Dornes & Bigz, thank you for sharing your tales about the city folk. I too "love sharing stuff from the country in the city". I grew up in the city but had a lot of family that lived on the outskirts. Now that I'm out further than them & (usually) have garden bumper crops of fruits & veggies, eggs and canned extras, they are amazed. And the "city folk" almost seem downright shocked sometimes. It sure makes me smile to see the reactions. What a blessing to be able to cause such a response.

Sorry to hear about the gates, Bigz. That sure is a shame. Too bad you couldn't have found the culprits & made them fix it.

evening, I guess I was a bit hasty about that push lawnmower..
I went back out a couple of hours later and It went back to it's old way of running for a few seconds and quitting.. Tomorrow I will get a new primer pump bulb for it.. I thought that was the trouble at first, and now I think it is again..

wild rabbits are notorious for fleas.. anything that lives in the ground has fleas.. when we were kids, there were swallows that burrowed into the sand banks along the river where we swam.. we would put our hands into the holes and pull them out just covered with fleas..

Dornes,, 3 times 5 ft 2 is 15 and a half feet..!! nice corn.. I have never seen corn that tall either.. If I told you once, I told you a trillion times,, don't exagerate ..

Brent, bring your blades along when you come.. I don't know it they will be sharper, but I can guarantee to make the sparks fly..LOL
those guys give a whole new meaning to gate crashers..

CelticChk and TO.. once I was kidding Annie about getting another wife.. she said, go ahead, if you can find somebody..
But she had better like to do housework and laundry..LOL

Since so many of you have had not the best of days, I hope you will find some small enjoyment in these pics. Hopefully these will help you enjoy the new day that awaits you tomorrow.

Speaking of kids, had an Amish couple stop the other day. One of their sons ran away from home, headed off somewhere to find a job and leave the community. Were asking if we had seen or heard anything. Said if we did to let the local CO-op know. Felt bad for the parents, but I have heard some horrible stories from a lady who helps the amish leave the community (underground so to speak) - and I am pretty sure I would be running away too. And once you are found and brought back... well, lets just say they wish they were still "missing" and on the run.

I thought the Amish kids could go on -The Amish rite of Rumspringa! Literally 'running around'.
They aren't baptized into the faith until they are adults, or so all the shows I seen and documentaries say... That they have to spend some time in the outside world in order to make a truly informed decision...
WOW... this changes things...
But then again our local Amish are very liberal in comparison to some sects I have heard about and read about...

Have a great night all,
carol

Busy day today!

DrH... WB!

Jim...Sorry about your guinea... 1 down and how many left? All those birds and you have a bug problem?
gig.gif
What do you use to sharpen those blades? I haven't found a bench grinder yet and hand sharpening I've never been too good at
hmm.png
Don't think the mower blade will fit in the knife sharpener!

WCc... So sorry about Jones dog! Hope they find out who the backsidees that did it!

TO... I'm sure you did what you could for Turk.... I hope Turk's baby turns out to be cool too. Any idea what it was? I was thinking something with his ears, or where ever birds equilibrium comes from.

FT...Cute chicks! ALL of them!
wink.png
Sucks about the water
sad.png
Glad you had a good time with family! Sorry your dog did so much damage! Wow, would not of thought a Pyrenees would do that.
hmm.png
Are you sure it was him? So sorry about your friend! I didn't hear anything either...but we don't get the paper anymore.

kris.... I have TONS of tomatoes coming! There were so many "volunteers" from last year that sprung up after I planted the 15 plants I bought! However I only have 1 butternut squash mound that survived. Wish I could trade!

BigZ... sucks about the gate. Was anything taken or wrecked? I hear ya' about having a truck! I'm looking into getting some "Tattler" reusable canning jar lids. Cost more, but last for years.

Well, the humidity dropped and I feel much better! Actually got some work done! Not as much as I wanted, but more than I have been able to do! Weeded a good hunk of the garden and hope to finish over the next few days. All I could do before was TRY to keep the weeds away from the plants.
hmm.png
Have to finish staking tomatoes too before they get ground rot.

I freeze all the tomatoes I am going to can. I found that when I semi-thaw them the skin slips right off along with any blemishes or rot. I let them drain in a cullender for a while and maybe give them a squeeze. What I have left is pulp with not near as much water. Great for sauce! I like mine a bit chunky BTW.

The kitten is doing well. I can't stress how tiny she is! Too young to be gone from mama. This has me rather stumped too. She is very friendly and seems to like people. If she's been brought up around people who in there right mind would let a kitten so young and small wonder off? Who would take it from mom so soon? If mom were feral why isn't the kitten wilder? Weird. Son said she came out of the woods. There are houses close, but no one seemed to be looking for her. One of the cats I think wanted to play with her but she's a bit scared yet. The other cat... well, she's very possessive of me.
love.gif
And she is QUEEN of the whole house! So between the new dog and now a kitten.... she has her nose out of joint!

Well, load the dishwasher and bed. Night!

