Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well we are driving out to Oconto tomorrow around 11am to go meet the new dog and see if he fits with us. If anyone in that area wants some extra pullet chicks I still have quite a few left and because I had some die they are sending me more this week for replacements.

If Oconto is close to anyone I can bring some chicks along and you can just meet me and get them. They are all assorted females chicks and I am asking $4 each to cover the costs for the chicks, shipping, box fee, food etc. Just let me know before 10 am tomorrow because that's when we will be leaving our house.

not so good in that department, will some knowledge of Latin make up for it?

Never fear, Breac. We'll have you a whiz at math in no time! Chicken math!

MLH, a tomato cage works pretty good for blackberry or raspberry bushes if you have an extra one lying around.

Dornes, good luck with the farm!

Sorry to hear about everyone's toothaches. Hope they get better soon. Jim, maybe the secretary was suprised they weren't made of wood?

Kee, sorry about your car troubles.

Hurley, those are some beautiful dogs. You'll get some beauties no matter what they are.

Bigz, thanks for the chicken info. Much appreciated, as always.

Spent the afternoon shopping with mom today. We'll prolly be taking her up north this weekend to visit my bro. Hopefully SIL will come check on the chickies.

I let Dottie loose from her quarantine this AM. She looked awful perky & ready to go join her sisters, & was walking much better. The young girls have integrated into the flock without much drama. I just love having the divider in the carport. It sure comes in handy to separate chickens for a period of time but still keep them used to each other. It worked beautifully, thankfully. Now we just have to get the youngsters to sleep in the coop at night & we'll be all set. Think we'll get it done before Friday?

Hey guys, Bigz, Haha and Jimbo. I talked with a neighbor that knows his $h!T about tractors and he said he looked into getting a Belarus last fall and went to price parts should he need a repair. Get this he said to rebuild an engine himself would have cost $9,000.
So needless to say we won't be looking at that tractor !!! Just my luck I'd get the tractor cheap and find out it would need major repair too. One lawn ornament tractor is enough around here !!!

So back to the drawing board. I'll keep watching CL and see what pops up or wait until he desides to put ours back together so we can get it in for an overhaul or ???????? Getting tired of waiting. Summer is half over and my horses still don't have pasture.

Anyway, Hurley, you ought to get some real nice pups out of Bubbles and that gorgeous boy !!

Can't wait to see those pictures.

Just woke up from a nap (neighbor returned my call) so don't remember what end is up quite yet. Will reply more later if I don't fall back to sleep.

There is no way I am reading over 10 pages of posts.......

Back home from our little mini-vacation. I am happy to see that people in Southern WI did not sustain too much damage from the storms that rolled through on Monday morning; in Northern IL that was not the case. The storms that hit Gurnee, Libertyville, etc. were packing winds over 70mph, which caused extensive tree damage and of course massive power outages. At one point over 800,000 people did not have power (including my Aunt). The area my cousin lives in managed to escape the tree damage and the power outages, so we were pretty lucky. We had been planning on going to Great America yesterday, but due to the tree damage and the massive power outages they had to close the whole park down for the entire day. We did manage to go today, but I would say that 80-90% of the park was not functional due to lack of power. We spent our time at the new waterpark addition, so we are all sporting new sunburns..... anyway, when we left IL today at 5 PM, they still had areas with no power, traffic signals that were non-functional, tree debris that still needed to be cleaned up, and my Aunt was still out of power.

Since I have to work tomorrow I'll be brief with the rest; the Renaissance Faire was HOT........ but rather interesting. I think if I could go without a bunch of crabby kids it would have been more enjoyable.

The company picnic at the zoo was wonderful! We all enjoyed ourselves and took tons of pictures of the animals.

I'll try to get some pics up soon of the baby calls.

