give them lots of shade outside the coop if possible and put ice in the water dish.. or change water often..

to help cool down the coop, spray water over the roof and outside walls once in awhile.. evaporating water cools..

The weber is fired and venzun burgers are almost done. I remember sometimes to add the apple wood to the coals for extra flavor.

I just allow the women to free range in the shady areas...they will go back to the coop when it's almost dark....go ahead and give em a chance at life.

Although My poor Butt Dog (Buttons) is cropped out a bit !!

She'll live. Oh and by the way, she was so pooped out after the weekend !! She is used to going everyplace with us but she has never "camped out" or partied so hard !!! It was so cute. The bunks didn't really give her enough room without being kicked off so she knew right away to just jump up on one of the chairs in the room and made her own "doggy bunk". It actually was a tad bit softer then the bunks, she's no dummy !!
I can't see where we were filled in !! Good job. Only complaint is if you were going to be fiddling with the pictures couldn't you have made me about 40lbs lighter as long as you were at it???
lau.gif
I hate my picture taken by the way. Next year I'm hiding behind Dr Haha !!

Well, DH, Chuck came out with his new bib overalls on !!! And he wore them to town !!! Is going to get some getting used to !! Don't get me wrong. I don't think anything or even notice when someone wears them, just not used to seeing him with them on. Just weird !!!

So coming back from town we stopped at a friends to pick up a book I borrowed her. Guess what we came home with????
I'll let you all think about it. I'll take pictures and post tomorrow. Yes it EATS !!! Only clue I'm giving !!!

Ok, Now I'll go back and read the rest of everyones posts.

Evening all!

Thanks for the care and concern on my behalf. Y'all are so sweet!! I am feeling just fit as a fiddle! Guess a day of guilt free computer games can do that to a girl!
Oddly the heat was not the culprit. The Doc thinks that it was me squatting down and standing up quickly.

The pace maker clinic checked my unit and the results were great....just like normal. It's pacing in the upper chamber like it always does and monitors when it's needed. The magnet test to check the lower chamber and battery life was terrific as usual. Had to listen to yet another comment about the units age.

I think next time someone comments that its "old" I'm going to say: "Yeah, well it was old 10 minutes after it got installed!!"
tongue.png
I always feel ancient when they make "old" pace maker comments..*sigh* It used to make me feel all cool and Borg like but now I just think "Geez.....Did Captain Picard ever go through this with his mechanical heart?" *double sigh*

CC-Yes- passing out in the chicken coop would be very very bad.
lol.png
My dh and I used to joke that it would be very easy to get rid of a body at our house with all of the chickens in our yard!
wink.png
Or to torture some one we did not like!; Mawahahahahah! Chickens are very bad about pecking at things they ought not to peck at. I have an old catheter scar on my hand/wrist and it is a chicken favorite to peck at. That and my cloths.

Silly things!
That is a good reminder about the cell phone. I have one but never think to stick it in my pocket when I go outside. At the barn where I kept my horse it was a no brainer to have a cell phone on my person at all times. But here at home I guess I kinda take it for granted that I can get back into the house!
Also---awesome chicken run! They look so happy!

CL-those chicks are super cute! Love all the colors! But I have to say I think Penny steals the show!

Orloffs....

Dornes-that is a great pic of your Polish! The look on her face is priceless!

Raim-great job on the pic! Now I have faces with names!! Not that I'll remember who is who next year!!

Well, I did water the garden to take a computer break and I have a hanging tomato starting to fruit!
wee.gif

I also have a boat load of volunteer tomatoes from last year along with a stalk of corn and a pepper plant. The tomatoes were Roma's (hybrid?) so I'll leave them to see if I get anything from them. The pepper was a Sweet Banana (hybrid?) so I don't think I'll get anything from the pepper, but the corn was a Golden Bantam (heirloom) so with the other corn stalks I might get some thing from that one.

Have a good night everyone!

MLH- Glad to hear that you are feeling better and the tests checked out good. Also the kids and I are planning to make a couple batches of jam and jelly hopefully this Sat but will probably make more-I just want to make sure they are covered for fair

Well, we finished unit #3 out of the 4 units we had come open this month- unit 4 isn't rented yet but doesn't need much to get it put together if needed- DH thinks he might have someone.

DS(9) had a ballgame tonight- they won again tonight and Tuesday nights game as well. DS(9) made it around the bases so he was happy- he is one of the younger kids on the team.

That was me, who asked what you were trying to hatch!

My DH says he remembers doing that type of welding on large construction equipment- to bad he hates working on equipment with engines smaller than 6L
lau.gif
has a preferance for engines 12L and up!

Shanti, I am so sorry to hear about your son's business. It sounds like he really had a great idea there. I'm hoping he'll be able to reopen it real soon.

