Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

hello, I did not catch a pole cat or any other kind of critter..

I did mow some lawn with the push mower.. then Annie brought my parts for the rider home.. I put it all together, and lo and behold, either the idler is too big, or the V-belt they sent me is too short. I might have to find a V-belt at F&F. all the wrong sizes makes the idler rub on the tensioner spring.. that idler won't last long like that..

I have a ton of sticks to pick up where the poplar tree was cut up.. I am soooo happy I cut those poplars down.. they are dirty trees, almost as bad as willow.. I have one of those too..

I used the grass catcher and gave the grass to the penned turkeys.. They were leary of it at first, and then one took a peck at the pile and soon they all were eating like mad..

can I enter my guineas into the chicken race ??

I tried to start the tiller again.. No such luck.. I might have to take the tractor down to the garden to retrieve it.. first comes the rider, though..

I am tired, didn't feel all that well today.. can't take those late nights out anymore..

Hi all!

MLH... I love that pic too... that's why it's now my Avi

I've taken my kids to Red Lobster when they were little. 8,5 & 2 they did fine except the 8yr old ate 8 of my 12 raw oysters! He still loves them!

But that was over 25 years ago.
Dane co. is OK with me... However, Bong I can get to in about 15min.! Mukwanago is closer for me too. But have to be fair to the people to the west too! Love the chicken race idea! LMAO! I got a couple of good runners!

DrH... Your going to just take the breast? Or are you going to 1/4 him? You should make a "charm" out of his beak.... revenge! BTW.... I never name anything I'm going to eat! Unless it's something like "and dumplings" the name I call my b!tch hen! I will say, she calmed down a bit since the roosters came of age.

But they are going to freezer camp within the next 2 weeks.

non... so sorry your dog killed so many birds

TO... Like someone said.... it's all good in a crock pot! good luck getting those eggs out!

H&R... is that a white peahen? Pretty!

Well, Ruddy went after Duke again today... but interestingly by the time I made it to the DR he was in his Time Out place! Didn't even have to say anything... he put himself in Time Out!

Good bad doggy!

Didn't get as much done today as I hoped. Did a bunch of weeding and when I came in for a break I got a call from DS#1 (the one w/MS).... Got to try and get him moved in here this coming week! Hopefully within the next few days. The gal he is living with found out he changed his bank account, now she can't get to his money! Now she's having a hissy fit.

Oh well! The sooner he gets away from her the better! DD did a background check on her and half HER family had her in small clams court! There's more, but I won't get into it here. OH... he'll be bringing his cat!

It's a white peachick-only 2 months old and I am told they are the hardest to tell who is who.....go figure, I'm told it can take up to 2 years as they have no other colors to go by to tell them apart.

Had to go out and check on the peachick this morning already-wanted to make sure it was okay, it will probably take a bit for it to become use to us-nice thing, it is still small so we can hold it.....DS(6) asked if he can take them to the fair!!! He is a cloverbud until 3rd grade
wink.png

The kids didn't believe us at first and DD made her thoughts known on what color the buddy should be... she is hoping this one is a girl! She thinks white is a bit....boring!

Sounds like everyone else is busy too! Enjoy the cool weather

Great Morning Everyone! Yup Cind just going to breast him out. I have some meat birds coming on the 25th so won't need any backs for soup. He's in the run by himself right now. Tick tock his time is running out. CC the 5 min. 3 min. thing is for sealing jars that didn't seal on the first attempt. Pop them in the micro, heat, wipe the jar edge and screw the lid back on. Cute pea chick H&R! MLH that's way cool about the hen races! LMAO too! Gonna have to look into that. Jim hope you get your rider going and can take that belt back. They don't give those away. Wish I had a lawn sweeper or bagger the grass is so heavy and thick this year. LotsOclumps out there. Guess winter will have to take care of it. Today is piddly job day, a lot of small jobs to do. Thinking tomorrow might do the carrots and onions. Gotta go touch up my boning knlfe

Hi all you chickeneers,

My roo that was mauled by the dog is almost back to normal. He's got his girls back and his limp only shows when he runs. Yea!

The sly hen with 8 little black chicks is doing well. She's a great first time mom. No sign of postpartum blues. Four of the babies already have frizzled feathers.

I was woken at 1:30am last night to the yowling of a cat fight outside. My indoor/outdoor cat has some questionable friends that she meets up with at night, and I wondered if she was involved. So I got up and yelled into the night, "Deedles, you get in the house this instant!!!" And Lo, she shot out from the shadows and ran in the house. My God, you try to raise your cats right......

Carol- thanks for the offer... do you know the people with the silkies personally? I have been emailin them with questions for past week. I love the white silkies ( hope Frost er Mr Freeze is doing ok) but nervous about the wry neck with 2 - 5 year olds picking them up. You ahve seen their listening skills in person and they are lacking!
MLH also offered to check them out for me. Look at my luck- we swore the other one had to be a hen... nope!

Anyway... got our kids registered for half day kindergarten yesterday and they are in seperate class rooms- YEAH! Maybe that will cut down on their crazy fighting. TOmorrow I am going to attempt to can pickles with the kids. I have a feeling all my tomatoes will come in a big bulk right before their birthday party which will make it tough to can spaghetti sauce.. although now that I am thinking about it, spells fresh salsa for the party.
Have a gret Thursday!

I really wish I could make it to this meetup! I already committed to a canning party with my mom and aunts! Will be a fun time - and I hope I have the tomatoes to make some sauces and stuff! They are all pretty green right now on the vines and I too have a feeling they are all going to ripen at the same time!

