Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My my oh my! I actually had to go to page 2 of the social thread to find our little corner of BYC!!!

Just thought I'd catch up but everyone must be oot and aboot on a nice day like this. It's very sticky here so I'm just chillin' in the house deciding on what to do for dinner. I want to make a BBQ Chicken Pizza but we are going to the movies on Friday and where we go the theater is a nifty little dinner and movie-movie house so Im not sure if the dh will want that much pizza in one week. Maybe I'll bake some chicken.....or bbq some chicken......hmmmmm....

FT and Jim-Im sorry to hear about the tooth troubles. Dh had horrendous teeth and he has had many root canals and many pulled teeth. He got them pulled when we had no insurance. He felt as long as the teeth in question were in the back he did not want to spend the money to fix them when they would just break latter on. Needless to say I banned Crunchy Cheetos from his diet after he broke three teeth eating them. He eventually broke a front-ish tooth and the dentist had to cap it because of where it was. That was expensive even with the insurance- it cost us $1400 bucks! I can tell you this though, he said Excedrin headache stuff works great for tooth aches.

Keedokes-Im sorry to hear of your troubles with the car and the ex but am happy that the chicken front is going well!

Well, I suppose I should do something more constructive then sit here.....

See ya laters!

I completely disagree on the beagle front. It is never a blessing in disguise to have your dog leave. I know several people that had beagles, never hunted with them, and they were lifelong indoor pets. Each breed has it's own challenges, but most breeds can fit in with almost any family or lifestyle. You just need to know what you're doing.

It doesn't sound to me like that beagle had any problems with housetraining--she was almost six months old. It may take a little longer for some breeds but if you know what you're doing you can get there.

Gothchick, I'm sorry I didn't say anything earlier (I never could remember your screenname. *eek*) but I'm really sorry about the loss of your pup. I hope you find her.

I hear you about the teeth- one of my molars crack so I went into the dentist and ended up getting it crowned- came out $1,000 poorer for it and on top of that I need to have 5 filling taken out and refilled as the old ones are coming undone

So having a beagle is probably like having my almost 1 year old basset hound in the house... LOL

Still pretty nice out here, not real humid and the sun is staying behind the clouds so it is providing a nice cool afternoon. The sun peeks out and it gets pretty hot....

Beagles are cute, but they are hounds. They are not house dogs, they were bred for rabbit hunting. If they get out or off their leash they will put their nose to the ground and follow it. We've had beagles for hunting and they run! My brother tried to buy one at a petstore as a house pet. Well, he wasted his $500, that dog could not be housed trained. He ended up giving her away.

I am glad somebody else spoke up.. I have been biting my tongue for days.. we used to hunt beagles also.. the old guy I got my pup from told me that a good day's hunt with a beagle is if you can come home with it at the end of the day..

I always said that a beagle goes completely deaf after it is 15 feet away from you..

for in the house, buy a small yapper.. any of the small breeds with the belief that they are huge..(in their minds)..

don't get me wrong, I am not happy that yours ran away,, but it might be a blessing in disguise..

Sounds like you met my Irish Setter, she is great indoors and outside on a leash- never never off, I have had to chase her once when she slipped the leash and it wasn't fun!

Good Luck on finding the pup- it's hard on everyone when that happens

I PM'd you guys a CL ad for a tractor. Let me know what you think. We might be going to look at it. Might be better to buy another tractor then to get our Hunk of Crap fixed.

H & R... are Irish setters as wild child as Gordon Setters? We were given the "wild one" since we were a nice YOUNG couple... as the breeder said... every year we asked when she would calm down, they said by the time she was 3, then by the time she was 6, she went to live with My in laws when she was 7 because she was too hyper and I had the twins and it was too much for me... she is 11 now and just starting to slow down... still begs for treats and pets... but getting better. Hoping we have another year before we get another dog... the kids keep asking... I am not ready even if they are!

We have had our dog for 6 years she can to us when she was 2.5 years old(our youngest DS was just 4 months old), she wil be 9 years old this fall- she is still a wild child as you say, if we're lucky maybe by the time she is 14 years old she will start slowing down

We have had only 1 Gordon in as a foster and she was nuts! We have had other Irish Setters in as fosters and each one is different- we even had 1 that was pretty smart! We also have an 11 month old Aussie pup now and she is as smart as a whip- the other end of the spectrum so to speak.

to all who are new, I would say we are a great group of people and everyone is very helpful!

Have to finish eating and get the kids ready to go for DD(11)'s fastpitch softball games- going to Farmington tonight!

Don't even get me started on hyper dog breeds. ET came home with a Chocolate lab puppy last fall !!! She is adorable, getting a nice solid head on her but she is WILD, I can't handle her !!! She is SO HYPER. The neighbors have a yellow lab that is the same age as my GP. When they were pups the yellow lab would come over (from a mile away) pick up Rex (who stayed in the yard) and they would wanter into the woods, swams etc. Then Yellow dog (his real name is smokey) would drop Rex off and go home !!! Yellow dog was also so hyper. I never really told the neighbors that I didn't care for him even after they would make comments about not liking toy poodles, which is what I also had.
On that topic, I LOVE SMALL DOGS, they really aren't dogs !!! They are BABIES at least to me !!! Once you've owned a small dog (yes even the yappy ones) You will look at every small dog and see in their eyes their wonderful little personality. My little Daisy (cream toy poodle) thought she was so tough. Once years ago she chased the mail carrier lady and she turned around and was laughing !!! Poor Daisy, being laughed at while she was protecting me !!!
So I would take another poodle or small dog in a heartbeat !!! Yesterday when I went to pick up some ground beef from a farm their neighbor had Standard Poodles !!!!!!! I would love one of those too !!!!
