Good Morning All! Did the read POOF thing again, seems to be getting worse
FT shame on you for eating the kids candy!
KNA glad to hear your party went well but just reading about it made me tired.
You've got a long ways to go to catch up on the names I've been called.
Jim to borrow a line I've heard many times from my childhood. How's it feel to want?
tiki those silkies are so funny! dk sounds like YOUR ready. You'll be watching out the window come Thurs morning like a kid at xmas. Bigz hope your appointment brings nothing but good news!
CC didn't think you were old enough to know of Dippity Do. Butch wax was around bout that time too. Have a bunch of running to do today, payday ya know.
good morning, were a lot of night owls last night.. today is supposed to be warm again..
we had our first baby 50 years ago on Nov.22..
Brill Cream, a llittle dab'LL do ya ? do they even sell hair cream anymore ? back then you had to grease your hair.. we even used lard and shortening in a pinch..
Ken, my thoughts f the cold north ?? Move SOUTH !!!
buckwheat will grow well in just about any soil.. If you plant some and then plow it under , it will enrich the soil and loosen it.
I planted half of my garden with it. when the seeds were ready I let the birds in to harvest it.. I was surprised , the ducks were especially fond of it.. when they got it all eaten, I plowed the plants under.. there was a noticeable difference in the lightness of the soil on the buckwheat end..
a lot of books recomend that you plow it under as a green "manure" before the seeds are set..
one thing I really liked about it,, it did not let any other plants grow,, including weeds.. mine got about 3 feet tall..
I just rototilled the garden and hand broadcast the seeds. try to get the seeds about 3 to 4 inches apart.. Not critical, though..
it takes a large patch of wheat, or buckwheat, to make much difference in the feed bill..
........jiminwisc........
It was a 14 year old girl this time calling names. I found it laughable, then again she was being rebellious. I wish I was called to the south now days, but the North has some amazing beaches.
I have water on the stove to heat up to wash tables and then I am outside again.
The Ladies got a pumpkin for Halloween.
I am incoherent... Not enough sleep...
My front Garden would look pretty with all that buck wheat sprouting up and then I may have a chance to choke out all the weeds that grew this year when the wife was at VBS and Camp.
Good and sunny, blue sky morning to ya~! So much to read....great description on the sites you saw Tiki! I also need to get some straw to insulation...I am a little afraid to put it around the house though...maybe MORE mice would come in? You would think with 10 cats.....I guess that's why they mostly stay in the walls and do NASCAR laps during the night! Occasionally the cats will get one! Got to get the weather striping done, porch plastic, window plastic and make sure the heat taes are working in the basement...shouldnt have too much trouble this year with the woodstove out of commission though--that is when we got the freezing pipes down there...cause the furnace wouldnt kick on!
Raiq--I have today and tomorrow off too and sure wish I was caught up on everything else so I could finish my canning! I actually picked a couple of tamatoes off the plants in the garden yesterday...perfectly good! I really do need to make the basil pesto before the leaves I picked off get too wilted and tastless!
My Wisdom Book is called The Encyclopedia of Country Living. All about plants and animals and also a chapter of Oddments--weird stuff like caring for your dead, delivering your own baby like that.I have a few books like it from when I was a member in an Organic Gardening book club.
My quail in the TV are going crazy!! Jumping up and banging their heads on the light...maybe time to move them downstairs to the brooder area? I am considering letting all of them loose in that room...I dont think they will fly up onto the larder shelves...alternatively I could put them in the unused bathroom downstairs (the one with the cracked toilet and the capped off shower)THen maybe I wouldnt get so ticked when the darned electric heater goes on...at least it will be warming something!
OK--I had tones more to say but I nee to get to the flylady bingo game so I can get some of my list done...I love to play it--get waaaay more done with friends to talk to than alone for sure! Later everyone...someday I WILL catch up...then I will die! Terri O
I hate it when they do that. Right about the time you want to go to sleep. I borrowed that book The Encyclopedia of Country Living from the library. Nice book. It is definitely one to get as a reference book.
I need to go to flylady to get my house in order~~~~~probably after I am done with the winterising projects.
KEN by next spring you will probably have a good compost pile to plow into your garden that will help with the clay.
Hopefully next year I will build a small hoop house to extend the season for some veggies. I was going to build it this year but time got away. They seem relatively cheap to make if you use cattle panels and some railroad ties. The intsructions are on BYC someplace for a chicken coop hoop house, and I am going to follow those plans.
This is a bit fancier than I plan on making mine. They have pvc hoops too but I think those would blow away. A 2 panel hoop house would be 8 feet long and I have seen them without the inner supports.
Geez you guys wear me out! Just came in for lunch and to read. I'm gonna have to check out that book sounds pretty interesting! Did the shopping this AM was gonna get BOSS until I saw $26 a bag, think the kids will just have to get along without it. That would buy a good chunk of dead cow!
Or a couple of big boxes O beer! Guess who wins? Us again! I LOVE my chickens but you've got have priorities! TO ya they probably won't fly up there
KNA I'm glad you have the patience and wisdon to deal with problem kids! I wish I still did! But I find that I have more than their parents do. But then again I don't live with them everyday. Your efforts don't go unappreciated. You too Jim! You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Brill cream. No that's not it! Bosco? L&M's? A Hudson? TB and polio shots man I miss those!
good afternoon, I took my new/used trailer a few miles down the road and picked up 20 bales of hay.. that was so easy.. One layer deep and I could still walk all the way around them on the trailer.. I wasn't sure how many I could pull with the 6 cylinder Blazer so I held it to one layer.. Next time I will try 2 layers..
The chickens and the other birds are all mad at me.. they think they are not fed.. I went to the feed mill and bought 500 pounds of ground oats and corn.. they are used to crumbles..
They seem to be picking the corn out and leaving the oats.. they did the same thing when I fed them whole oats.. In a couple of days they will be hungry enough to eat it all.. way back when, all I ever fed was oats and corn.. you should have seen the fat on those chickens..
DrH, how about the Atom Bomb drills in school ? everybody, hide under our desk and keep your eyes covered and say silent prayers.. Ya know what ? i think those nuns did that just for 5 minutes of peace and quiet.. yeah, everybody knows that a desk will negate any effects of an Atom Bomb..
I spose I should go out and throw a tarp over the hay.. sposed to rain tomorrow..
Sandi, is that guy in Mosinee named Rick ?
check real close for watery eyes etc.. and definately quaranteen those new birds..
I will trade you for my pied hen.. Annie thinks I am nuts for wanting to get rid of her. I think she likes her..
Applesauce done, pasta sauce done for the year! Woohoo! I am half done with the lasanga. Browning the venzun now, then just gotta boil the noodles, layer it all and FORGETABOUTIT. lol.
Youngest one is being reeeally whiney. His cheek is pink. I think hes teething. I put him in his crib to whine. Not much else I can do. I fed ya, wiped yer butt, played with you, burped ya. You're good!
Hubby is so excitied for lasanga that hes trying to get out of work early!
He got his meds now, so I we are both happy. Now i'm running our sheets on "sanitary" for my own sanity that it will kill any virus still on there. Let me think what I want!! lol.
