Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning All!
Glad that everyone had nice Christmas activities with family and friends! It's also nice to be revisited by those of you just checking in!

Today DH and I are going up to Mad City (oh joy!) to go see the War Horse movie. I can't believe that it is not playing in Janesville! must not have any horse lovers down here!!
lol.png

So with that, I've gotta jet and get ready to go.

TO you have a christmas village too ????? I have so many that I don'have room, then one year I kept it up so long it was nearly Chrismas in July !!!!
hide.gif
Haven't put it up since. The last few years I've just been buying barns, blacksmith and country type pieces. I collect the Lemax brand that Menards, Michaels and Fleet Farm carry. However I saw a barn at I think it was JoAnns that I might have to go get. Was $11.99 on sale.

I was buying my nieces a piece each Christmas but my one Nieces DH said that was enough, they had no room but I don't listen to him anyway, He is one of those kind of people, don't really know what I mean by that, lets just say he is not like me in the collecting department !!!!
gig.gif

I didn't give them a piece this year either. I have some extra's that I bought last year after Christmas to give them this Christmas and I never went thru them. And I don't remember who got what last year
hide.gif
The niece that lives in River Falls is renting a house that is to small and the other one just has Addie the 1 yr old so the pieces will wait.

I keep buying the horses, carraiges etc. Think just farm scenes and wildlife themes will be my thing from now on. They are like beanie babies, they keep coming out with more and you can't possibly get then all.

Suzie, I to am so sorry for all of you losses. That is terrible. I hope and pray everyone is doing better. This time of year is especially hard as we think of our loved ones that are no longer with us.

So, I'm having cookies and coffee, can't go on that diet until the cookies are gone !!! And wouldn't want to put them in the landfil !!!!
gig.gif

Glad to hear everyone had a nice Christmas !!!

I'd like to have a spy cam set up at Jims to see how he trains that dog !!!! With all the hollering and clapping he does with the chickens this ought to be interesting !!!
gig.gif
And for some good story telling !! Hey Jim

Peaceful Happy Day everyone!

Sounds like everyone had a good holiday and it is nice to hear from the people that havent been here in a while, along with the ones that have.

Suzie I am sorry to hear about your losses.

I also hope that everyone is doing better.

I think people like the shared experience.

:I hope the parakeet gets into the cage.

The dog sounds nice. That is fascinating how you can just direct the geese to get to bed. Jim the bird whisperer. Do you have luck with mice? Mine is misbehaving. I called my isp and asked the tech about it. He told me he didnt do mouse support over the phone. Somehow that hit me as very funny and I coulndt stop snickering about it.

Fun to have eggs that you wont know what they are till they hatch. Christmas all over again.

I slept with the bedroom window open last night and feel much better. I dont know how that will work when the *cold* weather comes. Maybe I just wont open it as far.

I think The War Horse would be a very good movie to see. I used to love horses until one kicked me and put me into a coma. Now I love horses from a far.

Have a good day.
Cheers!

Glad to hear everyone seemed to have a good Xmas. I got a new food saver, which I'm stoked for as we had the oldest model and got it used off Craigslist. Also got a kohls gift card. So excited. So many things I need, but I'll probably tuck it away until we get the new house and go from there. No point in buying stuff for this house. Dh got me a down comforter and a garbage can
lau.gif

Ds3 got a bunch of toys, ds.8 got a ton of clothes which is great! What he needed.

I made prime rib, scalloped potatoes and a couscous dish. Also spinach and artichoke dip. Yuuuum!

Well gotta go get ready for work!!!

Mmmmm, I had pumpkin pie for breakfast. Yummy! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. For X-mas eve, we went to MILs for DHs side of the family. She was looking great & feeling good too despite having a round of chemo the week before. One more to go after New Years and then hopefully she will be done with that.
fl.gif
For X-mas day, we had my side of the family over, and as usual had way too much food for only 9 people. I sent everyone home with doggie bags, but my frig is still packed. Doesn't even look like we made a dent. And the chickens will be eating good for the next week too. At least.

It was great spending time with family: too bad the time goes so fast. All that preparation and work, then *poof*, it's over. The Packers game was awesome. Too bad they couldn't have done that last week. And Tat, I repeat DrH's sentiment on your Packer comment....

As far as the "the rest of the story" goes about the dogs & coyotes, Jim, I do believe the dogs were strictly pets and not trained for dealing with predators. Our one neighbor behind us has 2 little yappers that he lets out all the time, and more than once they smelled coyotes & ran right for them. One time we saw what was happening & called to warn him, but another time, one of his dogs was attacked pretty badly, but he survived. I guess it just depends on how they are trained & what they are trained for. Too many people move out to the country & don't have a clue, then find out the hard way what can happen. Live & learn, I guess.
hu.gif
By the way you have your birds trained, I'm guessing your dog will become a very good watchdog.

MLH, great story about Cisco. That was one smart burro with good instincts.

Yikes, Ghost, I sure hope it wasn't a brown recluse bite. Scary. Take care of yourself!
Good links, BL4. Thanks for sharing.

Bummer news on your truck, BBP. Sorry to hear that. No good deed goes unpunished, hey? I sure hope it isn't anything major that broke.

So sorry to hear about your family losses, Susie.

TO, I hope your friend can catch that parakeet too. That is so sad. Maybe it freaked at all the company? But why anyone would let it out of it's cage with people coming in & out is beyond me.

