Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Happy hot afternoon all!

FT- *gasps* Did you get you some pigs?!?!?!

All I can tell you about garlic plants is that dh planted one near the gardens edge and was so proud and happy with his garlic plant. Then I came along on the lawn tractor and mowed it down by accident. Oops.

DrH-sorry to hear about your BIL's passing. My condolences to you and your family.

Cind- I'm sorry that Duke is not doing well. Hopefully the vet can help him. I will send him good thoughts...

Well, I just wanted to check in. Stay cool everyone!

Hi hot day, added 5 more guineas to the TV,(29)

Now I notice a couple of surprises in #1 incubator.. I will have to check the trays and see where they hatched from.. Maybe there are more to hatch...prolly are,, I usually set more than 6 guineas at a time..

They're gonna have to rename your Town.... Guinea Town USA !!!

I have 4 due to hatch on the 3rd. I wrote all of the dates on the egg, set date, hatch date, lockdown date, an still managed to put them in lockdown to too, normally to late !!! So we shall see if they hatch. These were from batch of eggs where the cord came unplugged and only the guinea eggs survived. All of the eggs got cold so they could have been unplugged for a day or so??
Went to add water and discovered it was unplugged.

As of two days ago I saw movement in 1 of the 4 guinea eggs. So we shall see. A week ago all 4 were moving about !!

So keeping my fingers crossed that all 36 that I got from Jim at the bash will do good. I added a few of mine as well so ?????? Lilke I really need more mouths to feed !!!

Nope not Pigs !!!! Keep guessing. I haven't ventured outside yet today. Chuck is out there. Comes in for cold water now and then so I know he is still with us !!

Jim I love it "Accidently filled the bucket with road bed" We have a spot down by the cemetary where they local road crew dumps extra gravel etc. We've purposedly on accident done the same thing !!! But of course not since our tractor is out of commission. Wish DH would get it down to Antigo for it's overhaul !!!

We've got fence posts to put in and horse fence to go up.

Afternoon All... we use loads of garlic here. It's best to plant in the fall on columbus day. It is Oct 10th. We have the purple stripe variety usually, however I never got mine planted last fall. I was busy bow hunting and forgot all about it. I think any variety is worth trying.
Picked my first broccoli head today. Now new heads will form and keeping them cut will continue to produce even more til fall. The variety I had last year was a non stop producer. We were eating broccoli salad for months last year. The nueskes bacon makes excellent salad.
Basic chores are the only thing getting done here today. My basement is cool and I seem to haveta run down there for a breath of cool air, every so often.
Wish I was swimming.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with everyone. MLH, so glad to hear that you're okay. Just take it easy, okay? And Cind, I hope poor ole Duke is hanging in there. When they get that age, they have good and bad days. you'll know when it's time.

And I hope everyone is finding a place to stay cool and hydrated. Tomorrow is hay baling day at my place, and I'm looking at about 550 bales, so I really hope this heat makes its way through tonight. I've got to get out and do some shopping for the food and beer for the crew. (Anyone interested in getting an old-fashioned workout?)

I made it to Madison today and got to see the burned building up close. Only the exterior bricks remain on the upper stories. The restaurant is on the first floor (of four), and only suffered water and smoke damage, but the building still might be too structurally unsound to put back in use. It's really sad, such hard work went into it, and they served fantastic food. I'd love to have a BYC get together there sometime with Madison-area folks if things start looking up.

And you know how I've been whining about low egg production? Well, now that the restaurant is closed, I thought the egg numbers would work out just about right for my other customer. But wouldn't you know it; the last few days the girls are getting back up to high production, good shells and all. Murphy's Law strikes again! Those ducks are sure enjoying their pool today!

Sorry to hear that the resturant may not be functional. But TG no one hurt or killed right? Did they find out how the fire started?

Was looking on craigs list and look what I found..... How would ya'll like to see me pull up with is for my camper at next years bash????

Oh, my! FT, it looks like a chicken coop on wheels. You'd be fitting right in with all those Kentucks up there. You just need a matching pair of bibs like your DH's.

And a piece of straw to chew on!

Holy hotness! I actually feel much better now that I took my work clothes off and have on nice and loose comfy clothing! Sitting in the yard with a cold drink is good too

DH just went inside to get us some bowls of Tabbouleh salad for supper...mmm, nice and cold! The lab that I was walking today scared up a little spotted fawn from the side of the road...scared me to death! We only took a 20 minute walk today--way too warm to walk on the blacktop!
Hey Jim...the torts dont jump out of their enclosure...they fly silly! (these mosquitoes can quit biting my ankles any time!)
You guys are lucky that you have AC (those of you that do) As long as I dont go in and out I am OK but today was too much car time.
You are lucky that you can get people to help you SHanti...I have a load of hay out in the driveway right now to be unloaded. I dont mind doing it but I sure dont like to do it with my family! All they do is moan and groan the whole time. And DH cusses and I hate that! Makes a not fun job even less fun!

Well--I have to go off to the fair...need to set up for judging tomorrow. I have to call the pullorum tester too and see when she can get out to test the chickens also. So much to do and no energy to do it! Have a nice night...Terri O

Our birds are in Horse Creek -- between New Richmond and Osceola in NW Wisconsin. At present ten 6-week old Black Copper Marans. Right now it appears to be 4 cockerels though we are waiting for the colors to come in to know for sure!

Welcome, Matt!

Glad you joined us! You will find you need to set aside daily time to keep up with all the posting that goes on here.

Thanks everyone for the kind words about Jon's restaurant. And yes, THANK GOD no one was hurt. That was the biggest concern. There are a lot of people without homes now, though. Out of 24 renters, only 4 had renter's insurance. The only thing they know about how is started is that it didn't start in the restaurant. It was somewhere in the upper storeys.

TO...the people that are helping bale are my neighbors. We work on each other's fields, and whoever is hosting the crew puts on a dinner. It's pretty sweet.
