 2 in Mukwonago. Mukwonago Animal Hospital on 83 (1065 N Rochester St), (262) 363-4557 & Bay View Veterinary Clinic, 890 Main Street, (262) 363-9993
I sure hope he is feeling better real soon.
I've got to figure out something to make to take by the SIL for a cookout tomorrow. Hopefully it won't involve turning on the oven.
Take it easy today if you can everyone, and stay safe!

Attention Horse people !!

I told my neighbor I would ask around so here goes. She has several (I think 13 horses) and she needs to rehome some of them. She tells me she won't be feeding them this winter so she might have to call the horse buyer. I think she tells me this so I help her find homes. I've found homes for a few a couple years ago. So here I go again.

She has some purebred Arabians, purebred Saddlebreds and some that are half saddlebred/half arabian. Some are solid colored and some are paints.

Some are broke to ride and she also has a team of half/halfs that are broke as a team to drive. Those are chestnut color. She said she would take a fair price for them. Personally I think she should give them away to ensure good homes but some people just want that few hundred that the meat buyer would give her !!!!
somad.gif

I do know that the ones that are broke haven't been used so they would need refreshers. If you are interested in learning more, PM me and I will send pictures when she gets around to sending them to me !! I don't know why she can't put them on craigslist !!!!
somad.gif
So being the animal lover that I am I guess I will.

Pm me .
