Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Shanti, that's an adorable shot! Glad she is fitting in well. Is that an egg on the ground to the left of the pool??

Goth, glad you checked in! Horray for a soon-to-be baby boy - I have two and they are trouble already but love 'em so much. Wish I would have known about you selling your bator, I might have snatched it up

I just set 6 Cuckoo Marans (from the crazy egg chain) and 8 blue Ameraucana eggs under another broody tonight. The ameraucana lady (barlracer) wasn't too sure of the fertility so she gave me 16 eggs (I asked for 6.) That was nice. Too many eggs for one hen so Julie got 8 of 'em. Now

If things go well, maybe I'll be able to share, Goth.

BL4, we heard the wind. It tossed a stroller off the patio, found it upside down halfway to the creek this morn. Sheesh.

I second Kee - I need a green house like that!!!!!

Ooh, anybody wanna play cribbage next years Bash?

Well...Karma has a way of giving and taking...
I got a "bomb" dropped on me, and it would be easier in one aspect, but perhaps its for the best.
I came out to where I keep my chickens and horses...
My barn owner who is a dear dear friend, can't cut her own hay or bale it this year, the neighbors aren't allowing her..
BUT- they are charging her a small fee.
I am going to have to do self care on my horses now. AND buy my own hay. Now we knew this was a serious possibility of happening after Joan's
stroke.
So now I have to go price hay and then go and get it and find a place to store it.
I have about a week, as they are on a round bale...
sigh... yeah...

amyable- For sure let me know if you have extras! Greenleaf is only about 45 mins from my house (if I drive slow). LOL! It's pretty close to Wayside right?

TO.... how did the fair go?

These were taken in Oct. when we got the house before we moved in.
This is the building that the coops are in... as you can see a part of it was greenhouse. There is no heat or water though so I didn't use it as that... yet. Right now it's storage for the chickens!
hide.gif
The small set of windows is where the small coop is. A door is cut under the windows and I have a run there too.
IMG_0200.jpg

On the left is where the coop is... the run is about 8'out and the with of the building.

This is the side toward the house. I looks so big and empty here! You can see the doors that go to the coop/greenhouse. To the left is where the small coop is. To the right is where the brooder box is. This is where the straw is now and some shelving for storage. DH says just make sure you leave room for the tillers!
lau.gif
We'll see.... we have big heavy duty tarps!

Duke did a little better today. Still not good, but he ate a little and went out twice. I think his hearing is all but gone. Fireworks miles away would freak him out before. The neighbors across the street had some last night and he slept right through them.
hmm.png

Sure wish we would get rain!

I'm sure I missed stuff

Did I miss why Hurley isn't around?

Cinlady, love the coop and storage, would love a coop that size. I am glad Duke is doing slightly better. I hate fireworks, my dogs are so afraid of them. Mine have been quaking for the past 2 nights. We have been spending time in the basement which makes it better. I am doing the classes because teachers are supposed to get 6 grad credits to maintain our license. I finished 12 and taking 6 more because I have a few autistic kids in my class and want to learn how to help them more, plus a few technology classes since most of the kids these days are wired electronically, unlike us, who were brought up in a different time.

Morning all,

Beautiful morning, Chickens have been our since 5:00ish looking for mosquitos and having a good time in the fresh air. I put a solar light in their coop the last few nights, take it out in the am to charge it. I am thinking if the fireworks scare them, at least they will be able to see if they fly off their perches.

have a great day everyone, today or tomorrow is coop cleaning day, It isn't bad but if I keep up with it, it will be easy and a quick job

Good Morning Everyone! Cind they start out on teams but it doen't last very long.
lol.png
Man that building would make a dandy coop with a sun porch too! Glad duke can't hear the fireworks. Can't take pics of the girls their only just over 2 yrs old. Child porn laws ya know. bl4 no one brought any feathers that I know of for whistles. WCc hope you feel better soon! I used to play cribbage too and don't think there would be time at a Bash for cards.

