Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey all. I feel like utter garbage today coupled with a headache from he!! so I'll try to keep it short & sweet so I can get to bed.
Cind, you & your DH sound like my mom & dad. Dad's mechanical skills were limited to things less complicated than screwing in a light bulb.

He was a great dad, though.

Glad your hatching is going well, DrH. Hope you get a few more.

FT, are your silkies in your basement? How did they get mites, do you think? Did you bring some in from outside?

Ang, glad you found a good home for your roo & hope the other one is better soon. And I agree that anyone who cares about their birds would not be offended about putting bags on over their shoes. That is just common sense & a safe practice. Ditto on the DE sentiment.

Oh, Terri, I am so sorry!

Bf4, I bought this candler & think it works great. I've never candled an egg before, but I just did Alice's a few hours ago & it couldn't have been easier. The first eggs should be due to hatch on the 20th. Out of 11 eggs, 3 were clears so we got rid of those. I was trying to move kinda quick so I didn't look very good until I got to the last 2 eggs, but I definitely saw movement in both of those.

I hope things continue to go ok.

Nice setup & pics, Raim!

I feel the same about Driver, Bigz. He may not get as many passes as he used to, but he's usually pretty reliable to make the play. I just hate when he gets hit hard, though. He's no spring chicken anymore. He sure seems to have a wonderful personality.

Well, gotta get some sleep. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Sweet dreams, all, and get to bed, FT!

Wonder what the difference is between the incubright and the cool lite. I have the cool light and I'll tell ya it isn't cool. If you keep it on the egg to really look close it gets very hot !!!

When did the Packers win the Super Bowl years ago. Was it DD that did that Happy Dance when he made a touch down during that Super Bowl ? That is one game that I watched in it's entirety although I really didn't remember what was going on I do remember that little happy dance !!!

I have to say I am disappointed that they lost too. I was looking forward to watching them during the Superbowl. Guess I'll still watch, gotta have a good reason for Super Bowl snacks !!!

Raim, the Disease, actually a virus I was referring to earlier is called CAE. If your Does test positive for it you will need to bottle feed your babies so they don't get it. You can send in a blood sample and get your herd tested for $4 each.
From what I read 75-80% of all goats are positive. People think because their goats look and act healthy they don't have it.
Here is a good link. If I was going to breed I would test but I only have altered boys and don't plan on selling or adding to my herd. http://goatwisdom.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=diseases&action=display&thread=4676 Good reading.
TO have you ever been to this site?
CC I'm going to try to get to sleep earlier. I have to get up early and be ready to have the oil changed on the truck at 1:30pm !!

As far as the Northern Fowl Mites, I had bought some adult silkies that had them and I treated them. Every now and then they just reappear. They are very common on the silkies. The mites like their fluffy crests and fluffy butts. I've never had them on my outside chickens. I know wild birds can bring them in so it's possible that they come in on our shoes, speaking of shoes, just goes to show you how you can bring things in. Mites are more common in Dry winter. I suppose too that if you kill 99% of them eventually they will multiply to a noticeable level.
Just like with chemo, it only kills 70% of the cancer, your immune systems is responsible for the other 30%. If your immune system fails, the chemo can't keep up.
Oh, I have to tell you all that my showgirl rooster that is now my house chicken is my best friend. Right up there with Butt Dog.
This morning when I went to bed at 7:30am I didn't put him in his little pen. At about 10AM I was woke up to this loud Crowing. Sounded like it was real close. Well I opened my eyes and it was close !!! Sunny was standing on my chest and looking at me !!!
love.gif
It was adorable !!!! Good thing he had his diaper on hey ???
gig.gif
I'm normally up by 10AM so he was my alarm. I love him so much. I apologized to him today for almost giving him away !!!

OK gonna send and try to get to bed earlier !!
Good Night All !

Hope you're feeling better in the Morning CC

Hi all!

TO... so sorry about the goaties.
hugs.gif
I think I said congrats about "lambs" before... I was thinking about a friend that lost 2 lambs and a ewe last year so lambs were on my mind. Then you mentioned you lost the kids... weird.

Congrats on the hatching! DrH!

Not a good night to think, so sorry I missed a bunch of stuff. Good news is I got SOME of the birds out today....bad news, I have a guinea on the roof of the coop.

Well, a couple of things to do, then bed... Night all!

Good Morning All! FT we're even I kept questioning your showgirl and didn't get an answer but I found that it is a breed all by myself.

As far as the mystery egg in all honesty I've forgotten which it was. TO? Oh all of you new bators

We're here for ya! This only my third time but by far the best hatch I've ever had. There's 16 in the TV and the one that's zipped I peeled some shell off and moistened the membrane a bit an hour ago. Just hoping now that it hasn't been in there too long! It sure is twisted up in there. Tossed the 3 pipped and there are several more eggs in there, will give them until tonight to make a showing but think their done. I'll get pics and a count tonight. I just use a strong flashlight and circle the egg with my thumb and index finger, works pretty good. Good Job on the wood makin Bigz! So much more but I'm lost again. TO just use the ABC spell checker. My back and neck told me last night that the bator needs to be put away.

Oh ya a few of us now are on a secret chicken site. SHHHH!

guess my goaties are fat?
barnie.gif
I will go read some more. They get all the hay they can eat. and goat chow from the feed mill. I will weigh them and get a better handle on how much they are to be eating. TO, do you leash your goats for feeding time? do you feed 2x a day? they always seem to be hungry, well that's not so true now that they are in their own place. guess the dogs were eating their food
roll.png
I will cut back now. anywho Hazel is nubianX (I can't find my paper) and Arrow is pigmy both are girls. they seem to young to be having young?! lol
I thought your supposed to keep the boys away from the girls? TO you keep them together? all the time?

BL4 I'm unclear? are these 2 ducks from the same mama? just wondering.
I think that's it.

Forgot to say hope you feel a LOT better when you wake up today CC!!! I kept the lard from the pig and just cut some off and added cracked corn to it. Energy food. NasT wind out there and now it's snowing. The temp is dropping too. Looks like winter for a few days. Gotta go peruse chick pics on da web.

Good Morning!

DrHa - What are you gonna do with yourself after this hatch is complete? I hope you don't go into Postbator Depression!

It sure is weird with just this little bit of snow on the ground. Almost doesn't seem like winter. At least the temps have been relatively mild thus far. I get nervous about not having enough snow to insulate my drywell run (takes kitchen sink, washer, laundry sink and sump waste water). Although I'm not sure, I think it's only a couple of feet below ground. I guess if the weather starts to get REAL cold for an extended period of time, I can cover the run with bales of straw...

Weatherman said we could get another couple of inches today... Don't look like that's happening.

I think I may fire up the wood stove in the garage and "Putz" today.

Have a great day & stay warm....

Thanks for the laugh this morning! I sure am glad I am home alone...the fam already thinks I am nuts when I burst out laughing while reading this thread!

We have white-out conditiions ATM here Tomski! Looks like I will not be going to pick up the ton of feed from MLH's DH today...perhaps tomorrow. I am not real crazy about driving that big truck...even less with a ton of feed int he back on ice roads where you cannot see!

I have much to comment on but will open another tab so I can remember it all--whiththis drop in pressure I am going out right now to check on the expectant Moms. Cind you are not crazy, the first born WAS a lamb the second a kid! Later! Terri O

Laugh now Bf4 your turns acommin!

Doesn't look like that zipped one is gonna make it

This is what I just got we'll see if they show up. A pretty good representation. FT I found a special one after getting it into natural light. Being color blind CAN be a pain sometimes! Can't figure how to post them all at once.