And my computer got a virus a couple months back, even though I try to be pretty careful about what I click on & which sites I visit. I have never gotten one before until I found BYC. But a computer can get bogged down with "cookies" from different websites too.

Oh, I ordered 4 saddles from that gal you all were telling me about on here. I got them on X-mas eve. Talk about fast! And she was having a holiday sale, so I got them for $2.75 instead of $3.25. Score! They look very nice and well made, so thank you everyone for the links and recommendations. The girls got that X-mas present just in time.
wink.png
And they got some mealworm suet cakes from gramma too. Not to mention their feast of holiday leftovers. They must be happy chickens, because the 4 pullets have been giving us 4 eggs a day this entire week.
ya.gif

And Jasmine, the bunny, has been doing fantastic!
wee.gif
For the past few days, she's been hopping around normally, with no signs of lameness of any kind.
bow.gif
I thought she'd never get any improvement back in her legs. Even mom was shocked. She was here the day I brought her in so she knew how bad she looked. Your well wishes sure helped, everyone! Thank you all!
hugs.gif
I just hope she doesn't have a relapse, but so far, so good. I think being in the small cage which limits her mobility has helped her to heal, or at least has helped reduce the irritation or whatever caused the problem in the first place.
I hope everyone has a great day! I burned half the morning catching up here. Yikes!

well, I met my new dog this morning.. I brought her into the house for a bit.. for a 'stand-offish" dog she sure likes attention.

Later I put her on the leash and led her around the perimeter of where I want her to patrol.. quite a few more trips should do it.. I can see that she was never worked with..

The geese and guineas went bonkers when I led her into the yard from the back side..

I put her into the lean-to with a whole bale of hay for a bed.. I have her tied in there in case she decides to eat through the wire to get out..

Cind, I sent you a PM..

the snow is actually melting today.. 40F .. crazy.. I hope it stays like this for awhile and then warms up..

the lakes around here have about 8 inches of ice..
I should get a llicense and do some pan fish jigging..

.........jiminwisc.......

So Cind, that entire ham fit in your oven? Wow, that's impressive! I guess I know what you'll be eating for the next month.
lau.gif
It sure stinks when you can't do the things you're used to doing, hey? For the past few years, to cut down on the wrapping, the paper, the tape & the hassle, I started boxing each persons gifts into one big box. So each person got one present with multiple gifts inside. Much easier & way less time consuming. I know kids do love to rip all their presents open, though, and the more, the better, but at least I am down to just one niece that I do that for (wrapping indivdual gifts). Everyone else just gets their one big box, or bag, each.

So Jim, where are the pics of your new addition? I know FT will post them for ya, so no excuses.

Back from work...not too bad today. My people were in pretty good spirits. THe best thing was that DD25 cleaned up some of the kitchen counters and DH made chili for supper so I dont have to cook tonight! I am glad...my stomach is growling!
I still have to go out and do chores...my one client gave me all the food in her fridge--cause it was "bad" I think she does it just so we can go to the grocery and buy new stuff...that will be bad next week cause she only eats the crap and lets the real food go to waste. EVERY WEEK! I cant get her to stop buying. She always says, "I didnt feel like eating that this week." Or I dont like that. ( well then, why did you buy it?) I have gotten to the point that I tell her she doesnt like it when she wants to get it! She always wants ham and we throw it away every week...that and roast beef. At $7.99/lb it just hurts me to let her buy it! At least my chickens eat well!

Guess the chili is done...have a great night everyone! I will pass on the hint about the piece of millet BL4. Ya know I thought of that when she came to get the cage today....should have given her one. I am going to call her now and see if she had any luck. Terri O

Day After To All.... Nice to see some folks stop by during this busy season. Good to hear that everyone had a great Chritmas.

Sorry to hear about the losses Susie, nothing but the Best Wishes sent your way. We all miss you too!

It's great that you decided to join us being a Packer fan FT. With all the arm chair quarterbacks on the cheeseheads thread you'll have some great teachers (coaches)

Same to you tatty boy
tongue2.gif

Wow at that price for inferior beef Terri, my Venzun roasts are worth $10.99 per lb!

Good idea on the wrapping CC...that's a great idea. Plus everyone can keep their pile of presents in their own box.

I saw a video from a trail cam where a bunch of yotes killed an adult doe. It was a terrible way for the doe. They were relentless to say the least. They just kept taking turns working on the wound they started. One would get her attention and anorher would attack from the blind side. Sad for sure.

Cut some popple that was tipped over from the heavy snow earlier. My small saw was giving me grief today. Thinkin maybe the screen for the spark arrestor might be the culprit. No power when you attemped to make a cut. When I checked the manual for adjusting the carb it said....take to a service center for proper adjustment...

what the heck?

Be Safe....bigz

This is for TO.. and any other horse people out there.. found this on Midwest Telnet, on the BB system.. (bulletin board) yes some sites still have them.. LOL
"Jefferson Cty 4-H Tack Swap, January 22nd @ 9 AM"

If you're at all like me and now that Christmas is (almost) done, you can't wait for warmer, horse riding weather.

Well, less than a month 'til the Jefferson County 4-H Tack Swap/Sale is the next step to spring

*****the hours are from 9AM - 2PM*****

If having a parakeet nearby would help.. you could borrow one of mine. I may also have a cage.. and will take the wee little yellow bird when she does catch it...

Keep us informed.

Coyotes are animals that need to hunt... there was something likely wrong with the doe or they wouldn't have been able to get her.. not sure but its likely.
