!!!! You know it's always a possibility but never want it to happen. Took the 2 newest chicks out of the shoe box I put the newbies in till their strong enough to be in the brooder with the WILD ones! And the runt is doing a lot better maybe it's getting more air. My god those chicks are so dang cute! Been thinking of some sort of rack to put the hatching eggs on after the turner comes out to help keep them from becoming disoriented by the the newly hatched. Have to look at the BREEDS section but think I have a few Buckeyes in there.

I took the new chick out and it looks like there might 2 more clears in there but I left them. Found that I have 3 pipped and think they are goners. Still have several eggs with chicks in them there though
fl.gif
Thanks for all the well wishes on the hatch and putting up with my mentalness! The one that's zipped is still coming along but will go in and help if it isn't out by this aft. I swore to keep my mitts off this hatch. Angie I'll wait till their all done and post some more pics. Hope your roo is OK and you rehome that one! Tomski it's always a trade off. Ups and downs. Right now I'm on a huge up! I dumped some scraps in a clear spot outside the coop and the kids are forced to come outside for treats.

The chicks are doing what they do best eatin, drinkin, poopin, and sleepin. Life is good!

Good Morning (to me and Cind)

That did it Doc !!! I'm going to PM TO and find out what that mystery egg is seeing as you won't share with us !!

TO that is so so sad. It's hard enough losing an adult animal but losing a baby is even tougher sometimes.
hugs.gif

Do sheep have anything like goats have (and I can't think of it off hand) that is hereditary. Which I think is the reason they bottle feed the baby goats so if the mother is a carrier of it the baby doesn't get it. I may not have that right but when I got my goats I did a lot of reading and ran across it allot. I have just male wethers so it didn't affect me. I met a woman who breeds goats and she was losing allot of baby goats and I was wondering if that was why, she had never heard of it.
What kind of sheep and goats do you have BTW? Are they just pets or do you raise them for meat or milk goats? I love my goats.

The boys !!! My 89 yr old Aunt always asks if I milk the goats !!!
gig.gif
Aah I don't think so Auntie !!!

Angie, so glad you found Hansel a new home !!! He will be one happy Camper for sure !!

With 9 hens she almost could have taken two !!
As far as covering your shoes I don't think that is asking to much but allot of people don't take their chickens seriously and may be offended, Oh well, then they can shop elsewhere.
Since I don't sell my birds (which I should) I haven't had that problem but I really am trying to keep my place as "chicken germ" free as I can.
My silkies are strictly off limits for visitors. Outside is a bit different.
There is a guy in the area that won't let you in his coops. Very understandable for those of us that know how devastating it can be when your flock comes down with something. Better safe then sorry. And better hurt feelings then having to cull your flock !!

Anyway, Yep TO I am a night Owl. Since I've been with OM for 9 years now I'm completely off kilter !!! I used to start projects at Midnight. Now I feel I should be with him (although he can't see me with his eyes closed at midnight) so I am really all balled up !!!
I used to ask my Mom if she wanted to go shopping at 7pm. She'd say no allot of the times because her day was almost over, and she would say she wishes I was a Day time person like she was. That is a big regret I have. I could have spent allot more time with her even though I saw her allot and spent allot of time with her being on her schedule would have been nice.
My Dad was a night Owl. Lot of times I would come home from the store (Down in Racine) at Midnight and stop in and visit with my Dad late at night. (I lived across the street so instead of going home I would just "drop in")
Mom always had to wake me up for school, unlike my sister who would wake up herself !! Don't know why but the internal clock is broken !!!
But look at it this way, the world needs night people too. If you had to make a trip to the ER in the middle of the night and the nurse and doctor were only working those hours because they had to not because they were "night owls" wouldn't you prefer a "night owl'? working on you ?
But yes, I feel like I live in a different world sometimes and miss out on the action !!! But Hey, I'm on a different channel anyway, There Doc, I beat you to it !!!

Question for you, at what age should a goatie be before one thinks about breeding her? um and what does one do with a baby goatie besides become attached to it and love it to death? do you sell them? :D I'm gonna go take some more pics of my goaties and their new houseing. be back soon

Ok... I have a newbie confession. Since I can't see jack squat on my EE or my BCM eggs I ordered a Ovaview High Intesity Candeler. I know I am probably an idiot

And the only person on here to get one. But ARE there any peeps out there that have one, if so how well does it work?

Sounds expensive !! Once you've candled eggs and it gets closer to lockdown you will be able to see the increased air cell in the dark colored eggs. It works best to candle in a dark room as well. Sorry, no experience in that candler. I just have the cheapo $10 one.
When is your hatch due? Reminds me, tomorrow I can candle my (expensive) paint silkie eggs !!!

Hi FT... My very first attempt at a hatch is due 1/28. I spent $40 on the Ova-view. Not horrible but still. I feel so dumb not being able to see anything. And I want to be hopeful to have chicks at the end of the month. But I am fairly certain of 3 clears, and one with mysterious floating material in it. I see veining on only one, and the rest I only see big dark blobs. I can't see an embryo in anything because of the eggs color.I know I should have just gotten chicks, but I thought the kids would like to see the whole hatching process. Oh well, at least my Cheeseheads will console me if the hatch turns out wretched, and CROW with me if there are any successes!

$40 isn't that bad. I've seen them priced alot higher. The mysterious floating material could be a detached air sac. They can still hatch with a floating air sac. It could also be the start of an embryo that quit.
I would keep them all in the bator, you just never can tell. There have been many people that thought that their eggs were quiters and after cracking the egg they found a living chick inside.
Yep, we will be there for you no matter what the outcome is. Those were shipped eggs right?
What kind of incubator are you using ? If these don't turn out I'm sure you can find someone close to get eggs from.
