I use sweetpdz bought at Mounds. A little goes a long way. It doesn't take a lot and it eliminates flies & knocks the odor right out. Safe to use in chicken coops and I use it in my duck runs, too. http://www.sweetpdz.com/

Well here is the new guy. The first picture is from his old owners when he was younger and the other two I just took. He is pretty scared yet so it's hard to get a good picture of him. He is only 1 1/2 so he is only half grown because the breed can take 3-4 years to grow and fill out completely but he is already bigger then my other cats.

I hang a fly motel right by the Girls, mine got full so I need a new one. It works well, but I also spray the area with Bronco Fly Spray. I have the dairy right next door so flies are always around. I'm going to order some garlic powder to add into their feed to see if that helps. I used to feed my horse garlic powder and it worked amazingly well- I never had fly problems. There are also these little bugs called Fly Predators. You place them in manure and leave them be. They feed on the fly larva. They work amazingly well.

Who here is within driving distance of La Crosse? We have a large organic layer flock that will be going out to live markets this week to be replaced by a new flock next month. The hauler is coming early though so I may be stuck with a couple tons of 17% organic layer mash in the bin. It won't last until next month and will probably mold in the bin by then so I need to clean it out.

If you want a few weeks worth for your flock, whether it be a bagful or a few drums full, drop me a line. I'll know by this coming weekend how much is left.

FINALLY! The end of cherry pitting!
big_smile.png
I have the pitter Jim was talking about; the one with the hopper and the pit container. It works pretty well, sometimes if the cherry is not just 'right' in the pitting area the plunger will miss the pit though.

I had a lazy day today. My youngest DD had a freind spend the night last night so we spent the whole day watching the first season of Glee on Netflix. I did finish off the last 2 pails of cherries (took about an hour), but now there are the two boxes of peaches staring me down for tomorrow. Thank goodness I am not canning them! I think I would melt!

Broke down and bought flea shampoo for the dogs and flea spray for the cats: the DE is not doing much of anything to those nasty buggars. I just don't want to bomb the house but I think we may have to in order to exterminate them completely. I spent yesterday morning vaccuming floors, bathing dogs, washing towels, and spraying cats. There are two critters that have no purpose on this planet: fleas and mosquitoes.

Anyway, off to have a fire at a friends house. S'mores for the kiddos!

Later!

Evening all! Just took the dogs on a very short walk, and they are currently laying at my feet cooling off. Getting wore out running herd on the new guy. He tries to play with Murphy and Muph comes unglued. Last encounter turned quite vicious on both sides but thankfully no one was hurt. DH is convinced he will turn out to be a great dog, I'm now having doubts. And lovely hubby is leaving me again for 3 days with them totally alone, no help from DD and her friend as they are headed to chicago for two days before they return to Florida. So while they are out boating, eating the world's best fondue and having a ball, I'll be at my wits end with the mutts.

The interview w/the placement agency was a wash... they place mostly industrial (had to sit through 45 mins hazardous chemical safety tape, blood borne disease film before finding out they have little if any office jobs... sigh. On a bright note have second interview at Furry Babies (which if I get it will be a short job for sure... not a big pet store fan, but at this point, I need a job!) tomorrow at 12:50. Sent off my resume to a propane place looking for a customer service person too... somebody has to want me

Glad all I have to do tomorrow is go to the interview, I'm wore out...was awake at 1:45 this morning and finally gave up trying to get back to sleep at 2:45, makes for a long day.

DH had his dr. appt this morning... the "mass" they found is about the size of a small curd of cottage cheese. Doc said not to worry, it can't grow fast and he won't die, worse comes to worse will be easy to remove. Big sigh of relief.

Then he got his butt chewed for not taking all his meds and still smoking... so tomorrow he puts on the patch and starts taking all his meds. Men. 'Nuff said.

Kee those ducks are adorable!

Dornes congrats to you and the kiddies on all the wins! Professional photographer, eh? Neat. Would love to see the winning photo!

zsazsa sounds like a fun week ahead, hope the weather cools off a little for ya (and all the rest of us too!)

Jim, I've learned never to read your posts while drinking cuz you can always elicit a good laugh. Had a lovely picture of dragging a kicking screaming kid into the tatoo parlor and giving them the list...

