Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cind, looks like more rain is going to be moving our way. You might want to put a bucket on your bed. Wasn't it just the other day that we were begging for rain?

My garden sure needs it, though. You'll have to PM me your address or directions to your place from 83 in Muk. some time. One of these days, I or DH & I will have to take a ride down to see your chickies, and Duke too. And Ruddy. So glad to hear he is working out. I hope Duke will like the company.

Deb, either of those dates works for me.

Hurley, I echo Jim's query, what are grinnys? Ground squirrels?

And Bigz, I agree with BL4's query, why cull a roo because he is blind in one eye? I have a roo who is blind in an eye, One-Eyed Jack. He's a banty & is 9 years old. He does just fine. Has an attitude like all heck, too, but is scared to death of my other roo, Moose. I hope you can figure something out for him.

So sorry to hear of your continued poultry troubles, Carol.

DrH, I love my black Aussies. Very smart, friendly birds. I have one that sits on my lap every day. Oh! Oh! Oh! Guess what?!?!?!?!? She laid an egg today! My aussie pullet, Ezmerelda, laid her first egg this morning. I was so happy! Now if only the PR's would get the hint & start stepping it up again. How old are yours, DrH?

Yes, Raim, I would love a bash pic with names, please.

Well, better go finish up pulling some weeds. Wait, is there such a thing?

What a lucky man to have a long one and a short one !!! You should feel blessed !!!

Are you going to use the long hose or short hose to spray the kale ??
lau.gif

I'll give it 18 months. He can maybe keep his fingers crossed that long waiting for the cashing in !!! If the parents should need to stay with them for any reason I'll give it a little longer maybe 24 months.
12 months apiece !!!

Hey Raim
I think $5.00 would be a fair price. What I have seen is the starting price as day olds lets say $2.00. The price goes up $.50 per week. That is what the guy Paul in Amherst does. But he orders his chicks from the hatcheries and doesn't incubate etc adding to the expense.
People just don't understand how much it costs to hatch out or raise chicks. They eat a HE!! of alot of food. I can't wait til mine grow up so they slow down !!!!

Sure wish I had a dishwasher !!!!! I'm going to start looking on CL for a portable one on wheels. We have one up at the cabin and it would work out fine for just us two. Only problem would be hooking it up to tha faucet. DH ET put one of those pull out fancy faucets on that you couldn't put an adaptor on for the Dishwasher !!!

So I take that back.... I don't need a dishwasher..... I need a WIFE !!!

7 little bitties in the brooder. Thanks Goth!

It will be interesting to see what they grow up to be. We did find that little ice cream shop...haven't had an iced mocha in eons, mmmmmmmm! And DS4 still has some Superman ice cream on his face, lol.

Now gonna have to do some creative shuffling, all these different aged birds. My 2 broodies have got 3 chicks each; still contemplating taking them away, or leaving each mom with one. Down to 1 chick from the first hatch, and its a boy. These noob moms,

BL4,

I did not mean to come across snotty, sorry if I did. Was just saying that these gals were outside with mom from the get-go, and didn't come to us til at least 2 months old. Really hope mom was a good teacher, and they were good students.

Expecting some Buff Orp eggs in the mail. Thinking the PO lost them, shoulda been here 2 days ago.

Yep, bought all the fencing that they had in stock. Filled the trailer to the brim. Was a long and bumpy ride (all 600 miles of it) but we made it home in a couple of pieces

Hi There. I live near Waukesha and I'm looking for a few bantam pullets. Not fussy about the type, but would like something relatively quiet and friendly. I've been watching Craigslist but I was just wondering if anyone on here knows of anyone who may have some for sale in WI. I wouldn't mind traveling 40 or 50 miles for some nice bantams. And has anyone here kept Campines? Are they quiet? They strike me as a flighty bird but my daughter came across some and fell in love with them. Of course they were free-ranged all day and my birds only get out a few times a day when I can be with them since we have so many hawks in the area.
Right now I've got quite a mixed flock. I've got a bantam buff cochin (with a perpetually worried look on her face), a bantam RIR, white lap-sitting EE, Barnevelder, Light Sussex, and a blue Ameraucana. I've had a lot of pets in my life, but I have to say for entertainment value, nothing beats a chicken!

Oh,

Almost forgot, 4 out of my 9 guineas that I got from Jimbo hatched today. One out my 1 has hatched as well.
3 days early and that was even with the electric going out for one day.

Little buggers were doing jump rope with the turner that was still plugged in.
ep.gif
I was going to put them in lockdown tonight !!!

Looks like one may be dead in shell all of the others are pipping. I took the turner out and increased the humidity since I opened it up. Hope I didn't screw things up.

So if all goes will there will be 9 new little faces around here !!

Afternoon all! Got a good bit of rain over night and this morning! Yay!

Went to check out an auction this morning, sadly only found one thing I wanted and two DH wanted and the prices were nuts! You could buy new for just a couple of dollars more...oh well. And of course 20 minutes after we got home, who should be here? Yep, the stalker. Had called and asked his daughter and her friend if they wanted to do something with her today (fishing for an invite to hang out no doubt!)...sheesh. Friday while he was in Chicago (putting her brat on a plane and picking up Em's friend from Florida) she called and said, I think I'll rent a car and come see you today. He said sure go ahead, but I'm not there... needless to say, she didn't show up! LOL But I KNOW we'll see her every day between now and Wednesday... after all she knows no one else here so what else would she do?? Wednesday can't come soon enough!!! And DH is bucking for "Dope of the Year Award" with his " I don't understand what the problem is, if you trust me" Bull....

Got my vote Goth, good luck!

I'm with jim, what's a grinny??? only thing I can think of is a chipmunk.

BBP hope your hen recovers quickly!

Carol glad they were found safe and sound! Nothing like panic to start the day, eh?

Raim, I'd like some bash photos please!

CC congrats on Ezmerelda's egg! Love the name too btw!

Waiting for it too cool off a bit so I can put some mulch on the flower beds I weeded yesterday. Third time I've weeded the beds, so shouldn't be too much laying in there now to cause problems after I mulch

Hey, let me have my delusions if I want!!! I'm all for optimism