Goth good to hear from you and that the baby is doing good! FT ET is a good man! Very nice buildings! Had to tilt my head at your first pics. MLH and H&R sounds like you had a really nice day makin jams and jellies!
droolin.gif
Susie"J" good to hear the truck fix was easy and cheap! dk good luck on your land management. Never enough space or buildings. Or money or time. The place looks really nice! You've been a busy girl

Morning everyone, got up early and worked on our garden- most of the rows are hit and miss with plants so we'll see what we end up with. Our squash plants, tomatoes and green beans are doing the best, followed by onions, beets and peas. Who was asking about turnips? We planted some and seem to have a nice patch of them- grabbed them by mistake instead of radishes. So if you're close to me and would like some let me know
big_smile.png

Planning to work on the cherry jam today and also get our dehydrator out and dry some bananas(DS 6 just loves them!) along with some other items. Tried the salsa last night and it was good- had a bit of a kick to me(can't eat alot of spicy/hot foods) DH wasn't impressed with it so back to the drawing board!

Better get busy to get it done.... have to work on paperwork later(much later) today....

Well I can see with fair week upon us I wont get too much time to pot...I cant believe it has taken me over an hour just to read up! I think we are more chatty now than ever before...must come from the familiarity hey?
The judging went well at the fair yesterday. I guess since it was a weekend the parents werent so crabby. I really didnt have any altercations like I have in the past. I had 4 very good judges and one floater judge so the lines werent too bad. Everyone did kind of come at once though so some had a long wait. (Not good in such hot weather) We got most of the display set up...just didnt hang the various pictures. We were going to do that today but we both at beat from being on our feet and on cement all day yesterday...guess I will wash chickens instead! Hey H&R--since you and your kids are so god at it how about you can come over and do it...I;ll let your kids jump on my trampoline for a reward....pretty please?
bow.gif

DrH I think I conjured up a whole miniature scene in my head for your girls and their VB tourney...I do love my miniatures...maybe I will make it and enter it in the fair next year! DD25's photos did pretty well in the competition but she thinks the judging is rigged cause the superintendent won firsts in most classes when the other photos were clearly better! Who knows? The other dd19 did well too. I did not do as well on my canning a few seconds and a third and a 4th. Didnt see the other items cause they werent displayed yet.
I am hoping the Pullorum tester calls me so we can set up a time...I hate the last minute stuff and we are getting down to the wire. If she cant get here I sure dont want to go through the hassle of catching them and washing them!

There was a bunch more I was going to say...I guess I am too tired still to recall what I read! I feel like I could go back to bed right now! I guess I will go out and let out the birds--they are probably hot in the coops....and need water and food too. I lost my big Cuckoo Roo
hit.gif
He was in the hospital cage cause his comb was kind of purple and I was medicating him with Tylan50 for respiratory problems....sad...I finally have 3 hens to put him with and was looking forward to big cuckoo babies....oh well, best laid plans eh?

Gotta get these dogs out....my JRT is really gassy today and she is next to me on the couch!
sickbyc.gif
All other animals seem to be fairing well in the heat! Have a fantastic day and drink lots of water! Terri O

good morning all, Pea fowl hatching not going well..
one hatched and is just still laying there,, one died right after it hatched, 3 pipped and quit .. Like there is no "energy" in the eggs.. I think the reason that people have these poor hatches with pea fowl is because they do not feed the adult birds properly.. Or am I missing something ??

Annie missed putting the black guinea rooster in last night.. He used to be the worst one to get to go in.. I guess he hid from her.. well, he did not hide from the fox.. More than once I was almost mad enough to just leave him out.. It is a blessing in disguise, I guess.. He would always lead about 8 other guineas away from the door.. Maybe now the rest will go in without a struggle..

Rooster elimination day is drawing near.. I think we will include a few of the guinea boys..

the quail and tiny guineas are doing fine in the big brooder.. It is sooo big and they are so small and few that it looks empty..
Today we will add about 40 ea.. 4-day olds to that brooder.. They are wall to wall in the chickTV..

going to work in the garden today.. I think it might be dry enough to hill potatoes with the tiller hiller attachment..
Brent, do you have a hiller for your Troy Bilt? I took one wing off and am going to try it on one row at a time.. If it doesn't work, I am gong to build one for the Farmal A.. I have a design in my head for it..

.........jiminwisc........