Made chili for supper last night. It hit the spot! Glad to have leftovers because it is always better the second day!

I WANT A PEAHEN AND PEACOCK!!! I am not sure who has the resources to them but put me on your list! I would surely prefer them to be colored though, not white. I have been searching CL for a while now and I can't seem to find anything that is close enough by for me to justify driving to pick one up. Maybe we could arrange a pickup chain from the meetup and I could get it from whoever lives close to me if they go to the meetup and get it for me??? I am by Tomah/Sparta. It doesn't matter if they are older or they are babies.... as long as they are sexed and one of each... man, I don't ask a lot do I?

Visited the amish the other day to get the meat birds butcher date set up. Oct 3 they will be going to freezer camp. And get this... I asked how much and what they all did. Yep... 1.25 per bird for killing, plucking, and cleaning. Not cutting them up - as there is only 7 of them and I would much prefer to have some nice whole birds. They do not do Turkey though. So, called up my dad and told him and said he had to come help with that. He turkey hunts so really - plucking and cleaning can't be all that different from wild turkeys. Other than he doesn't get the thrill of the hunt.... he will deal!

All this talk of horsies and baby/mini pigs and such has me wondering if I am even on the right forum! JK. Those of you that are interested in Jerseys - are you looking for a Jersey for a companion animal (so it don't matter if it is a bull or heifer?). Seriously - we have Jersey on our farm and when they have bull calves we sell them. Usually for 40-45 bucks when they are about 3 days old. They will be on bottle and milk replacer at that time. So.... if you are serious and you want one - let me know (they also make for great cuts of meat!). We have a Jersey due this week. Of course, we are hoping for a heifer calf - but... if it is a bull calf.... I would seriously take a list of those interested and contact you when we have bull calves. And that would make hubby so happy!

The weather has been so great these last couple days. We got the inside of the coop worked on. The 2x4's are up and ready for chicken wire and doors to be hung. Then the back of the nesting boxes needs to be done and it is ready for chickens! Well, not so fast... we have to build the outside run. But I am super excited because it is everything I have ever wanted in a coop! I will have to get some pictures. The ducks have a 4x6ft area inside and the chickens have a 10x10ft area inside (minus the 4x6 section for the ducks). The section for my feed storage and such is approx 3.5x10ft. The outside runs are going to be quite long.... not sure on true dimensions yet, but will get them done and measure

Well, need to get some stuff done around the house. Laundry is calling and so is the lawn.... never ends! Enjoy this weather!

Good morning! I have been reading for a while...my roof/chimney man came by and I had to talk with him for a while. Most unusual guy. He does roofing and building in the day and has a blues band on the weekends. Very talented. His name is Paul Filipowicz...any body ever hear of him? THere is a fly in this house and it keeps landing on my legs (when I'm not looking) Driving my wild!!!
That is crap about the parts Jim...ya wait ad wait and then they arent right anyhow! I hope you get it all worked out to your satisfaction.
Hey H&R...shy didnt you just keep the peacock you had last year? Silly woman! I hope you find your opposite without too much trouble. That is one bird that I dont care to have again. My males spent so much time showing off for the cars going by...eventually they always got too close--or the people were the type to swerve and hit stuff! When they started roosting in the maple tree outside the bedroom and making noise I cant say I was real sad to see them go....although it did bring a bunch of people out to see them strutting! I will check with my neighbor and see if his have any babies this year for you guys he!! bent to get some!
Yup, MLH was telling the truth! There are videos of hen racing! It is pretty funny. You can tell the ones that were actually taught what to do. I think it would be a blast to have a competition sometime. I cant figure out if they are really serious or if it is just a fun "tradition" that they started in the dead of winter. You know those British, cant ever tell with them!

Dornes--nice to hear from you again! I would so love to have a couple of steers...with the price of corn though I am wondering if it would be more advantageous to raise some or just continue to buy a half from my neighbor! Like I need something else to do...

Way funny Gaelio!

That is really something about your son Cind! Reminds me of my client's son...same thing, when she found out that he didnt have any more money she was gone! It was his house though so...too bad he has to come and live with you; that is going to be tough. At least it would be for me...I guess I need my space! Now you will have more eyes to watch out for Duke at least.

DrH--we have a lawn sweeper that pulls behind the lawn tractor. DH never uses it. I really wish he would...I am wondering if it would pick up dog poop? Now THAT would be a good lawn sweeper! Just noticed my old rat terrier is limping...must have caught his nail on something again...he was fine this morning.

Hey Jim--is poplar kind of the same as cottonwood? The leaves look similar to me. I have been trying to get one to grow here for ever! I pulled a few seedlings out on the island...I think I forgot to plant them though...guess I have to try again! I am also thinking about cutting down the mulberry tree hanging over the clothesline area. Half of it came down in a storm last winter so I have the feeling that it's hollow. It really would be nice to not have the berries falling on my laundry! Less purple poo wouldnt be a bad thing either.

Well I cant remember anything else I was going to comment on...MLH did you remember what you wanted to ask me? THis fly is sending me over the edge!!! OK--I am going to go out and hang another load, let the birdies out and go and look at that cute little shed. have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

Hi again--there has been some deaths of alpacas and a horse has been sickened with EEE in NW WI. Just something else to worry about! I tried to get the article on here but it is a PDF. I am not sure how to do it. If you what more info anyone, let me know and I can email it to you! Terri O
