Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

OK, starting while I'm still working... I have grape juice heating up to canned and pulp cooking for roll ups.

Not going back to what I missed but cute pics! Tiki... do the girls like getting their hair done?

That is so cute!

Jim... too bad about those eggs! Hope you didn't pay too much for them... but with NO hatches I guess anything was too much.
hmm.png
Thanks for the reminder about draining gas! LOL..JIm, I just saw you post after the DrH's .... yep

KNA... Congrats on the "graduation"!
lau.gif
I tried planting goodies for the chickens... between them getting into the garden, the coons and the wild birds.... guess they just get the apple and grape scraps I froze for them.

FT...Hope you get the truck fixed so you can get those birds!

DrH.... Butch WAX!!!! Dang! My dad had a butch 'till the mid 70's! Finally my mom just refused to cut his hair 'till it grew out a little more up to date!
gig.gif
How about "Down the cheek and up the neck...." You guys should remember that one!
wink.png
Had to be the sexiest add on at the time! My Great Uncle did quite well with his Hudson dealership! Sold out just in time too!
roll.png
Who else remembers those infamous words "Duck and Cover!" http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1528313029232126903 I got sent to the principle's office over that one...
hmm.png
I told the class it wouldn't do any good because it was in the air we breath. I was just starting to learn it's not always good to be smart.

BigZ.... Glad to hear the 'ol eyes are OK... The eye chart with my left eye is just a blur too... figure at least I can see it's there!
wink.png
Have lots of trucker friends... thank the Gods they manage to get home safe too!

TO.... sounds like a cool book .... My folks were collecting the "Fox Fire" books however they have been "lost" (long story) I've been thinking about trying to get the collection myself! Just need $$$
hmm.png
Yep, 4 cats here and mouse turds in the kitchen! I swear I never lived in a mouse free house!

OK, I THINK I have the canning done! I may take those cr@py apples and make ACV. But that's it!

They came and put in the chair lift for #1son! No more holding the walker while he tries to get up and down the stairs (only 3) but scarey. Got the hand rails in the bathroom too, however the forgot the 2nd bathroom, guess we have to call them again.

I so wish you gentlemen were around to teach DH how to build a fire in the stove! He can get one going, but geez! I swear he uses 1/2 a newspaper, a pound of tender and kindling then pours a 1/2 c of lighter fluid on!
ep.gif
This to start 4 logs! I've tried "suggesting" better ways but I don't want to sound like I'm patronizing him.

hu.gif
Hummm, maybe a book and leave the page marked? As it is, I just try to have it built before he's up or home
roll.png
He's not good at "guy stuff" but love anyway... at least he tries!

Looks like time to light the fire and go to bed... DH goes to get his eyes checked today DS#3 is driving him.

Night All!

Good Damp Morning Everyone! Oh ya we did the drills. Those were some magical desks boy. Wanted to make the masses think they had a chance. Shoulda just taught us to just bend over and kiss it goodbye. I can remember when they changed the flags in the school to 50 stars. They were a few years late. Shoulda grabbed a couple with 48. Yup pledged alliegance every morning too. Our milk came in glass bottles with little cardboard seals. Used to save the seals to play with. I've got 3-4 Foxfire books on the shelf think their first additions. Bigz and SIS glad you arrived alive and the appointment went well!!! I did a stint running mostly east coast and there was always someone trying to kill me. I hate even going to Rapids anymore. Stupid people! troll glad to hear your getting some fresh meat. BFF and I checked his trail cam card. Everything from a nubber to a 10 pointer showing up. Some nice racks! I'll see if I can download the 10 ptr pic later. CC Ajax

I remember when Mt. Dew came out. Yahoo Mt. Dew it'll tickle your innards! Didn't get an egg yesterday either so hopefully today

Looks like an inside day

Tiki, it's official. That silkie mix is a rooster. He was crowing this morning. The way he slams his chest into my hand when I reach into the pen was a good early indicator though. It figures. He's so dang cute.

Misty Morning All... Thanks for all the kind words sent my way
hugs.gif
. Congrats on the fresh venzun Troll! I think the creator's intention was for it to be prepared on the grill...it can't be beat with the most expensive beef available...in my opinion. If the beef had it so good you would see the deer jumping the fence to join them in the bardyard

Anyone remember the Goiter pills we had to take in school? Tasted awful.

I think beets would do ok by you ken. My soil is red clay also. You could try the cylindrical type that I grow. They are available from www.sandhillpreservation.com.

Our local newspaper has a potion where they reprint stuff from the paper years ago....This week 80 years ago at the Big Falls feed mill....100lbs of layer mash $1.45 ahhh the good ol days.

Morning all! Cind I had to watch that old film in it's entirety! I guess I am just a little young (what a concept!!!) for that. We had "fallout shelters" by the time I was in school...I do remember going to them and doing the "duck and cover"Got interupted in the typing of my post.....the man that was supposed to come back on the weekend came today. He said that he was here on Saturday but we didnt come out. It is funny when you live in a sty with dogs like this place folks are afraid to come to the door...maybe it is the "protected by Smith and Wesson" sign I have at the drive? (just kidding!) So anyhow...I have 6 less roos to butcher now. I was a little sad that I sold the cochin LF crosses...but I kinda knew I wouldnt be able to "do them in" myself anyhow. She said she is coming back in a week or so to get more....do you think $5 is too cheap? I heard her say something about 6...I can understand a little Spanish...thinking that there is someone else that sells for that in the area.