Evening All...
Well the total wet bales equals about 45, some with small spots of wetness.. others with MORE or soaked with rain. DH took the day off to unload the good bales I had stacked off to one side, and then stack them on the dry stack. I had to babysit ALL day
I moved the mama hen and her 5 chicks into a larger area.. the minute she was out of the cage, she started to dust bathe... and one after the other, her 5 babies started to do the same..
SOOO CUTE!
I am sitting here with an ice pack on my cheek, since I have a tooth ache, due to a rotten tooth. Time to go see the dentist.. and fork over a big fee.. and get it taken care of.

SO last weekend I went for a ride with a friend, and I took my camera.. she is an amazing photographer, and I guess my camera is pretty good too!!

So is that your friend or you? Nice to put a face to a name.

So you are officially a member of our Achy Breaky Tooth Achy Club then !!! Tonight was actually the first time I chewed my supper on the left side of my mouth without pain. Makes me believe the pain was coming from the small fillilng after all and not the molar that they say is dying !!!

Who was it that said to try excedrin Headache medicine. Just beware it has caffine in it so you will be up all night, although with a bad tooth you may be anyway !!

PS Found something else I want on CL, good thing he is a long ways away !!

As far as dogs go... I vote MUTT! And when Duke dose finally go to "green fields" we will probably give another old dog it's last years.

Moved the chicks and keets to the small coop and they love it! I didn't get the roost in yet but they didn't have one before so I don't think they'll miss it yet. The keets are trying to fly and the chicks are fallowing suite. Allot of flapping going on in there!

So cute! The keets have to learn what a window is though

Well, very tired... night!

Morning All!

Bigz-that tip about the nest box curtain is great! I would have never thought about that! I've had all sorts of nest boxes over the years and I can say I wish I had done that years ago! I have had my share of egg eaters and let me tell you I have no patience for them. The worst ones were a pair of young OEGF cockerels. They were so bad that I finally did them in. I tried everything! But when it got to the point of Habanero hot sauce laced eggs, which they still ate, and then asked for beer and tortilla chips I'd had enough! Off with their heads!!

bl4-glad to see you back and that you had a fun time even though the storm kinda cramped your trip!

WCc-love your pic! That horse is very nice looking! Love those bays!

FT-I'd love that barn! But it would take up my whole space of land! The chickens would love it just as much as me! Maybe someday I'll have a barn like that! Love those Mini's! I'm sure you can find them closer to you for just the same money though.

GC-good luck with the dog today! I hope it works out!

CC-Good idea on the tomato cages for the black berry bush! I will have to give it a try. I think I will have to put the cage upside down to fit around the bush better.....
I have the raspberry and black berry in huge containers. Last year was the first with the raspberry and this year she is going to town with the berries! I just planted the black berry so hopefully next year I'll get fruit.

I also use seven dust for mites and lice although I grab the bird, and dust away. It works great and gets everything in one treatment. You can also get a spray at Farm and Fleet called Poultry Protector. It's a mitecide (sp) that you squirt the birds with. I have used it, but I like Seven dust better.
With that, I'd best be off. Got to go take care of the Girls and rabbits. Have a great day everyone!

Well, all this dog talk has me looking on all of the area CL's. Found a couple poodles that I want but don't need !!!
barnie.gif

Anyway, I saw this and thought maybe someone might be able to help http://appleton.craigslist.org/pet/2472072095.html Thought of your Hurley? Maybe you can recommend a place.

It is so sad looking through the pet thread on CL. There are so many older dogs needing homes. Or should I say older dogs that the owners have decided to rehome. I can understand life changes and sometimes it is best for the animal to rehome due to finances, illness or death but for crying out loud some people change rehome just because !!!!! Poor poor animals.

So with that said, I think we should all take home another dog or cat or two !!! Or rabbit, guinea pig, snake, hamster, iguana, etc. Check out the local CL and see for yourself. It is so sad.

Alot of lost dogs too !!!

Want a free Bike???? There is an ad for a dog that loves to run along side a bike. Owner is moving overseas and can't take the dog. So they will include the bike and attachment for it.

And if you don't have room for a dog or cat. Check this out. Mouse needs a new home and not to TO's house !!! http://appleton.craigslist.org/pet/2471269495.html

If the husky doesn't work out check out his little guy http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/pet/2491230142.html
