We are looking for either chicks or fertile eggs for some Marans or welsummer or any other chocolate egg layer. We would like to add some to our flock so they might start laying by spring. Let me know if you can help us out.

Since we are already talking chicks and birds we want...

Come February 4th I am driving through WI on my way to Green Lake, WI near Ripon. Coming from St. Paul on 94 turning off in Mauston to get to Green Lake. I am wondering if anyone is going to be along my path that has Welsummers, Marans, Javas or Brahmas. I am looking for pullets or straight run chicks...

I don't care about color, but would love something that is blue/gray, if you are hatching and want to add in some for me I would pay for a straight run of chicks.

Or does anybody know who I could contact about birds?

I only have one buff orp roo right now and one aussie roo but my neighbor has two Aussie Roo's that they got by mistake from Ideal. I can let you know if they would want to rehome one. Otherwise I know they will be eating them

And yes the smilelys are a pain in the butt !

Here is one guy. He sells alot of chicks. I bought one of my peahens from him. (Not the one that died) btw. I don't think he has them vaccinated for mareks or cocci but you can ask, he can order them with it perhaps. He gets them I think from Ideal or Cackle Hatchery. His name is Paul. Tell him Sandi from Crandon sent you !!

As far as having friendly breeds, I think any breed has the potential of being friendly if you have the time & patience to spend socializing them. Children are usually good at doing that if they like animals.

You must have never had malay or cornish. I hatched an assortment from a well known breeder a few years back. The usual breeds from him were fine but these two breeds were down right mean fought everything in the coop. Shipped them off to the farm at 5 months, would have not wanted to deal with them when they completely grew up.

Btw, my lavender hen from Tomski is doing good but at this rate will not have chicks for a while. She hasn't laid an egg yet. Maybe when I give her The Man !!!

good evening all! I had a great time in Madison with my BFF! We went to Archiver's, Michael's, World Market and Marshall's at Greenway Crossing Mall. Man that place has really grown! Then she was meeting her family at Longhorn's for birthday dinner...and I went along! Our b-days are right next to each other (but she is a year older!) so we both celebrated! I havent been shopping with her for ages! She travels for work now so I dont get to see her much. We had definitely been missing it! I got a new dress coat...now the OM will HAVE to take me someplace fancy! LOL! I thought FT wanted a recipe for pumpkin cheesecake so I bought a calendar from Susan Branch (one of my faves) with a recipe in it...now I realized it was PEANUT BUTTER she was looking for...I am sure I have one somewhere!

Congrats again on the little chicks to be DrH! About time Samborena gets a playmate! Somebody asked if H&R sold chicks...yes she does. Welsummer, brown leghorn, cuckoo marans and wheaton Ameracauna I know she has for sure (she has others but I am not sure if she is breeding them)--but dont know if she is selling any eggs. The good thing about getting her birds is that they are always clean and they are very gentle from her kids holding them all the time! THey hatch them for 4H and sell the extras once they decide for 4H. BF4Me--if you want hatching eggs or st run chicks I can certainly help you in that direction. I am 20 mi East of Madison. The eggs DrH is hatching now were mine. (I am almost as excited as he is!!!)

So I just realized how late it is...I have to lock up my birds yet...CC I agree with you; according to Dr James (wild animal vet) opposums do not kill things. THey are "opportunistiic feeders" which means if they come across a dead chicken they are more than happy to eat it! If you see one eating a chicken it probably was too dumb to run (like the killer) when it heard your approach! RAIM--I bet that was a coon that killed your birds...although the owl does a similar job on my guineas...not sure what eats the body that well after the owl takes the head...for all I know it was the fat beagle that got out there before me!

I picked up hay from my neighbor and got another roo from him! AACK! It has cuckoo feathering (my weakness), lightly feathered legs and an Ameracauna type comb! When I first told him I wanted him I thought it was a rosecomb--that would make the bird a Dom! But when I got him home I saw that it was definitely the wrong comb for a Dom...oh well, what's another striped roo?