So Jim--I am intrigued with your idea of using oats and corn. You feed that exclusively and no laying mash at all? Do your birds still lay on that mix with such a low protein? Or do you just feed that to "the other birds" that arent layers? My mill will mix for me and I am looking to cut costs....as we probably all are! I have to start thinking about saving some $$$ up for taxes and fuel oil!
ep.gif

I sure wish DH would turn in all the metal he has on the flatbed...then maybe I could use it to go and get some hay. That sounds like a much better way to get it than stacking 50 some bales on the back of the truck! Less lifting and if you cant get it into the barn right away just throw a tarp on it! He((, maybe I wouldnt have to elevate it up to the mow at all!!! Just feed it right off the flatbed.

I had so much to comment on and now after feeding and catching chickens I cant remember what I was going to say at all! Hmmm--oh yeah that hoop house idea..nice links! I wanted to build something like that for part of the garden too...we have an old trampoline and I think that if I used the half circles they would be really good for the arch part...another building project! The panels do look easier but they are pretty costly to put over a garden to support plastic! Although...I could stand to have a few new ones around the paddock then I could use the rusty ones...
I have a friend near hear that pastures her chickens in a hoop house like that. She has wheels under it and moves it when it needs moving. I should take a drive out there and see how her birds are doing....

Sheesh--almost 10:30 already and I started this post at 8! Guess I'd better get moving or nothing will get done here again....Later everyone! (did any body else hear the thunder this AM?) Terri O

Love your sign, TO! Mine says "No trespassing. Violaters will be shot. Survivors will be shot again".
gig.gif

I saw on here somewhere that someone used an old trampoline as a chicken run.
I heard thunder too, and it was pouring for a little while here too. Crummy day.

Well I guess it is a good day til I woke up to the dreaded phone call. Our trucks brakes are totally shot. While he had it apart to put the new lines on he said the back brakes are gone and the fronts have maybe two months left on them. He said he doesn't resurface rotors because of the government standards are set so low (or something like that) that by the time they resurface them there isn't much left. Does that make sense. I was so stunned by the news I can't remember poopy !!!
All said and done the total job will be $835 plus tax !!! I tried calling DH and couldn't get ahold of him so I made the decision. So the brakes will all be brand spanken new !!! I feel sorta good about that since we drive to Racine and plus I want it to stop when we are hauling hay every two weeks and especially when we haul the horses.

Poopy !!!! (btw Ken I think with you being on here my vocabulary might clean up a bit, or at least it is making me realize how bad it is !!!
roll.png
)

Now have to figure out were the money is coming from for all of the other bills that need paying. And rethink if I should get those peafowl !! Poopy !!

Plus we need tires on the truck before winter and that isn't that far away. And the horse trailer could use another tire or three (put one new on last year)

And the list goes on and on and on and on and on ...... Well you get the picture.

Jim still waiting to hear from you about that guy named Rick. Pm me or email me with the details or call me please. Inquiring minds want to know !!

Carol, which World of Variety do you go to? I've never heard of them and tried to do an internet search for them but can't come up with a website for them. Gleaned from other sources it looks like there may be one in Verona and/or Mt. Horeb? Could you tell us a little bit more about this store, please? What size bags of BOSS do you buy & how do their prices compare to F&F and or Mounds?

Thanks!
Elaine

There is a World of Variety on main Street in verona. never noticed a deal on BOSS, but willing to keep my eyes open when we go that way.

Does anyone know if there is any nutritional value in gourds? I am roasting pumpkins today for the girls and thought I would check. Just passed a farmer with a field full up pumpkins left. He normally asks high prices for his goods, but wonder if he would sell cheap after the season? Get some more for the girls. Cheap good veggies are always great for them.
Carol- might have to snag you for some more of those fertile eggs... I think I am going to have to move my broody inside in the dog cage. One of the other hens barged in to use the favored nest box and she got our but two of three fertile eggswas pushed out for a few hours so might have chilled it too much.

otherwise we are trying to do some coloring projects around here and maybe movie day- mom is tired from all this cleaning and the 2 five year olds are wearing me out today. Need to repot some houseplants later today too.

that is how exciting my life is. Think it is a nice pork chop and mashed tater dinner tonight. Salad and we are set!

Hey Kris--pork chops here tonight too! (anyone else?) I am on a 15 min break fro flylady bingo so I dont have a bunch of time but wanted to take a real break and not just keep working. Too bad about the brakes Sandi! DH always replaces rotors too if they are warped or grooved. There really isnt too much there to grind at all! At least you can turn the core part in for a little tiny bit of $$!~ Your DH doesnt do mechanics stuff I guess....it is soooo costly to have somebody do it at a shop. But at least you have the guarantee that it will work (probably) when you take it home!

OH OH 3pm time to get back at bingo! Later! T