Dornes, if I brought home one more cat, I'd be sleeping out with the chickens!
lau.gif
I hope you can find some loving homes for them. The black one has my interest peaked already. Shhhhh!
I just love your pic of Pippa! The look on her face is priceless. She wins my vote.
I paid $18 for the SunShade on clearance, & wouldn't pay a penny more for it, honestly. It is a good size piece of material, 6'x15', but that is all it is really, a piece of outdoor fabric. It is not hemmed, so it is rough on the 6' edges, and it doesn't have any grommets-those you have to buy seperately & they're plastic. I bought one package, found out just how easy they are to break, & went to the tarp & tie-down section & bought some metal ones for a few bucks. But they are made in China too so they rust if you look at them wrong. The material is durable: I had one of them out all winter to help keep some of the blowing snow from getting into the run, and you couldn't tell by looking at it. It still looks just like when I bought it, so that is a plus. But I wouldn't pay full price for it. I can't be positive, but I think it was originally over $30.

Deb, so sorry it didn't work out with the dog. That must have been difficult. Speaking of difficult, how is DH doing?
wink.png
Couldn't you go pick up his meds & have them sitting there waiting for him?

Cind, I love your brooder. Nice job! I guess you managed to not tick her off too bad, hey? They all look pretty happy. What adorable chicks.

Jim, I am just at a loss for words......

Just what you need!

MLH, I'd take an "old" pacemaker over one made in China any day! (I like Star Trek too, BTW). And start carrying that phone!

Thank you for the complements on the run.

My DH did it all; I just hung the screens.

Everyone, please be careful out there tomorrow. It is going to be nasty. And that means you too, DrH! No wood for one day!

Well I didn't get to sleep until 2 am last night and was up by 6 this morning,.
Brought home the salmon favorelle to get her tamed down and she is doing pretty good.
Went and got my rent cashier's check for rent, farmer's co-op for chicken food, and then off to watch my niece run around in this heat for an hour playing soccer.
Watched my niece as that is my summer job, worked with the rider who has been on client's horse 2x now, and then after she left I worked on getting a laid back QH, but
not trained specifically to pony another horse.. to do just that.. with the horse he will be next to on Sunday.
I am picking up a riding lawnmower at a great price tomorrow so had to unload the truck.

And who says i am not busy.... LOL

So... dog advice.. HOW do you stop a small dog from licking bigger dogs ears and faces? Now that the chihuahua isn't trying to mount everything in site...
He then decided to lick the inside ears of my mellow lab cross, I usually tie him up near me OR kennel him if we are gone for a short time...
But now he has turned his "affection" to our neurotic BC/cross and she is tolerating it, but is NOT happy about it.
I tried a stinky oil that has camphor in it... with some what good results... but it doesn't stop him...
I don't want to kennel him ALL day, and tie him ALL night... they usually play together, but after a week of mounting..and being yelled at and tied up... he
finally got the hint, and they played great.... And then he started licking 1 dogs ears, and so back to yelling and being tied up. So then nice playing again...
And now he has started on the other dogs ears....
I can't be here all day now, so do we have to kennel AGAIN....

I am tired, twitchy, but not sleepy... so I think its off to have a bath... and hope it works.
gnite.

:insert cussing here: me and N,E and L went swimming with some friends tonight, had a blast, left DH home to go to bed. lol I get home 9:30pm) and go to close up all the birds, after the young birds were all closed in, I turned to the main coop and noticed that the door was closed?? but not locked??? I open the door and find only a handfull of birds IN the coop!
roll.png
I shine the flashlight around and find around 25 birds roosting ON the go cart!
he.gif
(this is where the cussing goes) some more are behind a sheet of plywood, and the brahma mamas and 12 babies are hidden in the tall grass
barnie.gif
HOW in Gods green earth do you get birds IN the coop at 10pm? 1st wake DH up (his fault right?) 2nd we put a light bulb in the coop and turned off ALL other lights, 3rd removed all the birds from their "roosting" spot. this one is VERY important, DO NOT just toss them down to the ground, CARRY them to the coop! took us a half hour to round everyone back up. THANKFULLY the mams let me put them and their babies into a box/taxi and taxi them to the coop. I didn't get much squaking out of them???
bow.gif
guess they knew I was there to help. HOWEVER we are still missing 2 birds, I have NO clue where they could possible be. hopefully they find me tomorrow

Bigz I found my subway cup, it was in my car
hide.gif
wee.gif
I love that cup
gig.gif
hey when you got 5 kids and you make something to drink in a small cup you get nothing to drink, at least in the subway cup I get something to drink.
I will send out the pics soon to all who asked for it. I could of changed what it said up there in the pic, never thought of it! lol FT, I could have taken a "little off the edges" but then when someone saw you in person they would think you gained some weight
gig.gif
and as for buttons, it was her or your DH that had to get cropped
lau.gif
didn't think your DH would like that lol

on the subject of the chickens pecking you, I learned awhile ago NOT to paint my toenails! today some how I hurt my toe, little bit of blood at the top of the nail, stupid bird pecked it. my natural response was to kick
hide.gif
she didn't go far!
hide.gif
big_smile.png
I got another hen that pecks the backs of my knees
somad.gif
rant.gif
got a goat that puts her front hooves up on my hip, dang near pulled my pj pants down this a.m.
gig.gif

roll.png