Just had a vision of Kristip's poor little "slightly off silkie" waking up tomorrow with flies stuck all over her...

Goth your new kitty is very handsome!

Mac that's a generous offer, wish I had chickens!

Have a great evening all.
Deb

Good evening everyone...the window AC unit is cranked and the humidity is dropping in here! Whew!
Hey Kee...is that my duck? I am so glad he found a home with you...he was certainly a sweetie. I will show DD his pick. She didnt want him to stay here cause he was so tame...tame critters have a hard time with the other "normal" ones here!

Have fun at the fair zsa! We are going on Friday with DH's company....IF he gets home from Missouri in time! I grew up very near the State Fair and we were there for the whole week I swear! It is soooo different now though; I was in that neighborhood last week and hardly recognized it. I am anxious to see all the changes on Friday for sure!

BBP--I dont want to start a war here but; may I ask why you are against neutering? I guess I cant see any real reason not to except if you have a show dog or something and need to keep them whole...and I guess I still have a little problem with that...so If you dont mind my asking...

Good thoughts going out to the Buzzmaster! That is really crummy! Poor thing...

Kris--I use the fly predators here...am on my 4th year with them. THey work really great! THis year has been odd though cause there seem to be more than normal. I also have traps (Big Stinky) that work fabulous! I am on my 3rd fill of the pheromone and they just keep on coming! I use 3 big ones and one small. I never have to use any fly sprays on my horses though...

GOth--sweet looking cat! He kind of reminds me of Jerry V's cats that he breeds. Gosh, cant remember the name now--sure hope that "brain pill" gets here soon!

Anyone going to take Mac up on his offer of chicken food? Man, I sure wish Gas wasnt so expensive! I would take a drive out there...maybe I will PM him and see any how. I just spent a bucket load at the mill again today--story of my life!

Good luck with the fleas BL4! YUK! In all my years having dogs I have not had that problem...knock on wood! We did have one cat one time that had them from the farm he came from but we caught it in time before the house got infested. I think the only way to get rid of them now is a house bombing...but if you can wait a bit they say that if you put Frontline or the equivalent on your animals they will eventually all be killed the fleas NOT the animals!)

Good luck on the job DKV! I hope your dog settles in too. My daughters just took ours to the lake so they could swim. THey have been kind of naughty lately because we havent been taking them to the dog park...gotta get in that groove again soon for sure!

I watched the torts today until they went into their house for the night. They both went in all by themselves! I am so glad. I did watch Rita try to do some climbing (not flying Jim) and she ended up on her back STUCK! Great, more for me to worry about while I am at work. They finally retired after lots of snacks...I will do a bit of reinforcing tomorrow I guess. Man, the place will look like Fort Knox by the time I am done with it!

Hey CInd--Turk's baby is getting stripes just like him! He is soooo adorable. For those of you that dont know Turk he is a striped half Turken that I got from Cind last fall (?) I think? He has a few ladies that he keeps in the barn and there is one baby with a nice naked neck! SO adorable.

BigZ, are your BUckeyes laying yet? I am still waiting for eggs. ALso waiting for some from Jim's Blue Ameracaunas and also from the Wheaton girl from H&R! I should be fairly rolling in eggs once all of those birds start laying! (not that I need any more really...but the color will be nice!)

Gotta go and lock up critters (except for the torts) and feed cats...have a great night...I am going to make some popcorn for dinner...wanted the tomatillo soup but that needs to cook in the slow cooker so I will put it on in the morning. Nighties! Terri O

Yep, that's your duck, Terri! He's a sweetie--so inquisitive. Every time I go in the run he moves a little ways away from me and then cocks his head up and peers at me with his blue, blue eyes. He keeps his girl behind him, just in case. They're adorable.

I think I'm going to miss State Fair this year--I hope all of you that are going have a blast! I'm sad to miss it.

Goth--that kitty is cute.

I was interested in hearing about the flies, too. Wish I could get that stall stuff around here, but I don't think I can.

Good luck on jobs, on fleas, on new birds, and on finding a home for that food, to everyone else.

I just think the health risks neutering creates outweigh the benefits for me. I don't keep females, he doesn't wander or pee in the house. There's just no reason for me to do it. And I don't care what anyone says, the lower testosterone levels affect metabolism and cause weight gain. Its not very often that I see a lean older neutered dog.