It's sad to see how there is a lack of respect for other peoples property in general these days- could probably write a book from what we have seen, but if anything positive can be gotten out of it, I can say that my kids are very appreciative of what we have and work for.

I have found lids at Menards to resonably priced-of course not 10 boxes for a $1
big_smile.png
(I wish!!!). My SIL stopped at a store on her way home to pick some lids up and called me asking "what do you pay for lids" of course I can't remember off the top of my head so a I ask her what she found and she replies "$5.99 a box" just for lids, I ask? yep she says, told her to go check the above store, she said they are less... go figure.. I asked her if they were designer lids!

cool pictures by the way, thanks for sharing!

Good Morning Eveyone! Again too much to respond to! I'm going to really try and NOT look in the garden this morning. Won't be able to get back in there until Monday with the upcoming fam reunion. Seriously thinking of not making the noodles but I am gonna make 4 pies. L makes the best marinara ever! I couldn't tell ya the recipe and doubt that she could either. We're gonna try and make pizza sauce this year. The giardiniera turned out so delish it sets my mind reelin with what to put it on. Just was thinking about getting onions in the freezer, guess I'm going in the garden. BUT I'M NOT GONNA LOOK AT THE CUC'S! I'm such a liar. Bigz that sucks about the damages! Dang kids! CC beautiful flowers! Thanks for sharing! Cind I use a 4" grinder but you have to be sure not to turn the metal blue. It changes the hardness of the metal. TO a PM follows this post. The problem with the weather being so good for the garden is that it's also good for the WEEDS! There's so much to do out there but decided to wait for the nice weather next week. Think I can find something else to do in the mean time.

Good morning all--time for just a quick note...yeah right...
RAIM--when you said you were making more I thought that your little side business had taken off! I hope that is the case.
Gorgeous pics CC! When I went out to let the torts out this morning their Hibiscus has 3 blossoms really close together. I am going to see if I can get a pic. I love your Hollyhock ones...mine are already nearly finished. I didnt get any of the "black" ones sprouted this year.
sad.png
That is my favorite color...that and the yellow.
BigZ--doncha wonder what people are thinking when they go and destroy someone else's stuff? You too H&R--I know with rentals stuff is always getting destroyed. I just dont understand it at all.

I am so tired today...DD25 was out late and wouldnt answer a text or call (I HATE that) She was only down the road but I still couldnt sleep. She paid for it though...this morning shse said she was up all night being
sickbyc.gif
I told her she should have called me to pick her up! AACK! KIDS!

Cind--I hope that baby will be nice like Turk too. One of my ducks just hatched another bunch of babies. Had 13 but my dam^ JRT got one this morning! I didnt know she had them upstairs in the barn(she hatched them downstairs) and when I went to feed the horses the dog must have spotted the babies. Good thing they run pretty fast! I NEED to advertise muskovies! If you need butternut squash it looks like I will have a ton this year! We will have to get together!

Elaine--that is great about the plant...did you get the name by chance? I can shoot out to Madison any time so just let me know when you have the plant! Your striped hen is a doll! She follows me all around when I do chores and yesterday was actually begging to be picked up! She "helps" me gather eggs and is always putting her head in my hand looking for treats. Guess I should bring her something and surprise her. I am so glad that you gave her to me! If she is nasty your other chickens must be real sweethearts! I hope you will let me meet them the next time we get together.

I need to water my pickles so they get bigger...DrH--I will be trying that recipe this weekend! Thanks a bunch! Also those lids can be purchased on line...I used to get them through a place called Gardener's Supply. I bought a case each of reg, wide and "63" jar lids and they lasted me 10 years!!! I have to scope out the internet and see if I can find more...they are a fortune in the store!

OK--off to work! Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

good morning, today we are going to off the extra roosters, 1 sorta lame turkey.. prolly a dozen or so birds in all..

Annie called and said that she cannot come up the hwy 39/51 to Wausau from Mosinee.. a tanker truck tipped at the Rothschild exit and the road is going to be blocked for 8 hours.

Cind,,, I use a 4" grinder to sharpen blades.. sometimes I finish them with a file.. sometimes I take them off the mower, and sometimes not.. depends on my mood..

we lose about a bird per week.. I have between 25 and 30 adult guineas.. then I also have more than that in Keet sizes..

Yes, all these birds and still flies and bugs.. the guineas are not encouaged to go down to the garden.. It is a long way from the house and lots of critters in between.. and then there is the road next to the garden.. the guineas cannot resist crossing a road.. LOL

BZ was that $5.99 for a box of 12 ? what the he11 !!! You might just as well buy canned goods at that price.. canning is supposed to save you $$$$

I have all my stakes driven in next to the tomatoes but I have not tied any up yet.. It was too hot to do that kind of work.. with the gramma watch, only one of us can go to the garden at a time.. Annie does the picky type of weeding and I run the tiller through and tie tomatoes, hill the potatoes and spray for bugs..
Annie does most of the bean picking.. which are just starting, btw..

Annie should e home soon, so I had better go out and start the water boiling and get the assembly line set up for butchering..
